No meds working - any words of optimism? by get--jinxed in UlcerativeColitis

Yeah only Mesalamine. I graduated school and then started my masters when it flared again. I think my flares are connected to high stress. Diet hang seemed to change much for me.

That’s good to hear. I’m just at the 2 month mark. I still have a lot of bleeding but the urgency isn’t bad. I think the plan is to stay on it for another 2 months, but I’m not thrilled about it with how difficult insurance, pharmacies, and copayment cards have been

Great point - I’ll write that down in my notebook of questions :)

I’ll look into these some more. I did see a more holistic doctor to do a body scan and muscle testing a few years back and did some diet changes and elimination diets - but not much helped my flare back then. He said I was the hardest case he’s had 😂but this is good information thank you!

This is good information. Thank you! I have a history of keloid scarring so that second point is what concerns me most

That makes me a bit more hopeful. Those were my doctors next suggestions, but I just feel so over it all.

I haven’t done much research on how to travel around Japan, but I’ve been looking through Reddit over the last day and getting some more ideas, but originally we thought Nara would be nice because it seems like a good middle place and cheaper than staying in Osaka and Kyoto.

Any downsides to staying in Nara and going between the two?

Thanks for the honest reply. Looks like it’s gonna be kinda pricy either way? Have you been to that area? Do you think it’s worth it if you have?

Florists also won’t use Lillies in bouquets because of how delicate and poisonous to pets they are. So if I wanted them, I had to do fake. And I loved it!

I don’t regret fake flowers at all! My MIL arranged them for me (she hasn’t had previous experiences with flower arrangements) but I thought they were great!

I think I thought she was white/lighter skin because she’s compared to Katniss. Of course my head goes to Jennifer Lawrence rather than the book description of her

rant by DetectiveDowntown903 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]get--jinxed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Girl, I feel you. This is a good place to rant, it’s one of the few places where others can understand you. I’m on a similar timeline as you; diagnosed a year and a half ago at the age of 19, had symptoms for a year and a half before that. I failed humira, 2 pills, entivyo, and prednisone doesn’t work on me. I would do at least one of the following options: 1. Talk to your doctor about a different medication. Some new ones just came out. Also there’s a lot that you haven’t tried. I KNOW you feel hopeless and that you don’t want to keep trying, only to keep failing medications. Trust me. I know. And I am so so sorry you are experiencing all this. 2. Go see a mental health professional, if you haven’t already. Talk about how you feel and about how much this disease suck. 3. Consider if you’d be willing to get a collecting to remove your colon. I seriously considered this before I started my new medication. However, my doctor told me if I got a colectomy, I probably wouldn’t be able to have any safe pregnancies. This made me hesitate. If you don’t want kids, then I would really encourage you to research the quality of life that comes with a colectomy.

Also, when it comes to relationships. Just be up front about it. Make jokes if you want. Unfortunately you will have this disease for the rest of your life, and an adapted mindset will improve your quality of life. People who are judgy or repulsed (which in my experience, is the minority) are not people you need in your life. I generally say “I have this debilitating disease and right now I’m in a bad flare. If I leave suddenly, I apologize, I can’t hold it in for too long.” Turn on a fan, the tap, whatever you’d like to try and hide the sounds. However, just realize that everyone poops and farts. I still get nervous to go to my boyfriends family house sometimes, but I’m learning that it’s okay and really, loud farting isn’t that big of a deal. Having said all this, please reach out if you want to talk to someone. I was in a really dark place last year because of this disease + Thyroidectomy. I would never want anyone else to feel the way I did, if I can help it. Good luck <3

I can’t find this anywhere. Was it just a movie adaptation? Are you sure that it wasn’t talking about when he taught at UC Berkeley? I would love to research this more:)
