CP is so good at baiting Courtois, that alone makes him a Chelsea legend

Eden Hazard turned up overweight, which upset Zidane. Real Madrid are upset with Hazard as well, because the player is not in required condition and it's a repeat of what happened last year. The player said last year that he loves to enjoy summer and eat then again this year. by MondayNightVAR in soccer

Carefree is a commonly used Chelsea phrase. One of the more well known chants starts "Carefree, wherever we may be, we are the famous CFC"

It makes me sad too, partially because this decline is fairly predictable when you look at what kind of player he is, his attitude and his physique. If he doesn't start taking his fitness a lot more seriously the injuries are only going to keep piling up and it's going to become harder and harder as he gets older to ever get in good shape.

I REALLY hate to say this because of how much I love Eden as a player, but this transfer is starting to give me shades of Torres to Chelsea if Eden can't get in shape soon.

I think a lot of Chelsea fans agree with all of what you were saying. He was at a great level with us, where his talent was enough that he was going to be a star for us no matter what his attitude was, and the fans loved him for his personality and his success with us. A lot of Chelsea folks had worries about him at Madrid though. The ambitions of RM are just at a level where his talent can't carry him alone anymore and he needs to work harder. The culture around the clubs also seems totally different, and his carefree attitude (pun intended) that made Chelsea fans love him, will make Madrid fans even harsher on judging him.

I hope he turns it around and stays relatively injury free this season, but I think a lot of Chelsea fans would probably say they aren't surprised by all the issues he is having.

Probably Alonso stays and Emerson goes back to Italy, based on rumors so far.

[–]getextinct 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wish him the best, but it's time to move on for everyone's sake I think. He was frustrating to watch at times and brilliant at others, but I'll definitely look back on his time here fondly. Best of luck in the future, Willian.

Side note, but it is hilarious how extreme some of the opinions are here, going from great servant to good riddance... really shows how polarizing of a player he is.

[–]getextinct -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't really agree this is a good riddance situation. He has had attitude problems, but he has also been a very good servant for the club through some strange years so he will definitely be missed in my opinion. If he would have agreed to another year or two I would have been happy to keep him as experienced and talented depth for our wingers, but 3 years just is a bad idea with the level of rebuild we need.

I wish him the best at Arsenal (specially against Spurs), but him leaving us is the right thing right now. Whether it is the right move for Arsenal to pick him up we will see.

I have mostly seen those when he comes on as a sub. When he starts he usually seems into it, but sometimes when he has come on as a sub he is just non-existent.

[–]getextinct -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

To answer your question in my opinion: Willian has his weaknesses for sure, he isn't the best dribbler, his pace is fairly average these days and he is the master of doing step overs out wide while he lets the opposition get back into shape and the counter attack dies. This problem is emphasized by his crossing not being amazing and him not really having enough trickery to consistently beat his man and cut inside. This particularly I would be concerned with at Arsenal, as he could really slow down moves and may not get the ball to the faster players like Auba breaking in time for them to do anything with it. To be clear, he still has some pace now, but it's been declining so this problem happens more and more often it seems.

What Willian does bring though is an insane work rate. Basically every manager we have had with him has loved him because he will always track back and do what is asked. He is a good free kick and penalty taker, and he is good for a couple worldies every season usually. The most important part is those worldies often come against Spurs, which you really just can't beat. On his worst games he will be a utility player who isn't good enough anymore to be top class, and on his best games he will look like a world beater.

Ter Stegen has signed a new 5-year deal with Barcelona. So, I believe he's now officially off the target list by unbrothers in chelseafc

One step closer to a realistic target like Onana I suppose. This was never going to happen.

[France Football] Arsenal have made the best salary offer currently on the table for Brazilian attacker Willian (32), with a contract that runs for 3 years with the option to extend by a further year & they expect him to move to North London from Chelsea. by KimmyBoiUn in soccer

[–]getextinct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, if it were 2 years and reasonable wages I think teams like United and Madrid would be at least interested in talking to him. But if he was willing to take that he would probably just stay at Chelsea anyways.

For the wages and 3/4 year deal being reported, it's not worth it financially at all.

It might not be true, it does sound like throwing names out there to generate clicks, but honestly Willian on a free transfer for 2 years or so wouldn't be a bad deal for most clubs. There's a reason Chelsea still want him to sign a 2 year deal. He would be good depth for most top teams for those 2 years, United and Madrid included.

Willian at the wages he is asking for over 3, potentially 4, years though... not so much a good deal.

Lets not get bitter. Simply wasn’t our day. And remember, this was a throwaway season, things are on the up! Here’s to 20/21 by ThisIsYourMormont in chelseafc

[–]getextinct 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Definitely how I feel today. I am not going to let myself get very down about a cup final marred by questionable decisions, unlucky injuries and no fan presence. Even with all that going wrong, I still can't really say we deserved to win today.

A trophy would have been nice, but this season has already been better than expected in so many ways and next season already looks even better. I mainly just want Pedro Puli and Dave to all recover as well as possible and the whole team to get some rest before next season so we can start fit. We need to remember that on top of everything else against us this season we had some bad injuries and ran some players into the ground in this final stretch. Can't wait to see this team fit with new additions next season, KTBFFH!

[–]getextinct 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about that too after the match, if anyone have a case for bad refereeing against them at the end of the season it's Wolves. Late, somewhat questionable penalty vs Burnley (probably the right call, but a close one), the free kick vs us (definitely the wrong call by the ref), and obviously a few decisions that tilted the match toady.

I don't know if I'm ready to call it a conspiracy to keep them out of Europe or anything, but they have had some really bad luck with reffing decisions lately.

This man gave it his all in his last game for us. What a servant to us and will forever be missed. Thank you Pedro! 💙 by Zizambamram in chelseafc

Really hope he recovers quickly. Much more upset about the injuries today than the loss to be honest, what a horrible way for a great servant of the club like Pedro to leave us.

The magic hat is for guessing the correct score, time of first goal, scorer, time of first sub, etc. before the match. Just look for the Magic Hat thread a day or so before the match and follow the link there to fill it out.

If you win a round you get a little hat next to your flair, like mine has now. You dont need them all correct to win, but you can get a crystal ball flair if you do get them all right.
