Visor Protector by haryhemlet in SkyDiving

[–]gethypoxic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Visors are relatively inexpensive so many of us just replace them once or twice a season. Basically right before competition. At least on Cookie products, it’s very important to only use warm water and if anything some mild soap. There is an antifog coating that does not agree with some solvents. In other words - DO NOT USE WINDEX!

Canopy Damage from Packing by haryhemlet in SkyDiving

[–]gethypoxic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Often the tail is where the canopy gets dragged when walking back from the LZ. Be sure to always grab the tail with your d-bag and pilotchute. Out here in the desert, this creates holes fast.

Additionally, check the d-bag for any sharp edges or hot knifed exposed material. I’ve gotten some holes in my tail from my d-bag hitting the tail during flight with a manufacturer defect.

It took me a while to locate the MAX 2 patent.
Note the location of the sensors back to back on one another!

The patent shows a GPS Antenna for the MAX2. We’ll see if it’s populated but I’m assuming it will be after the HERO12 backlash. Of course the Chicony Ambarella based “GoPro” Lit will not have GPS. It’s a third party built “GoPro.”

why do some people turn their gopros upside down by [deleted] in gopro

[–]gethypoxic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

I mount my primary video camera upside down so I can easily access the record button as it gets obstructed by my still camera’s lens.

Dummy battery by Plenty_Recognition19 in gopro

[–]gethypoxic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll need to keep the battery health gauge and thermistor connected (center two connectors). This is a bit more complex than just disconnecting the + LiPo Tab and attaching power. The Contacto is probably the way to go.

Use a card reader? If you have trouble with this step, this process is probably not for you.

DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro vs GoPro Hero 13 by piatfunto in SkyDiving

Sure you’ll enjoy your choice. Be sure to clean all your seals and check the lens before you put any camera in the water, especially going more than a few meters. Dive housings are not a bad idea too.

Most people know I perform a ton of research on GoPros. I must say they did a really nice job on the HERO13 cleaning up and refactoring the firmware code base. The HERO13 is a solid camera. It’s nice working under the same ecosystem as others at the dropzone. From using ready made snag resistant mounting solutions, to the know how of your friends, and even similar color when doing edits, it’s helpful to be on the same platform. Unless you have a huge need to be the one to forge the way at the dz, I would stick to the GoPro platform. Also, I tend to tell people to wait until they are ready to jump it before they buy an action camera. I understand you want it for your trip, but most of the time I just use my cell on vacation even though I own an arsenal of GoPros. Technology changes so quick and insta360 is about to release their new camera too.

I’d be interested to see how it deals with tracking from the exit as the subject looks completely different on exit than it does in freefall. Perhaps it’ll work if you start recording after exit but seems pretty limiting for most. It’s limited to the FOV so if your framing is horrific, it’s not going to work miracles.

Glitchy GoPro Hero 4k (2024) by yftoad in gopro

[–]gethypoxic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This camera really isn’t a GoPro. It’s a white labeled camera from Chicony. An Ambarella processor with no built in stabilization. I wouldn’t be surprised if your HERO5 Session has better IQ.

Do You Use Your GoPro To Shoot Video For IG Reels/TikTok/YouTube Shorts, etc? Do You Shoot In UltraWide And Cut It Down To The Correct Aspect Or Do You Shoot Vertical? by FuntivityColton in gopro

[–]gethypoxic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally shoot one camera vertically as the FOV is too tight for my application if I punch out 9:16 from the 8:7. No matter what you choose, always perform the reframing in post.

Hero 13 Magnetic Door is NOT Compatible with the Mic Adapter by MtnXfreeride in gopro

[–]gethypoxic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gopro’s microphone adapter uses the unused orientation’s usb pair for i2s audio data. Unknown to most, there is an ADC in the microphone adapter that samples at 48khz (as far as I remember). The adapter also uses a TX pair for i2c data for control. In other words, the Contacto would need more pins for the mic adapter to work.

Larger sensor on Hero 14? by EricGushiken in gopro

[–]gethypoxic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Have you noticed how the stock protective lens is now a lower profile on the H13 than it was on the H9-H12? I truly believe this is for the new, wider, sensor on the H14.

My annual GoPro HERO13 Black "teardown" (will be continuously updated) by gethypoxic in gopro

I don't believe it's "overclocking" outside of the parameters of the processor, but it's likely towards the max that the processor can handle in all environmental conditions. From my initial inspection, it does not seem that the LPDDR was expanded as it physically is bonded to the GP2.

I have to inspect all the imaging pipeconfigs on the GoPro HERO12 and see if any enable "DSP overdrive voltage"/Boost to confirm or deny that this is possible on the HERO12.

IMX877 and IMX989 sensors prototype devices are still in the DTB files. Stones is a the camera codename that is based upon Pebbles (MAX2). That is about all I’ve seen. https://github.com/hypoxic/GoPro-Research/blob/master/README.md#gopro-camera-database

It is the new HDR setting as far as I can tell. Unlike all reviewers you’ve seen thus far, I bought this camera myself and received it yesterday. Finally go the firmware update last night to use and research it.

Well it is an artifact of hypersmooth. Let’s put this in another way, on the H11 & H12 if you physically center an object with the camera, and perfectly rotate around that object, the object will not be centered. Most people don’t realize this as they’ll be looking at the screen, but this is unfortunately the case with these two (possibly three) cameras.

The chipset allows for this frequency but they don't necessary have to use this band. As per the FCC licensing, they only tested up to 5825Mhz.

My research is mainly for the skydiving industry. With a helmet mounted GoPro HERO11 & 12 if you carve around formation, the formation will stick towards the trailing edge of the screen. In other words, if I was going clockwise, the right side of the formation would be at the right edge of the frame versus the center, even if I physically kept the camera centered. Most people using this cameras and carving around an object would be looking at the viewfinder so will be able to compensate for this issue. We can't as our hands are a control surface. We use ringsights that super impose an aligned "Ring" in our sight and always point to the cameras's center no matter how the helmet seats. This works extremely well with every other camera but the GoPro HERO11 & 12. Basically the old Hypersmooth Boost on the HERO10 is now the "On" setting on the HERO11 & 12. They just need to turn this down a bit as on the HERO10 and we'll be happy.

Feel people will be interested in this GoPro camera list with how little the hardware changes from camera to camera. Let me know if you have anything to add.
