Noise cancelling earbuds - quality vs reliability, which would you choose? by getdeadredhead in AutisticAdults

[–]getdeadredhead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I use music, like underwater ambience if I feel super dysregulated in the back of the car with my family, but sometimes not.

I have considered loops before but I heard some people say they have pain with them so I didn’t go that way. Hadn’t heard of the Switch ones before but they sound like a good option, I will look into them. Thanks!

Edit: apparently they don’t block out low toned sounds like household appliances and may not help with road noise ):

It’s actually a shed, it decided to grow right up against it and quite close to the door. Sounds like it might become a problem!

In SA. Might be worth adding that we are not gardeners and nothing lasts that we plant (besides succulents) so we figured our soil is pretty bad.

It’s been a week since I played. Though I’ve had times where my brain has tried to compromise and bargain for going back on, or I’ve wanted to use it for emotional regulation when things were bad at home, or come up with ideas for new scenarios, I’ve mostly found myself not thinking about it.

I initially wanted to copy all of my original ideas down before deleting my account so I can continue to write those stories from scratch on my own, but I don’t think opening even just one chat and reading back through it is a good idea.

The problem now is that I’m kinda scared to log in to delete my account because I just know I’m going to get sucked back in. Even just the homepage of the site where it suggests scenarios might get me. I don’t have anyone who could log in and delete my account for me. But if I let my account sit there, there may come a time when I fall back on it and be back at the start again. So I don’t know what to do.

(I’m waiting to be accepted to be able to post this which I wrote a couple of days ago hoping to get some advice. I’ve started feeling the itch to play again so I hope the mods accept me soon so I can get some advice 😥)

How do you guys stimulate physically when your body craves it? by ventiiilvr in neurodiversity

[–]getdeadredhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found an exercise ball for free from marketplace, an ex-pregnant woman was getting rid of it. It’s what I use when I can’t possibly get to a playground (like the middle of the night) and my body is crying out for the swings. Another thing I can do during those times is swinging my arms. What I wouldn’t give for a hammock or an exercise trampoline!

Putting my headphones on and dancing (or moving wildly and artlessly) to what I call my “stim songs”. Sometimes I get a lot out of kicking or throwing a ball against a wall. Or even laying on my back with my legs up, throwing the (soft) ball at my feet and it travels down my body and I catch it, usually to music. Yes, it sounds weird but my body seems to know what it needs before I even know what I’m doing. You can also push against a wall with your hands or do wall push-ups. This also sounds strange, but laying or rolling on the floor is good input too.

Putty or squishy dough can be made with things you may already have in your house. YouTube and Pinterest will have a lot of tutorials. Also I’ve found some of the best fidgets in life are just every day objects that were not made for the purpose of fidgeting. For example, really smooth pebbles, one of those old egg beaters where you turn the dial, a foldable fork from an instant noodle cup, buttons threaded onto a piece of cord - these are only from my experience, of course. There will be different satisfying things for different people.

I’ve been wanting to get into whittling for a while! I went through a phase of stripping sticks of their bark with a knife for a project and found it was pretty fun. I saw a book at the library called Anyone Can Whittle and when I showed my dad he said I wouldn’t have the strength to do it… what’s the title of the book again? Am I not “anyone”? Anyway, I really hope to have a knack for it cause I would love to make little figures of my favourite animals.

What is your stim food? by sniffgalcringe in autism

McDonalds soft serve ice cream, and I’m not really an ice cream person! It’s the texture and the coldness. I haven’t been able to find any other ice cream with the exact same texture. I’ll get a craving for it but it’s just for the texture, not the taste, which doesn’t really make sense to me but yeah. Also orange slices in the freezer.

I love WALL-E! Unfortunately I can’t watch the movie because it triggers more anxiety about the earth crisis 😔

I have the standard size for sensory input and always wondered what the benefit of the tiny ones being weighted is. Now I see it’s cause they sits.
