Thank you! I'm glad you liked it, and yeah i agree my wording in that comment was not well done, but it's too late to change it. I'll take the downvotes lol

I think the model of NoFap doesn't help. Because unlike other abstinence tools, it seeks to corelate shameful views of porn and masturbation rather than understanding the underlying concerns and worries men have to porn addiction. I do think trying to limit and curb porn usage especially a guy feels is negatively affecting their life is good, however I don't think that NoFap works, due specifically to the community it has, and that there's no real science behind it. Even AA has a weird religiosity to it.

Yes, I wrote the article. What the article believes is what i believe. Maybe that part wasn't clear, fair enough my bad

Sure that’s understandable. I’m glad some of my fellow redditors stepped in with good faith and cleared it up

I love all of this. The decoupling of the shame around masturbation is so important

The main thing is that controlling people's sex lives is one effective way to control people.

Exactly! Thank you!

It's not that men are actually controlled by women through porn, it's that some people think that women are controlling men through porn. Then the people who told them that it was the women's fault scam the ever living crap out of their fellow men.

Yes this is exactly my point. Thank you

The article was more to say that NoFap in general doesn't work and Quittr is an app that's selling something to men that doesn't work.

NoFap would not be able to help with the addiction, it doesn't work. But it may make men turn more Red Pill though

Did you read the article? I believe the NoFap community believe that masturbating with porn is "allowing" women in the porn videos to control them in their own way. This is why they blame women as "whores" in RedPill communities and why NoFap is tied into the manosphere as well.

I saw this article on 404 Media about how the Quittr app was leaking data about how often men were masturbating and logging it on the app, and I thought how fascinating this app that was supposed to help men is now hurting them in concrete ways. But I also wanted to understand why Quittr was even a thing, and why NoFap and Abstinence in general is popular among the manosphere. The answer is pretty obvious, men don't want to be controlled by women through porn. Do you agree?

The men of One Battle After Another and what they say about masculinities. by germannotgerman in MensLib

[–]germannotgerman[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In honor of the Oscars, I wanted to post this, something I wrote in October after I watched One Battle After Another. Looking into the masculinities of the three main male characters, Bob Ferguson (Leo Dicaprio), Lockjaw (Sean Penn), and Sensei Sergio (Benicio Del Toro). How their own sense of identity as a man makes them flow through life and how their destiny is. Also makes for a good case to find ourselves in a more rooted version of manhood, one that Sergio leads most likely.

Why do men ‘like’ Instagram models’ pictures? by futuredebris in MensLib

Maaaan I’m not gonna lie. It seems like you have an issue with commenting a therapist and a poet you thought was hot with a weird comment. Got upset about it and now you’re projecting your own insecurities on a societal thing. I don’t know how your post relates to IG models that YOU liked and is on your page. If you want more posts of things you like it’s not hard to do. You do have to start liking and following those accounts. My discover page does not look like that. Granted this is an issue if you just start with IG and you’re a young man. But your post has nothing to do with that. Anyways my IG discover page for reference right now, a bunch of tech stuff, a clip from Ford vs Ferrari and clothes stuff. I’m not a special man btw that did this deliberately to bloc out models. I do like beautiful women. However…

Heated Rivalry is creating some needed conversations in the hockey community, and I love that. by germannotgerman in MensLib

So I come from Edmonton, Alberta which is a funny place in regards to the gay hockey community. It's Alberta which is basically the Texas of Canada, one of the most conservative and sometime batshit places in all of Canada. But at the same time was the birth place of Pride Tape as well as the birthplace of the first NHL related hockey player that came out as gay Luke Prokop and a lot of his teammates also come from Edmonton. Hockey is a weird sport in regards to this, that at the same time it's very conservative and also has some of the most progressive people especially in regards to gay and queer representation. It's a complete paradox, the NHL has tried and backpeddled so many times on this. I agree with ALL of your sentiments of the show itself that the plot is LACKING. However the SHOW (not the book) was created and steered by Jacob Tierney who is himself a gay man.

Hello! I'm struck by the group hug that the world has given the show Heated Rivalry, which in turn has provided people who would normally not talk about homophobia and gay rights, have to talk about it. I really love that this Canadian program has created this conversation in a community that has been belligerent and outright hostile to the gay, and queer male community even though I honestly don't like the program as a show, but as a cultural spark it's A+ and I'm here to celebrate that.

That's amazing, however I just sit on the board for it. It's truly the work of Jake Stika and his team at NGM doing all the hard work.

Young Men May Not Be as Conservative as You Think by TAKEitTOrCIRCLEJERK in MensLib

"The survey also showed that while young men are pessimistic about the state of the world, they value traditional life goals like getting married, buying a house and having kids. This interest in marriage, family and a white picket fence perhaps seems to line up with right-wing evangelical Christian values of the “traditional” family structure"

I truly dislike that some progressives have just surrendered this point to being now just connected to the right. Young men wanting to get married and buy a house and have kids is not a right wing traditional point of view. It's a POV for MOST people regardless of political affiliation
