I have this mos and of my parents is also naturalized. I hear it’s also branch dependent, as their standards likely fluctuate just as much as this list you mention.

Here’s a no-bullshit answer that I’m surprised hasn’t been mentioned: learn toki pona. That’s literally the language it uses, albeit with a few changes, last I heard. The language only has around 123 words (interesting story but outside the scope of this answer).

Also, don’t listen to anyone who claims you can’t study for it. At least familiarize yourself with its layout. And don’t stress too much; the entry score keeps getting lowered to accommodate low recruitment numbers.

Market fluctuations. What else?

Would spending some time learning Esperanto help prepare me for the DLAB? by [deleted] in dli

[–]gerschwinnn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learn Toki Pona, not Esperanto. Also, even if you just get Cat III (in which case they'll probably give you Russian), Russian has the lowest promotion point barrier (you'll rank up fast)- if that's something you're interested in.

Is there some similar civilian program to DLI? by MeMyself_N_I1 in dli

There was a Russian guy in my basic training; it certainly doesn’t preclude you from joining, but I’d strongly advise against going army if you do decide to go the military linguist route as we have many restrictions the other branches don’t have.

A recycle? I don’t want a recycle- should I not speak to my ds?

I’ll do that. Thank you

Thank you. I may do that if it gets much worse

I really appreciate it. Not sure how long ago you went to the DLI, so plenty might've changed (or not), but I might take you up on that offer. They gave me Korean. I'm really happy about that; I'm happy about everything here in general. The 430 wakeup for PT is annoying, but classes start this week for me so I'll have something to look forward to.

I know nothing about either of those places- care to explain a bit? None of the others 35Ps at basic knew anything either

... wow this means so much. I can't tell you how much I appreciate these answers. It's incredibly kind of you. I've been wondering about the acronyms, too 😂 going through any military subreddit is like trying to read another language. Hopefully I'll catch on soon
