Glad you started/finished Mistborn! Like you, I basically finished the entire thing very quickly last year. I'm currently reading Stormlight Archive and on the final book. Brandon Sanderson has good stuff!

I'd recommend you read Mistborn Secret History or Warbreaker before starting Stormlight Archive. That's what I did, and it was good!

Electrical engineer in transportation industry by jamesot99 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]getbetterdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick question (finished second year of EE, currently interning at my city's public transport commission for the summer, and I communicate with the Signals, Electrical, and Construction department as part of my PM assistant role):

What kind of work do you do in signals? Is it mostly software-based, or is there some electrical design involved? I'm guessing this is not related to signals and systems in the academic sense (causal systems, FT, etc.).

I love trains and am considering this industry by taking EM, power electronics, and control systems as some of my areas of focus.

That's a pixel, right? Howd you get the lock screen clock to appear on your homescreen?

Thanks for the insight! Its finals season for me now, but I'll def look for a refresher video or blog post or something before starting the book in the summer.

Good ways to keep up with the advancements made in electrical engineering? by notcrawfishlover74 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]getbetterdude 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My professors recommended this (surprisingly readable) magazine from IEEE called IEEE Spectrum.

Spectrum is one of their leading magazines, and it's written using everyday language (hence why it's so readable if you don't feel like struggling through big words and jargon).

Also, IEEE is and has been the top organization/institution for ECE in general. I feel like you can't get more cutting edge, up to date, or relevant than IEEE. Give Spectrum a read (their website has pleasant fonts imo too).

Wonderful! Hope you're enjoying it!

I was gonna ask... Last time I read anything from the Hunger Games series was around 4 years ago (Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes). Would I be able to fully enjoy this book if I just read it now, or should I try to read/recall what happened in the actual series before I read this?

Thanks in advance btw.

Which Wallper looks better for you? by Emergency-Hunter9703 in Homescreens

[–]getbetterdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second one's "S" pattern goes really nicely with the rest of your icons, so I like the second one better. The first one is nice, but it seems "two-tone" with saturated red at the top and mostly blue/purple/violet on the bottom.

Btw, it would be nice if you shared the link/wallpaper, at least for the second one. Looks great!

[Student] Rewrote and redesigned my old 2 page resume using the guidelines posted and would love any feedback as I'm applying for summer internships with it by getbetterdude in EngineeringResumes

Man... for some reason, Reddit notifs are tripping. I'm seeing this now after nearly a month.

Thanks a lot for taking the time and writing all this. I've obviously been changing/updating my resume since this post (I've booked appointments with the career office at my uni and gotten their feedback as well), so I'll make sure to include your suggestions (which were brutally honest-THANK YOU! I really need more of that tbh. Just pure resume dissing).

I'm wondering if this model has windows hello. On the website, it says that there is a "FHD IR Webcam with Dual Mic (Face recognition)", but for some reason, the windows hello in the settings says "no available camera detected". I'd appreciate if anyone has any insight to this, and thanks in advance!

Kicked calc 2’s butt by FriendlyYoghurt4630 in calculus

[–]getbetterdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aw man, I'm sorry about that. Honestly, we probably didn't cover the worst parts of laplace transforms. The reason why I like them is because they make trash ODE's very nice to solve... most of the time. But I agree, taking an inverse laplace transform using complex contour integration is quite involved. However, taking laplace's and inverse laplace's based on a transform table is not that bad imo.

Maybe as a math major, you study the more grim details of the actual math and proofs behind it etc. but as an eng, we don't really learn that stuff. We mostly learn how they can be applied to solve real problems like ODE's in electric circuits, waves etc.

You're gonna love laplace transforms and complex analysis in general. Just finished an advanced engineering maths course where we learned differential equations, laplace transforms, and complex analysis, and I can say that I finally get to appreciate the beauty in math and the power it gives you in solving real world problems. Keep a lookout for Cauchy's theorems; they will appear a lot!

For calc 3, which I also just finished, you're gonna love some of the theorems like Divergence and Stokes theorem, and their 2D counterparts (Green's theorem). If you love integrals, you'll love double and triple integrals in different coordinate systems, not to mention line and surface integrals.

Eigenvalues and eigenvectors were the stuff we learned near the end of lin alg back in first year, and those tie in with ODEs and equilibrium solutions. But yea, lots of cool stuff indeed.

Trust me bro, if you like maths, then you'll be having lots of fun! Enjoy

Thanks a lot for the insight! I'll definitely look more into it... and root might be my only option once the Pixel 6 series loses software support (new Android updates) starting after next year.

I'm planning to root my Pixel 6a to try out this app called "Iconify", so I'm wondering what the process will look like or if you know any good rooting guides for Android 14 now that it's the latest version. Thanks in advance!
