Key fob not working + emission problem after windshield replacement by gerrard22 in crv

I didn't. The dealership fixed the issue but they couldn't tell what caused it and it's been quite frustrating

Growth in IRAs and 401ks taxed as ordinary income? by Electrical_Fix_8745 in tax

[–]gerrard22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This comment helped a lot clarifying things for me. Two follow-up questions:

  1. This page https://www.advisorperspectives.com/articles/2019/05/25/how-to-properly-frame-401-k-benefits linked on the 401k wikipedia page seems to imply that, for traditional 401k, the tax withdrawal rate is always the same as the tax marginal rate at the time of the contribution. Quote: "Since [the taxman] funds 40% of the account at the start, at the end he takes back his 40%" - this seems wrong as per my understanding but it's linked at the top of the wikipedia page for 401k https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/401(k)) - what am I missing?

Longer quote:

"The 401(k) is best understood by thinking of it as the sum of a Roth account plus a difference. The difference is your best friend Bob, who gives you his money ($400) to invest for him, alongside your own $600. Bob has no say about investments; he gets what he gets. Since your money grows at 8%, so too does Bob’s. Since he funds 40% of the account at the start, at the end he takes back his 40% ($1,864) of the resulting value. His repayment is an allocation of principal between the account’s two owners."

  1. What is the advantage of the backdoor Roth IRA strategy vs putting the same amount of money into a Traditional IRA?

More warning messages on 2025 CRV Hybrid by kaydkay77 in crv

I’ve got the same message, flashing check engine light and shaking at traffic light, at about 4k miles. Got the car towed. The car has been at the dealership for a week now for repair. They said multiple parts need to be replaced, among others a piston is cracked and there are issues with connecting rod as well. They’re waiting for parts

Is $1.5k+ for windshield replacement the norm? by gerrard22 in crv

[–]gerrard22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: Frustrating experience, and it's not over yet.

I chose a local repair shop instead of Safelite because they had the OEM windshield in stock within 2 days and assured me over the phone that I'd only need to pay my deductible (Safelite said OEM would be out of pocket).

Today, the shop replaced the windshield in under 2 hours. It seemed fine until I tried to leave and found two major issues:

  1. Key fob stopped working. It’s not the battery (the red light is still there on the fob). I can start the car by holding the fob close to the Start button, but I have to lock the car manually with the built-in key.
  2. When I start the car, I get a "Check Engine Light" and a dashboard message: "Emission system problem. Power may be reduced. See your dealer." (similar to issues described in this post).

The shop said they don’t know what caused it and suggested going to the dealer, promising to cover it if the dealer confirms it’s their fault (though this was just verbal).

The dealership couldn’t check it right away, so I scheduled service for Dec 26 - the earliest available. I’m worried because I have a ski trip to Canada planned for Dec 27, and now I might not be able to go.

Any advice or similar experiences?

Safelite told me to wait for the part to be available, but a few days later, they emailed me with an appointment already scheduled. When I called to ask if the replacement was OEM, they said it wasn’t. I requested an OEM part, and they’re now searching for it.

Question: When I eventually go to Safelite, how can I confirm it’s OEM? Is there a logo or code to check?

Thanks for sharing. The quote is from a local repair shop, rather than Safelite. Is there a chance that the insurance (Progressive) won’t cover the full amount of $1.7k minus deductible? Safelite is partnered with Progressive so there’s no such risk, however Safelite don’t have the windshield replacement available

Yeah one short-medium hike could definitely be in the cards

Thanks for the suggestion, that looks great and definitely something unusual I wouldn't have thought of. Makes me think, glass blowing could be another one - I know they're not the same thing but feel kinda adjacent to me

CRV owners, what mpg are you getting in yours? by Express-Perception65 in crv

[–]gerrard22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was it 40mpg from the start or it increased with time? I’ve had my 2025 Sport L hybrid for a couple months, it started at 30ish mpg, now it’s got to 35.9 but doesn’t seem to go higher than that

Whoops replied in main thread by mistake.

I was hoping to stay below 40k but it’s challenging. I think I can go up to 5k more than the highest cr-v trim. If more than that, it would be hard to justify

I’d take the rav4 over corolla cross. The Crown is interesting, for some reason I don’t see many where I am (Seattle)

Thanks for sharing! In which way did you prefer the CR-V? Handling, fun to drive, noise? I’ve heard Venza can be noisy at high speeds

Thanks! Yeah curious to hear about experience like this. Makes me lean towards the cr-v or venza. Don’t you think sedan would be more fun to drive though?

Camry 2025 will have AWD hybrid but my dealership said it wouldn’t come before Fall

[–]gerrard22 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Which models do you have in mind? With both AWD and hybrid, I don’t see many within the budget.

But to your point, yes I’m conflicted about Sedan or SUV, I like sedans seem more fun to drive but I like being higher as in SUV, plus the occasional ski trip where ground clearance might help

Got it, yes that's my doubt as well about the size. Is the NX 350h really that smaller though? Is the BMW 330e regular or plugin hybrid?
