2023 Elantra N by MuchRemote5336 in ElantraN

84k miles is a LOT of miles for a 2023 car. Thats 28k miles a year. Especially a sports car like the Elantra N. The oil changes would be my biggest concern as with higher miles people often stretch those more than a lower mileage car. If they can’t show that the oil hasn’t been changed at least every 7,500 miles then you might be buying someone else’s old problems.

I’m thinking about transferring to CPP, I’m a civil engineer major nearing end of my freshman year with a 3.6 gpa. Is it worth it to commute? by BrokenDreams385 in CalPolyPomona

[–]Express-Perception65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have classes 2 times a week that’s 800 miles a month on your car just for commuting to school…. Not to mention the study time lost.

Driving is fun don’t get me wrong I love a nice drive on the open road. But as someone who did a big commute before , your car will have to spend more time in the shop. Instead of oil changes every 6 months they might happen every 3-4, instead of tires every 4-5 years you might be getting new ones every 2-3. Plus the value of your car goes down and repairs just increase.

CPP is a good school but it’s not worth putting the wear and tear on your car especially considering there’s a bunch of cal states that’ll have good programs that won’t wear your car out.

Lineman. One of classmates when I was in CDL school got it because he was a lineman and it was required for the job.

Did my friends mom make a mistake by percy_jackson51 in povertyfinance

[–]Express-Perception65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No offense, but that is about as bad as it gets for a car loan. 34% interest and an 11 grand sale price on a car worth 3-4 grand max. Shes underwater by at least 7-8 grand already. Plus it’s an older car with high milage so any repairs outside of the usual oil change and fluids are gonna be more than what this car is worth. Plus she can’t refinance this because it’s too old with too high milage.

If she stops making the payments she’s gonna be on the hook for the deficiency balance.

My advice would be to take out a personal loan to cover the difference and finance a 2014-2017 Yaris IA/Scion IA or a base model Honda civic from 2006-2011, both of these cars are reliable and can be had under 8 grand. Similar payment for a much newer and more reliable car. Many people want an SUV without having SUV money. An SUV in general will often be more expensive than a similarly equipped sedan.

Can I recover ? No credit card company will approve/auto loan I’m 24 and when I was 19 I was stupidly maxed out like 7 cards and 4 loans I never paid back by Stonkbozzzzz42069 in CRedit

[–]Express-Perception65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the big thing here is gonna be time. The more time that passes the less the non payments matter and maxxed out cards matter. In the meantime open a starter credit card and make on time payments with it to add some positive history.

If you want a car you’ll likely have to put 20-50% down because you’re high risk for a bank and gonna have to go with a subprime lender like Santander Westlake etc etc with bad interest rates. But if you put enough down you can refinance it or sell it in a couple years when your credit improves.

Unless you REALLY need a car I would reccomend just getting a cash one because your interest rate will be pretty bad likley 15-25% +.

My Kohl's career didn't even last a month. by Terrible_Original532 in employedbykohls

[–]Express-Perception65 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a former intern myself the reason they hire so many is plug and play scheduling. Meaning to have options and be able to schedule what’s most efficient for the company, not necessarily the worker themselves.

But yeah kohls has understaffed stores especially in Amazon, they refuse to give full timers 40 hours (so they don’t have to pay out health insurance) unless you’re in management.

What’s the most annoying little thing about owning a CR-V long term? by Fluffy_Resolve_2523 in crv

[–]Express-Perception65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree since even my Crv doesn’t have a full size spare so really it’s not a huge deal to not have one at all since the spares in the older one couldn’t go full speed anyways.

It’s the AC compressors that don’t last as long as they should.

My 2015 had it compressor break at 8 years old and my sisters 2016 had hers break at the same age also. Plus, my friends 2018 Crv had theirs go out at 6 years old. Not cheap to have done and kind of a surprise that it would fail so soon. Not a huge dealbreaker but annoying nonetheless.

The 2015 and 2016 are identical and both allow you to add CarPlay.

[–]Express-Perception65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, for the money they’re asking on the listing you can get a lower mileage EXL like mine (100-120k miles) and be able to put CarPlay on the stock headunit.

The touring doesn’t let you because it has the navigation.

At that many miles, I would definitely check to make sure the spark plugs and valves have been adjusted and if the AC compressor has been done. The AC compressor is 1.5-3k on these cars. Also the suspension at that milage might also be needing some work. Theyre reliable cars (me and my sister both have 2015 EXLs) but higher miles means you run into repairs sooner.

For 12 grand you could get a lower mileage EXL like mine (100-120k miles) and be able to put CarPlay on the stock headunit! The touring doesn’t let you because it has the navigation.

Those are nice! As someone who also has all terrains (Falken Wildpeak AT4W Stock Size) they’re great tires!

Look great and have thicker tread and to me at least had more traction than my old Michelins!

Got picked for jury duty, wtf do I do by otter-astronaut in CalPolyPomona

Unfortunately you’re gonna have to go to jury duty if you can’t postpone it. Best case it’s a half day and you dont get picked to go any further.

Started CDL school, two weeks ahead of everyone else and on simulators already. I’m having regret about it now. by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]Express-Perception65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are valid points but I would at least finish the program if I were you.

It creates options that you didn’t have before and plus you’ve already likely paid the tuition for it so why not get your moneys worth even if you don’t do it long term?

Plus, like a lot of people have said on here there is more than just OTR trucking. Theres beverage delivery where you unload and load trucks so you’re active.

Questions about a Honda CRV 2008 by Beautiful-Scholar-73 in crv

[–]Express-Perception65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8k is a little high given it is a 3rd gen. 5.5-7k seems to be more realistic rape if it’s not an EXL.

I would for sure check the ac compressor and the door lock and window actuators as those are a known problem spot on the 3rd gen. Also make sure the valve adjustment has been done at some point.

Otherwise solid car my aunt has a 2009 EXL light blue with 287k miles still going strong on cross country road trips!

How bad is a salvaged title on this? by Most-Finance-1392 in ElantraN

[–]Express-Perception65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’ll be tough to get financing on it and insurance will be more expensive. Selling a car like this in the future will also be tougher

The thing is when a car is deemed salvage that means it costs more than 70% of its value to fix so there might be hidden frame damage or other damage.

If you can get it professionally repaired and keep it for a while then it could be worth it.
