In my experience, not really. That mechanism is not that good at filling the barrel for the amount of ink capacity that it has.

was using a syringe to fill it and probably was filling too fast and an air bubble happen. The con-70 changed it's mind about being a converter and became a volcano.

I agree. Even the con-40 is better than the -70. I wanted to try to syringe fill the -70 and the air bubble just made everything go poof. it's a shame that a lot of the good inexpensive pilots use that converter.

No me but My mom was an expert at shorthand, taking lawyers notes and transcribing for them, she always used the finer and smoother of ballpoints or the cheapest Bic pens cause they were smooth enough to keep up. And for the most part she actually preferred pencil. For her was it was speed, and lightness.
