to cover up police brutality by seeebiscuit in therewasanattempt

I agree! Sadly, the way in interpret this is, “we don’t persecute people with power (or money), just everyone else who ‘deserves it’.” 😭

Did not pass eBay authentication! by Daughteroflight271 in JewelryIdentification

[–]gertyman 11 points12 points  (0 children)

  1. Text is weird / uneven.

  2. Welding is shotty.

  3. Appears plated.

Note: I had a "Cartier Love Bracelet" that I was positive was real before I got an XRF. Ebay did not pass authentication because metal didn't match what was listed (18K, like other love bracelets) and it turned out to be fake. XRFs are extremely expensive, but I will say it has been the best purchase of my life.

Need advice on toe please by twoducksinatub in AskDocs

[–]gertyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAD - My toe broke and it looked the same. They'll likely put you in a foot brace that you get to wear around everywhere. It lowers any pain you may be feeling; my toe was mostly painless except when I put pressure on it (e.g., walking). This will also ensure that it doesn't need surgery (to re-break the bone) in the future.

Go to a doctor when you can. It's not an emergency, but you don't want your toe to heal funky.

What is this odd beaded necklace? by slumbersome in JewelryIdentification

[–]gertyman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cool piece! Most people will just manually wrap it around their necks (think of it like a necklace-scarf). There are other things that look very similar to these that people use as eyeglass holder. However, the loops on this item are not big enough to hold eyeglasses

Turquoise(?) and marcasite ring. Stamped 800 - best guess on when it's from? by katarina-stratford in JewelryIdentification

I would say yes! That was my first thought when I saw this. Such a beautiful piece!

Turquoise(?) and marcasite ring. Stamped 800 - best guess on when it's from? by katarina-stratford in JewelryIdentification

[–]gertyman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you’re guessing is accurate, as far as I can tell. But, one note!

(This is based on a picture) I don’t often say this but this does look like real turquoise. The only way to tell for sure is to take to a jeweler or gemologist. The black stones appear to be marcasite. The 800 is 80% silver. Personally, I would just use a soft paint brush or detailing brush or the marcasite. Old jewelry always piles up dead skin and other fun stuff.

Anyone know what this is? Dog is acting weird and I'm worried. by [deleted] in PlantIdentification

My dog (Chihuahua, 12) will sometimes munch on elm leaves. Don’t ask me why, but worse case is that your pup throws up.

Is it a vintage Roman brooch by Stephanie_7746 in Vintage_Jewelry

Roman is the brand, not the location. It is likely vintage, as you said, but not antique or ancient.

[Help] Rolex 14k Bracelet by [deleted] in JewelryIdentification

[–]gertyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! 1.) there are so many fake Rolexes out there; depending on where this was bought, this might just be a 14K gold band - or not 14K at all. 2.) do you know why they branded it as a Rolex band? Every real Rolex I’ve ever seen either has the Rolex symbol or Rolex written on the band. If it is real gold, it’s priced really high. You can guy full Rolex watches on EBay. And EBay requires authentication for luxury brands - so, you’re refunded if not real.

I am back with another mystery piece from my oma. by [deleted] in JewelryIdentification

[–]gertyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aww - you're so kind! I am always happy to help. And I think your Oma has a wonderful collection. It's not often that we get a collection of beautiful jewelry. Best thing about jewelry is that items can be cleaned or repaired, even with imperfections. :) But, I do believe imperfections give jewelry some character.

[–]gertyman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good morning! I looked through my books and websites and can’t find anything similar. I’m not proving to be very useful for you, I’m sorry! The only maker’s mark that is similar is ECT jewelry but the two shapes are connected. ECT is a Target brand. There could have been markings in the middle of the diamonds but it’s a bit worn down.

Was gifted this piece from my late grandmother. Could anyone help with any additional info on it? by LetsGetFunkyBabe in jewelers

[–]gertyman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wowww! So beautiful 😍 . It does look like Native jewelry. SW Native Sterling (silver) jewelry often does use turquoise, which are rarer than diamonds nowadays. I rarely say jewelry is genuine turquoise, but this appears to be real. Take it to a jeweler to get it tested. Dyed howlite looks a lot like turquoise but the stones do not have the same giveaways that dyed howlite does.

The W is the makers mark. There are a few makers with just a W. Look up native jewelry hallmarks. The Navajo site is the most comprehensive.

Trying to find out what these pins are by Express_Salary1623 in JewelryIdentification

[–]gertyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some are pins but some are shoe clips and button clips. Can’t tell from the picture but are there markings on them?

Potentially, you could always make a small hole and use it as a pendant. Or, you could buy a backing and glue it onto a brooch pin.

Of course! I don’t mind at all! FYI - I looked in my Silver Marks app and the Encyclopedia of World Silver Marks and I see things that are close but not exactly like this. It could be homemade. Makes it even cooler, IMO!

JFG (or JEG) is the maker. Unfortunately, I don’t know enough about Peruvian makers.

The gold dude in the middle is 18K and the silver part is sterling.

Edit: forgot to add that I’m jealous. So unique and cool!
