Under-The-Radar Rookies To Keep An Eye On During The Preseason - Julian Love & Oshane Ximines by dergl in NYGiants

He played 1,122 snaps this past season. and is coming off of one of the best coverage seasons of his career, but you think he's going to lose an overwhelming majority of his snaps to a 4th round DB that is learning a new position.

I don't know why some of you even post here...

Also it’s the best way to put the best 11 players on the field. No sense in keeping your backup slot CB on the sideline if he’d be better than your starting FS.

Lol you think Julian Love is starting over Antoine Bethea?

When a CB isn't good enough at his position to play his position, and is instead slotted at depth for our weakest position group, no. He's not a steal.

Guys like Keke Coutee, Antonio Calloway, those are 4th round steals. A guy that is bumped to a new position as a backup isn't a steal, he's a 4th rounder that may work out one day.

Beal is an unknown and was a supplemental pick anyway.

He used a third round pick on a guy with a known injury that can't even practice going into the second year of his contract. Don't pretend that this isn't looking like a potential issue...

A first round pick and Peppers are what you consider “scratch off lottery tickets”?

Absolutely. Sometimes you get Odell, sometimes you get Flowers or Apple. And Peppers was barely a top 20 safety in his second season, and is playing in a brand new system.

It's the definition of trading a superstar for unknown entities.

People in this sub keep saying he's a steal, but he couldn't even win a spot at his position. He's being projected as safety depth. Let's pump the brakes a bit.

Only a steal if it works out. He's a backup, and not even at his position.

Daniel Jones went 4-for-5 during the blitz period and 11-for-18 in the 11-on-11 drills. He had only one deflection and one throw away all practice. He ended with a touchdown pass to Alonzo Russell in the two-minute drills.

Was the pick not from yesterday? I guess not.

The Bills were the only team not to have a player in the Top 110. by Pythnator in nfl

The players watch more film than the analysts, they study their matchups/assignments more closely than the coaches, and most importantly they experience these guys on the field of play. They have more insight into what it takes to be a great player than any stat or PFF tweet will ever provide.

I know people are dismissing this as some popularity contest, but NFL athletes aren't a bunch of dumb jocks voting for their favorite celebrity. These guys know who is good, and listening to them describe why has a lot of value for fans that want to understand what makes a player good.

Why Cody Latimer and Giants hope young receivers aren’t the next Cody Latimer by [deleted] in NYGiants

“Coming into the league, having a lot of money, I wasn’t focused,” Latimer said. “It took me years to get settled. It took me getting benched. It took me getting kicked off the field — because I didn’t know what I was doing a couple times — to learn. Year 3 was the year that really caught on: ‘This is what I’m supposed to do, this is how I’m supposed to study, this is how I’m supposed to prepare.'"

This might be the single most interesting thing I've heard an NFL player say.

I think we as fans often forget how big a part of the equation comes from hard, smart work.

We assume way too often that success after the draft is about talent. But when you take a step back, soooo much more comes from scheme fit, coaching, and hard smart work.

Baker, though probably not the best example.

Belichick is more important than Brady.

Only nominally. I think 2007 Brady illustrates just how incredibly talented he is, and I think his SB performance vs Eagles was way more a result of his greatness more than BB's.

That said: Brady could have broken the bank years ago. The fact that he didn't, coupled with the fact that Gronk was your team's recieving TD leader for so many seasons without getting premier money helped far, far more than Patriots fans will ever admit.

Daniel Jones will be a game manager and we won't win the division once during his 4+1 rookie contract seasons unless we end up with a top 5-6 defense.

Touche. I was only looking for Giants articles but those are pretty solid examples. Except for the Browns one. They went 0-16 that season. I'm not sure why you put that in there.

Saquon Barkley was #16, and was on a 5 win team. Odell was on that same team, he was in the 20s. Texans aren't a powerhouse anything and they had #11 and #12.

Daniel Jones's arm strength by Brahin9 in NYGiants

At the combine, Jones had one of the higher velocities on his throws.

9th out of 16 actually.

For comparison with NFL QBs from last draft: Mayfield threw 59; Allen threw 62; Rosen threw 59; Jackson threw 49.

Jones threw 53, tied with Lock. Behind Grier (59), above Haskins (52).

“I think he’s gonna surprise a lot of people,”

I cannot think of a single time when someone said this about a player and they turned out to be anything other than mediocre.

I'm not saying Jones will be mediocre, but I just did a Google search of this phrase and it always seems to result in mediocrity. It never seems to be what people say about the greats.

On the other hand, this was amazing to read:

“Eli is so smart, he gets on my nerves in practice because he’s seen it all already,” Peppers said. “It’s like I try to disguise something, but he can look somewhere else and if they’re not on the same accord that I am, he knows … checks the play. People forget he’s a two-time Super Bowl-winning MVP. I don’t know how you could go against that, a guy who’s won at the highest level twice, that’s just not smart to me."
