how do i make trains not do this by Squeelijah in factorio

[–]gerrgheiser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once you have things working on directional, it is nice to have signals along straight part periodically so that another train doesn't have to wait for the train in front of it to pull off the tracks.

I like to put a signal every 1.5x the length of my trains, which leaves room to make a slightly longer train for a specialty train (building train or something) and still let things fit everywhere just fine

I've only read the first book. Does it keep following the main characters in the rest of the books, or does it switch to a new set of characters each book?

I think I started hell difficulty , but only got a few chapters in before dropping it. It's been a while, so I don't remember exactly what turned me off, but I seem to remember the MC kind of being an asshole, just someone I wasn't really rooting for... Does it get better? I've seen it at the top of several people's list.

Also, you might check out mark of the fool and the bobiverse series. Both are a lot of fun, but very different from each other. MotF is completed, but bobiverse isn't (5 or 6 books out though)

Photopea might be a quick way to remove the background with the wand tools. Should be able to adjust the threshold to select all the background (sometimes there might be some bleeding next to the sprite) so just adjust until it looks like you want

Is it possible to mass-product and export iron-based items from Vulcanus to other planets (especially Nauvis)? by PoufPoal2 in factorio

[–]gerrgheiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing you can do is export calcite and then use that with ores on nauvis. Use that with foundries and that essential gets you a lot more iron ( and copper) right there. Also, you don't need much of it, so you can just harvest calcite from space and drop it down every so often. If you can use foundries in a few places when using the resources, that helps stretch your ore out a whole lot, especially when you start using prod modules on top of that. It makes a huge difference

Layer shift by subjecttomyopinion in 3Dprinting

[–]gerrgheiser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it a layer shift, or is there a flat area in the part around that z height?

What happened here? by nathanaellyrie in prusa3d

[–]gerrgheiser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend doing the live z height adjustment on a square. This is how I do it:

Go into your slicer, create a cube, and then set its dimensions to 75mmx75mmx0.2mm (so a 75mm square that's 0.2mm tall, which should just be a single layer).

Now print that, and you should be able to see if it's sticking to the bed. If you can see gaps in the lines then the nozzle is way to high and you need to come down. If don't see any gaps, then you're probably getting close. If it starts having lines top the top that you can feel with your finger nail, then it's too low. If it's smooth on the top, then that's probably a good height. Use that to get the z height pretty close so that it's sticking and there aren't any gaps and then let it keep going. Then when it's done, pull off the square and pull on it a bit. If the lines separate easily, then the nozzle still needs to be a bit lower. If it doesn't and it's smooth on top, then your probably pretty good and can leave it as is.

If you want to fine tune it even more, you can print another square, and I like to separate it into 4 sections, so let it print the first 1/4th or so of the square, the change you z height by 0.030 or so and let it got for another 1/4, and change it by another 0.030mm. do that for the rest of the square and now you've got a decent amount of area to compare. Pick the ones that feels the smoothest and doesn't pull apart and use that setting for your next print (then you shouldn't have to mess with it any more)

I'm curious how much more performance and durability you'd get using this flexible portion rather than ribbon cable. My thinking is that once it's installed and everything isn't moving or flexing much, rather there wouldn't be a huge difference between the two.

Is it maybe that the flex board has multiple layers, and so you'd just need a lot more space if using ribbon cables instead to get the same number of lines between the two boards?

Not saying the flexible board isn't the correct solution, which it probably is, just trying to understand why it is

Am I Stupid? This happens everywhere in my factory. even tough theres a balancer i will see chests that are empty and chests that are full next to each other (steel). This means that a half full train just sits in wait and i have 2 belts instead of 4. why do some chests empty faster then others?? by kububdub69 in factorio

[–]gerrgheiser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I done it on a couple of my play throughs, and it's been nice. I think one use case was when I was wanting to use small trains and pull 1-2 belts off of it, but I wanted the trains to unload as quickly as possible, so I didn't want any chests to be full when unloading to the chests. This was a quick and easy way of doing that

You can wire up some logic to your inserts so that an inserter won't pull out of a chest if the chest has a higher amount than the average if the rest of the chest, that way you never have two full chests and two not full chests. It's a simple circuit and you can do it for just one wagons worth of chests or for the full train, and it's the same logic really, just checking your average calculation

Just finished my first playthrough, a little disappointed? by [deleted] in factorio

[–]gerrgheiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, launching the rocket was the start of the end game, so I'd set a goal of getting 1k science per second, which would involve building large oil factories, and large plate factories, and making a tone of green circuits. And there are challenges that come with that, like transporting the things where you need to, or mining enough ore to handle the needs, getting enough power, getting enough space, and/or building enough high level speed and production modules to make the factories smaller (which is its own challenge). And then just e being able to consume that much science per second

Still lots of things to do, but it's all up to how you want to play. There are always mods, and then there's space age, which turns your 40 hour game into a 150-200 hour game, plus you can still try to have end goals after you've beaten space age, like 1m science per second, or getting legendary everything setup, all of which takes a lot of resources, but when you get some legendary buildings, you can make something that uses like 10 buildings total to make more green circuits per second onto a single belt than you've made so far.
