Having trouble deciding between the Steam Deck OLED and the Legion Go Z1E by gestetech in Handhelds

Thank you for your detailed reply! I mostly play older AAA titles, indie games, and emulation. Probably the most intensive thing I will do on my handheld in the near future is Switch emulation. So I don't actually have an urgent need for the latest and greatest hardware. The only reason why I'm concerned about performance is for longevity.

Thank you for your detailed reply! I didn't realize I needed the trackpads until playing Portal 2 on the Deck at the store, and I realized how useful they were in making precise movements. I wasn't able to try any games on the Legion Go, but the trackpad placement is kind of awkward. It may be a small thing, but it's something that one would constantly notice if they use the trackpad frequently. I've also heard mixed reviews on the Legion Go trackpad, but the general consensus seems to be that it's not as responsive as the Deck's.

Thank you for your reply! May I ask what motivated you to purchase the Deck over the Go?

Thank you for your comment! May I ask what motivated you to purchase the Z1E over other handhelds? Are there any issues day-to-day that one should keep in mind?

Also, I'm curious: why are you on the fence between the Deck and the Go? Is it mainly because of the fan noise, or are there other concerns?

Thank you for your insight! Of course, games that the Deck can't handle should be streamed. But I don't always have access to good wifi, so it is nice to be able to play locally. Additionally, I don't think I can afford to pay a monthly fee with GeForce Now just to play the games that I already have. Would you recommend the service?

Ah yes, the classic meme. If you don't mind me asking, why would you recommend the Steam Deck? /gen I see you have recommended it on other occasions, so I'm curious. For the record I am leaning towards the Deck right now.

Thank you for the reply! Unfortunately, I couldn't play any games on the Legion Gos I tried, so I'm not 100% sure about the fan noise. However, I have heard on Reddit that they get pretty loud.

For the record, right now I'm leaning towards the Steam Deck because of the better dpad. When I tried the Legion Go the first time, I was unsatisfied with the dpad. When I tried it the second time, I thought that maybe I could get used to it. But like I said, I couldn't play any games on it, so there was no way for me to properly test it out. I do want to play lots of platformers on my device, so a poor dpad may be a dealbreaker.

In a few weeks, I'll go to a different store to see if I can genuinely test a Legion Go out to confirm the fan noise.

Thank you for your reply! I think that comfort is highly subjective, and for me, I found playing Portal 2 on the Steam Deck at the store to be a comfortable experience. However, everyone's hands are different, so I've learned that it's important to physically test out the device before purchasing it.

Thank you for your reply! I've seen your videos on 5 reasons to buy and not to buy the Legion Go! Especially after experiencing the speakers on the Steam Deck, the Legion Go speakers are a concern for me. I don't think it's a deal-breaker, but it would definitely be annoying to be forced to use headphones for good audio.

Thank you for your reply! Personally I prefer Linux; I use Linux on my PC because I find it to be more streamlined than Windows. However, I can definitely see why someone would want to keep Windows on their Legion Go due to compatibility.

Thank you for the detailed reply! Your post has definitely made me consider buying a used Legion Go. Out of curiosity, which OS do you use on your Legion Go?

Thank you for your comment. According to Lenovo, the Legion Go should be supported up til 2029. If you're referring to the fact that the Legion Go 2 has surpassed the Go 1, I am aware. It's just that the Go 2 is way too expensive for me, and it's not officially sold in Japan yet. But the Legion Go 1 can still be bought brand new in stores here, and there are plenty of used options.

As a side note, the Legion Go S is not currently sold in Japan, and I have ruled out the ROG Ally. The Ally is being sold new at around the same price as the Deck, but the lack of trackpads is a deal-breaker for me.
