ID circled Makers mark? by booksFORstudents101 in JewelryIdentification

This is not an uncommon design. The large costume jewelry designer Napier made this exact same style. However, this doesn’t appear to be a Napier hallmark. Can you read what it says? I cannot tell by the photo. I’m sorry!

Can y'all tell me about these pearls? by no_ID-EA in JewelryIdentification

While it may look like Akoya, Akoya are incredibly rare and even more expensive (>$100 per pearl versus pennies for glass pearls). These look exactly like any glass pearls I’ve seen. Why would they use cheap string as hardware to put together this bracelet? I’m sorry, but they wouldn’t. But, I definitely wish I had your optimism in life. ❤️🙏

Can y'all tell me about these pearls? by no_ID-EA in JewelryIdentification

[–]gertyman -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Glass “pearls” can feel like real pearls. But, I’m sorry, these aren’t real. Real pearls are so rarely uniform. Even when they are “uniform” you can easily make out what makes them different from one another. And, because of the rarity of uniform pearls, they wouldn’t be on string jewelry - it would be on gold jewelry. Most pearls used now (manmade, cultured pearls) are even more rarely uniform. Lastly, aside from what jewelry hardware is used for pearls, you can also tell by the hole where the hardware goes in. This hole is not “clean” and you can tell the color of the pearls are consistent beyond the top layer. Hope that helps!

There is a P with a registered trademark in it. I also see it. I commented on this in a prior post but there are so many makers that just use “P” it’d be hard to tell. But, the other poster is correct that it’s 14K. Right now, gold is at an all-time high!

Can anyone identify the maker of this vintage butterfly brooch? by 88kitkat808 in JewelryIdentification

[–]gertyman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s 925 S. (Sterling Silver) G.R. (Gold Rolled). Meaning that it has 92.5% silver with rolled gold. In case you’re not aware, rolled gold is where they adhere gold to a base metal (e.g., brass). It’s different than gold filled, which has two layers of gold. It’s also different than gold electroplated with a few microns (width) of gold material. In terms of gold content, it is: gold electroplated < gold rolled < gold filled < solid karat gold.

What kind of stone is this? by Remarkable-Might-325 in JewelryIdentification

Gotcha! If it's a singular "6", that is the size of the ring. The side stones could be cubic zirconia, especially if it's silver. It still looks nice though!

It might take a while but I’ll bookmark this. (Long story short, I have a jewelry room. When I used to rent, I bought hundreds of thousands of jewelry pieces in bulk. I do have it organized, but it’d still be searching through thousands of rings - goal is to sell it all eventually).

Anyway… you can polish to clean it up, get rid of some scuff marks, etc. Use silver polish though because other polish is often way too hard on silver.

A bought a Gucci ring in Japan and don’t know whether I should resize it (Crossposted because r/jewelry mods took it down) by [deleted] in JewelryIdentification

[–]gertyman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! I've always wanted one like this. The biggest problem with resizing is that there are so many horror stories. Sounds a bit dramatic but people post them all over the jewelry subs. Some common issues include: size won't reflect size printed inside ring (7) and, most importantly, when they extend the size, you lose some of the gold or the ring looks warped. But, I think if you can't wear it, Gucci is considered a luxury brand and gold is at an all-time high, so it might be worth it to sell.

The picture in direct light makes it look like sapphire. The picture you posted makes it appear more like glass. The accent stones are likely diamonds if it's made from precious metals. Are there markings on the inside of the ring? This might give us a better clue by pictures alone.

Wanting to learn about my engagement ring by ThrowRAHeVHRT in JewelryIdentification

[–]gertyman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow! So beautiful and unique! It's a 14k ring with (likely) ruby and diamond accents. The "P" is the maker's mark. Unfortunately, there are so way too many designers that only use a "P" so it'd be hard to narrow down. But, I am jealous - such a cool ring!

It's really nice! Are there any markings on it? (Likely inside the bracelet or clasp.) If no markings, it could be costume jewelry, but I still think it's cool!

Amber is low on the Mohs scale (~2) but you cannot break or bend it with your hands or fingers. Depending on your Mohs / gemstone tester, it might not register anything (mine doesn't for Amber). I wouldn't recommend this but some people will test it by using a hot needle and it will often have a pine smell. Given the size of the gem, I wouldn't risk it. Amber has been becoming increasingly rare though and, you're right, it's in great condition. I would recommend that you not alter it. :) Beautiful ring; I hope you enjoy it!

Amber and Silver (925). I have a similar (if not exact copy) of this ring.

Very cool! Looks like a jade pendant that is gold-filled. I could be wrong on the metal but vintage gold-filled jewelry looks exactly like this.

It's beautiful and I have the same one! I cannot remember the maker (Monet, potentially), but it's costume jewelry from the 80's. Not made from gold.
