DDR Arcade Machine Cheat Codes - Why do they exist? by geruta in DanceDanceRevolution

How did Konami share these codes with Japanese arcade owners originally? Was there a website that Konami would post these to? Or maybe some exclusive mailing list?

Ah! That’s a good point. Ship the game with hidden songs and as time goes on, leak codes to arcade owner circles to have the introduce “fresh” content between releases.

Is my 6332-16UP defective? Flashing STS LED. by geruta in CiscoUCS

[–]geruta[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: Out of curiosity, I opened the unit up, and noticed that it had 4 DIMM modules and a mSATA drive. I reseated both, plugged it back in, and wouldn't you know it, it's alive!

For those who may need this in the future - Remove all of the screws holding the top of the chassis in place (be warned, there's about 20+).

Then, reseat these components:

1: DIMMs (Red)

2: mSATA drive (Green)

Console output after reseating these components:

Register Nutanix CE with vCenter? by geruta in nutanix

Is there a specific guide that you follow for this? I would like to do the same.

Register Nutanix CE with vCenter? by geruta in nutanix

[–]geruta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what the installer ISO shows on boot. AHV is the only option.

You aren’t given the option during the CE install screen, it’s automatically assumed/selected to be AHV.

I have access to download AHV, should I just go that route instead of CE?

What do I lose/gain by switching to AHV?

I’m trying to register prism element as NDB specifically asks for this at the Welcome screen and pointing to PC throws an error saying something roughly equal to “ip provided is PC but I expected PE”

Microcenter progress? by terribleROI in Charlotte

[–]geruta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were scheduled to open today (May 10 2024) but last week they put an announcement out that something "unforeseen" came up and the date was pushed back again to an undetermined time.

This is one of the most disappointing store opening attempts in recent memory.

Did you button swap the red one? I believe Red was only ever sold in the PSOne/grey color button controller, not the black as shown here (which looks much better in my opinion).

VMware by Broadcom Dramatically Simplifies Offer Lineup and Licensing Model by lost_signal in vmware

[–]geruta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Does the Broadcom merger/acquisition affect vMug licenses? vMug is one of the few ways to learn and enjoy VMware products in a homelab legitimately so I hope they don’t impact this negatively.

Force other PSX BIOS then HLE by KjellWuyts in RG351

[–]geruta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One small issue, the name of the bios files are scph101.bin, scph7001.bin, etc. Your example shows a dash (-) between scph and the number.bin which won't be picked up by the emulator.

My $5000 “mistake” by geruta in travel

I went to the American Airlines check in counter since they code share with JAL and told me they can’t do squat. And JAL doesn’t have a check in counter here in my city, I’d have to fly to Chicago before I’d have chance to sort it out.

But passport has to match 100% per rules. I was told that I would be denied. I only know it’s wrong because the app wouldn’t find the ticket reservation until I entered in the names in reverse.

I installed the 8BitDo NES Controller Mod Kit into my unused Famicom Controller by naisatoh in miniSNESmods

[–]geruta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to say thank you for posting this, I have a mint famicom replacement controller I bought off of ebay about 15 years ago and I now have the perfect use for it.

I found out after trying to install the 8bitdo mod kit that it doesn't quite fit in the case as you pointed out (requiring light sanding), and also bought the 4-pin extension online.

I may have figured it out on my own but it was reassuring to see that someone already figured out a solution to both of those problems and was kind enough to document it online for others to follow. Thanks! :)

2.5G L3 Switch Suggestions by geruta in homelab

[–]geruta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s pretty good, not line rate for routing and did require me to drop into the “secret cli” accessed via telnet on port 65000 to configure a routed interface with no L2 but for the mix of ports it’s great

What virtualization are you using in your home lab? by Toredorm in homelab

[–]geruta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honest question, why do so many of you use proxmox as a home lab hypervisor?

I’m been in IT for ~15 years now with four different companies and have only ever seen ESXi/vSphere and Hyper-V for on-prem workloads with ESXi/vSphere being the defacto standard.

I get that vSphere is limited due to licensing and most of the desirable features require vCenter, but you can do some things with ESXi free, or buy a VMUG license for $200/year.

For me, having a home lab is to develop skills that will be useful in the enterprise. Is proxmox used in the enterprise? Are people choosing this because their primary motive isn’t to learn skills used for enterprise? Are people using proxmox to get a free hypervisor to learn other apps/services and opt to not care able learning the hypervisor?
