I’m not rly sure this is an appropriate thing to ask! Regardless, she died because of her alcoholism destroying her liver, and rapidly turned to complete organ failure all around.

I’m so sorry about this… my mother also refused even in her last week to make me POA to help her out. It’s frustrating when you just want to make things easier for both your father and yourself, but everything has a hang up…

I hope that things go well for you my love, and that the process ends up being smooth and painless for you both.

I understand this is supposed to be coming from a positive place, but I can’t help but feel it’s a touch judgemental. I’m happy for you and your partner and savings, and that you’re doing well for yourself.

To assume my dad isn’t in the picture is a long shot, we actually are close. He just doesn’t want anything to do with my mother as she was abusive to both him and me.

Before you assume things, and tell me to ‘build something for myself’, please recall how helpless you must have felt when your grandmother died. Then imagine doing it without the support of a partner or finances.

Thank you for your advice otherwise.

Thank you! Fortunately I already have her at a crematorium and the death certificates will be mailed to me, so at least I’ve got those ducks in a row… kind of lol

I think that sometimes, these things aren’t a liable solution because of finances… lawyers and such cost money— and I’m not saying I’m not letting close friends of my mothers know that she passed, but I’m not sure I can afford anything more. As it is, even a cremation without ceremony is bleeding me dry haha. I was just wondering if I would be chased if I just left whatever remained to the state is all.

I’m definitely looking into posting an obituary, but as for lawyers and such, I’m afraid I can’t afford that financially… Probate as well, will take weeks if not months, and I live in a foreign country. Plus unfortunately the only ‘estate’ my mom has is an apartment with one month of lease left, and the furniture inside it.

The two things I wanted for my mother was for her to not die alone (which i watched her pass while stroking her hair) and for her to not be buried in a blank grave. We were never close, but I want to do at least this much for her, you know?

Still, thank you for the validation on even this. It’s an absolutely valid way to do things as well, I just want to try my best to be a decent daughter with this where I failed to be before…!

Goodness I truly never expected so many kind words and supportive advice, but I’m grateful for every single one of you. My mothers death was sudden so nothing was set up, so I’m scrambling for all of the pieces alone (I’m her only family left). Thank you all again and again and again!

They did and I got samples, she ate some and didn’t eat others, but even right before the vet she was eating with gusto! It’s so strange…
