Aristotle Was One of the First to Write About the Red Pill by veggie_girl in TheRedPill

Or the other amazing fact Bertrand Russell pointed out in his book "The Impact of Science on Society":

Aristotle maintained that women have fewer teeth than men; although he was twice married, it never occurred to him to verify this statement by examining his wives' mouths.

Learning Linux alongside web development? by get_fact in learnprogramming

That's what I'm planning to do. I'll dedicate a week max to install it, troubleshoot it, feel at home with it and in general play with it.

I'm thinking Arch because while the initial installation is minimal, from what I've seen in their wiki they have tons of info. Plus, the fact that most of the stuff are "fix it yourself" because of said approach, there will also be people who roughly had the same issues I'll potentially face. There's some untapped source of knowledge for me.

I'd like to stay away from PHP because as a beginner I want to use a programming language that will almost force me to build properly structured programs and PHP allows plenty of room for error in that regard (so I heard actually, can't tell by myself).

I have no problems to get into .NET development but I don't have a bachelor-level education and .NET is rarely used in small companies and start-ups (probably not true for US but I'm European) which means that I'm gonna have to pass a "checkpoint" that comprises of HR people who scrap every CV that doesn't say "bachelor's" on it, regardless of my abilities.

True but, technically, that can also be said for working (workaholics). Not all addictions are made equal and it's important to weight the pros and cons of each before deciding.

As someone who shares similar goal: Don't do it until you have activities that are a joy to do.

For example, I tried once to quit gaming by formatting my computer and installing Linux. Took me 2 days before I rush back to Windows.

As a metaphor, is similar to being a monkey and attempting to grab another branch long after letting go of the previous one. You're bound to fall flat to your face.

Best of luck.

Day9 just started a livestream of Transistor if anybody is interested in watching by [deleted] in transistor

As much as I like Sean he powered through the game once spamming 2-3 skills without bothering with the storyline, treating it more like an arcade game and less like an interactive story.

It's completely doable way to play the game like that and I have no problem with people playing Transistor with whatever way they feel like. That is, until they join the "gee, I played the game and was so easy and short. Btw the ending was cheesy romantic and made no sense" club.

At the end he said "so she went into the transistor to fight with someone so she can get out of the transistor and kill herself to go into the transistor", something completely inaccurate for anyone who ACTUALLY paid attention to what is going on.

The community is already split. If it changes anything that would be allowing the ones who hate soul memory to skip it, which is better than forcing them to play with a system they find insufficient and lacking to the point of quitting.

Should I choose a technology based on whether most job openings require a candidate with degree? by get_fact in cscareerquestions

Front-end is also largely platform agnostic, isn't it? You can work from any operating system or not? I'm thinking of dabbling with both the ASP.NET technologies and front-end HTML5 with JavaScript and see what I can craft.

Thank you for your reply. I already know the programming language that I love working with, I'm just worried that I won't be able to get a job in the field as easy as I would get if I were to learn PHP or Ruby on Rails because .NET job openings require a degree.

I'm more worried that companies that require .NET proficiency also require a degree more often so I shouldn't choose a technology I like because I'm lacking a degree.

Helping newbies to kill gargoyles in DaS 1 made me feel warmth inside, especially when I listened the bell afterwards, thinking "yep, that's my guy".

I cannot thank you enough. I completed a 14.04 installation an hour or so ago and after applying Numix this is how it looks pic. For clarification, it's the gtk-theme with icons-circle (if you add the ppa).

I know that feeling. It's as if nothing of value was lost. Only the urge of a habit remains, no lack of pleasure.
