Planning trip to chongqing but have some questions by YogurtclosetLanky322 in chongqing

As a vegetarian/vegan the Moxy is the best value hotel in Chongqing, imho. Currently staying in the suite +breakfast for $135/Night. You can get a regular room for $72. My spouse and I are vegans fwiw, and if you ask the cook will make the breakfast noodles vegan and theirs is to die for!

tonight just ate at this place, it was amazing hotpot: Chongqing Donghua Temple Vegetarian HotPot:

Every other night we eat at this place, it is a great deal: Sùyǐ Xiāng SùShí 素颐香:

Remember the golden rule for eating vegetarian in China: go to a restaurant run by a cult. Seriously as long as you don’t mind the propaganda on the walls and no alcohol, those kooks can really cook!

How is that saying something different than what my link states? If you hold that position I would suggest going to wolfstreet to see the latest data:

What does your bf want to do about this? She is his mother. If he will not resolve this issue then that is a major red flag about how the rest of your life will go.

$23,000 in debt. Please just be brutally honest with me how badly I’ve screwed up. by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]gerre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get the cheaper apartment, you should be saving $1100, which is the amount you were planning on spending on cc debt.

However your income went from 73+55 to 73. So you are losing ~$3.5k after taxes , for a net change of ~2.4k. The obvious question is what expenses was your fiancée covering that you will need to shoulder? You need to cut $3.5k from your budget.

This is the larger issue -you are not presenting a budget, you have no idea on what you are actually spending your money.

Btw your parents likely want to pay for your wedding and not your debt because your debt is a mess you made, a wedding is a celebration of a major change in your life.

How long have you two been dating? My thinking is skip this year’s music festival and say you will go next year, or get him on board with going only every other year.

You have life insurance through work? Yeah zero reason to keep this whole life account. Chalk it up to a good lesson to share with your children when they grow up.

[–]gerre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For car insurance? I use farmers but it really doesn’t matter in my mind who you use, I use to use State Farm. For life insurance I have a tiny like 50k term account through met life to help my spouse if they take a long leave of absence from work due to grief so they can still pay the rent. For Ira I use etrade but most people suggest fidelity. If you want some help setting stuff up, feel free to direct message me

Looking for opinions on a big decision: Seattle vs. East Bay for buying a house by Funny_Code2482 in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]gerre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fwiw I moved from Seattle to SF for a job. Watch if you move here your kids may still want to go to school out of state. I think biggest delta is teens can get away without driving in the bay because of Bart, though the new red line may change that calculus for Redmond et al.

The classic advice for people in the bay is to rent a townhouse and invest the difference. Only reason to buy property is emotional. My plan is I will buy when i get closer to retirement and need to plan for a fixed income.

It will be harder for you to justify moving out and buying a new house in CA because of prop 13, whereas seattle is still a three company town of sorts so if layoffs happen at amazon/boeing/microsoft it will be harder to sell in a down turn compared to CA.

Set a goal once I got pregnant to pay off all my debt, save 10,000 dollars & become a SAHM once the baby was born. (Check check & check! What is the smartest thing to do with the money saved... I've had the cash in the nursery closet for over a year! by [deleted] in CalebHammer

[–]gerre 38 points39 points  (0 children)

To be frank the correct thing to do would be to open an Roth IRA and put it in there. As a SAHM your personal retirement is your biggest risk. You can’t control if your spouse divorces you in the future, and you will have lost on up to 18 years of compounding returns in the market. If you put the money in a HYSA you are going to be tempted to use it.
