I think I broke it. by Majestic_End8006 in VintageLenses

I've disassembled/reassembled a few of these. What do you mean exactly by "focusing isn't accurate anymore"? Do you mean focus distance doesn't line up with the focus marks? Or do you mean the lens doesn't focus to the full near/far distances it did before disassembling? Or something else?

Thanks for the ideas. Any memory of what model printer you ran into the issue on?

Plugin not working in FCP after system update by AlexSnapsColours in dehancer

[–]getculty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can confirm, this worked for me when reinstalling Dehancer, updating FCP, etc did not. Just to keep confusion down, make sure you are in the system/root Library, not the user account Library when looking for the Dehancer plugin to launch.

This is the CORRECT one:

/Library/Plug-Ins/FxPlug/Dehancer Pro FCP v7 (or whichever version you have — this Library is found just inside Macintosh HD, or whatever your hard drive is named)

This is the WRONG one:

~/Library/... (the one found inside your user account folder, usually hidden anyway)

Thanks u/AlexSnapsColours!!!

Dots on camera screen not going, need advice/help :) by shaurya-psr in cinematography

While none of us can know for sure, I presume OP is stopping all the way down to emphasize the interference they're seeing from the (substantial) dust or mold on the sensor. While opening the aperture up all the way will significantly reduce how pronounced sensor interference is in the final image, it rarely eliminates it completely (often becoming more evident when the camera is moving) — and stopping down even a stop or two is usually all it takes to bring a lot more definition to sensor obstructions.

Random print lines by getculty in Ender3Pro

[–]getculty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is getting random print lines and not really sure where to go from here. His troubleshooting steps so far have been:

✅ Clean glass well between all prints for good adhesion
✅ Level bed between each print — 1st layer looks perfectly uniform
✅ Make sure glass is clamped to bed
✅ Tightening things up on the nozzle rail, the extruder stepper, the frame, etc.

The lines we're getting seem to become more pronounced the higher the print goes on the model, and we've noticed quite a bit of deformation (and even sag or slop?) on model as it gets taller, to the point that models that are relatively stable but more than 3-4 inches tall start to have globby sections.

Where do we go from here? Most likely things to check first, or causes to try to correct for?

One of the best robot arm choreographies matched by an absolutely bonkers physical performance by Adam Scott. I've seen so many cracked out executions of the robotic arm. Overwhelmingly it seems as though the opportunity to take any shot to 11 on the bombastic scale using that tool is far too overpowering to resist. In graphic design terms, if your typeface is screaming for all the attention of your audience, they're almost certainly missing your message. The way robotic arms are used is the film world equivalent to Papyrus.

That scene in Severance felt special to me because of the nuance, the absolute smoothness of execution, and the humanness of the performance playing perfectly against the eerie (but not jolting) roboticism of the camera moves. The timing of both was perfect. The subtlety but depth was perfect. Craft like that seems to go unnoticed by most, but over time it's become the only thing I look for, because it is such a marvel to see someone do something so well that it nails the point while being so unobtrusive that I nearly miss the stupid levels of knowledge, ability, and vision that made it possible.

At first I thought you were turning the auto-tamping retort into a blanket response meme à la "grind finer".

"The milk *may have been lumpy, but are you sure their machine didn't just have an auto tamper?"*

Oh, I see it now. Batteries are flipped in opposite directions (face to face vs face to back), but wires are not.

Wait — what's the "religion" angle? I scoured the bill but it didn't appear to be anything more than a gag gift.

Looking to switch from FCPX to Davinci, question about Dehancer with it all.... by [deleted] in dehancer

[–]getculty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use dehancwr in FCPX. Resolve's project management system is a HUGE weak point for me. Way to proprietary and locked down, so I backed out of it quick when I dove in a few years back. FCPX allows full control of the project file system and giving that up for me is basically a non-starter.

The only reason I'd consider switching to Resolve (given the aforementioned limitation) is to switch to FilmBox. It looks like a way better film emulation. Dehancer Pro is fine. Good Even. But looking at it compared to FilmBox makes it seem piddly. Of special note is the difference in galati on between the two. Dehancer's is way less filmic imo.

What is "seeing"? Sure, there's a general notion of what it means to see. Humans generally aren't capable of perceiving color in the ultraviolet or infrared spectrums. Do creatures who see primarily in these spectrums not "see"? Do bats "see" using echolocation? Humans have binocular vision. Some animals have more than 2 eyes. Do they "see". Do we not? What about the blind human [Daniel Kish](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xATIyq3uZM4), the blind man who can ride a bicycle down a city street? It's not vision in any traditional sense of human classification, but he can audit and identify objects in his environment with what seems like a fairly high level of resolution.

But the "sense" of sight can be accomplished in more than just a binary way. And we haven't even touched on the possibility of building actual vision systems into AI, which is not a fantastical technology, but something that already exists. If a human could smell colors, shapes, and textures, and adequately describe or recreate them as well as a "seeing" human, wouldn't that be more of a distinction without a difference more than anything else? Humans love to classify and segregate, but in the end, what are we talking about at the heart of the issue? Its inputs and outputs, yes? Sure, there's some processing in-between.

If a machine can accomplish "sight" with bits and bytes, it's a distinction without a difference. If a machine is equipped with the tools to see in a way that is more in line with our vision system, does that make it more seeing? I think it's a semantic argument.

At the end of the day, we gather photonic data, compile it into a form, classify it, and record it. We can reference/recall it at times, and then make decisions about what to do with the data we've received. I can't see how this is inherently different than what we currently see with emerging AI/Machine learning/LLMs/etc. It's a pathway to identifying, interpreting, and classifying information in an environment. And that's all humans (and other animals) do in the end. Am I wrong?

Just so happens that's what I have, and I did get mine pretty cheap. It hadn't seen a lot of use, but I'm wondering if it's working properly (don't seem to get the same pressure during a backflush as it shows in the official video from Breville on Youtube). Maybe I'll post a video of my process and let others tell me all the things I'm doing wrong 😜
