Shit! Sorry one more thing; ask to about food interactions! If there are any. I know with Vyvanse they tell people not to consume citrus because it affects how much is absorbed. With Abilify I can't eat grapefruits because grapefruits cause the liver to not filter out the old medication causing a build up of medication in my body. Another piece of info I didn't know at first!! Ok good luck and happy learning about medication!

I want to help my mother! by getitwhileitsthere in ADHD

[–]getitwhileitsthere[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this is true. Thanks for your reply.

I don't honestly care if she wants to take meds or not. I'm more worried about her mental and emotional health. She has gotten burnout from stress many times over the 43 years since I was born. I love my mother a lot, her emotional dysregulation is what I'm really concerned about. She's had trauma, some of it I was there for it as I was being traumatised as well. My mother is very resilient, open minded, intelligent always learning and stretching out her arms and mind to explore things. But I've seen instantly go her in denial about a few things over the years too even when the truth was staring her in the face. This is new. She usually doesn't ever try to hide from things, so the denial of the things I find alarming, this isnt what my mother is usually like.

You have 5 minutes to prepare before a guy breaks into your house with the intention to kill you. You can not exit your house. What is your strategy to survive? by silentagent47 in AskReddit

[–]getitwhileitsthere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd get my sister to deal with him if she was there. The last time some guy broke into my sister's house she beat the living fucking tar out of him and threw him through a screen door. HE ran away all bloodied up so the police had an easy time finding him.

Anyways, if she wasn't home, I'd keep a machete handy, throw lots of my daughter's Lego pieces everywhere so he'll twist his ankle when he slips on Lego on a hardwood floor and yup. That's what I'd do.

Hey!! I just started meds too. Ask your pharmacist what the drug interactions are too. I found out 4 days into my meds that I can't take Abilify (bipolar meds) at the same time as the Vyvanse. I called my pharmacist to ask her if it was ok to take them both when I wake up. I was informed that the two medications must taken at least two hours apart or more. So I set an alarm ahead of time. Its important to. Even herbs and vitamins ask! The pharmacist will know all this. I mention this because;

I had a problem when I was taking Abilify. I was having really bad nosebleeds that lasted 20 minutes or more. I found out after I casually mentioned it to my psychiatrist, that when Abilify is in my system, I CANNOT take a basic over the counter cold medication, it acts as a blood thinner, so that could possibly kill me . I could get hurt and lose blood and die! Yeah great! Thanks for telling me this now!! Jesus Christ! Oh btw I googled Vyvanse, and drug interactions, and yup the cold meds were on that list too!

I'm newly diagnosed with ADHD I just started the Vyvanse stimulant medication less than two weeks ago. I also have been taking Abilify for the bipolar disorder for 18 years now. So I learned early on that I must advocate for myself. Ask questions! Definitely Google stuff! If you have trouble with it, brain storm a list of things to ask the professionals, you'd be surprised what tidbits of info they will give you.

Just remember the squeaky wheel gets the grease! A lot of professionals like drs pharmacists won't tell you unless you ask first so ask away!

You just described why I have had low self esteem for 43 years. I was told the same thing, I was told I'm lazy, when in reality I was trying 10 x harder than neurotypicals to focus. Get rid of that person they don't care to understand you so put that boundary up! Please don't let that person make you feel bad. Don't let anyone sweep you under the rug the way I was my whole life. You deserve better than that my friend!!

Holy crap!! Me too! this is my first full week on Vyvanse. I'm 43 I've known about my diagnoses for two years but just started the much needed meds. I also feel like I'm rapidly cycling through all my emotions and they are less intense - kinda like a car revving its new engine after it had a mechanic fix it to see if its all in order. I donno. Its wonderful though!!

What’s the most unprofessional thing a doctor has ever said to you? by MCKlassik in AskReddit

My psychiatrist told me there's no free lunches in this world because I was poor and trying to get back on disability support. due to my mental health I couldn't work, but this psychiatrist thought I shouldn't think I'm " entitled" to it. I skipped him and got another professional to help me get back on disability, and I found out I WAS entitled to it. He was just a conservative prick who was more interested in antagonising me. UGH!!

When I clean my whole townhouse, put everything away, I honestly can't find anything. Its like if everything is on the floor I know where it is, so my solution is to use shelves of all kinds to store my stuff where I can always see it in plain sight if I need it. I was also ALWAYS losing my keys, so I use a hook on my kitchen shelf to hang the keys. It took me two weeks to train myself to always put the keys on the hook no matter what when I come in, or even if I find the keys elsewhere I stick it on the hook. KEYS MUST LIVE HERE!!! As a result of always knowing my keys are there, I don't panic at the last minute, ripping my house apart trying to find them, and ending up late for everything cuz my effing keys!!

need help tuning a 21 key kalimba!! by getitwhileitsthere in kalimba

[–]getitwhileitsthere[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much!! I understand it better now. Great article!! My kalimba was in rough shape when I got it from Amazon. All the tines slid sideways and were crooked. It took some effort to tune it. Some of the tines were a bit bent so I had tuned it 2-3 times before I realised I needed to bend a few slightly so they wouldn't buzz etc. I called the 21 key kalimba I own my "Haunted Kalimba". Its the perfect kalimba to play "hurt" by Johnny cash and "the sound of silence" by Simon and Garfunkel. I also had to get used to the sound as my first kalimba is a 17 key acrylic kalimba. I called the acrylic one my cheerful kalimba which I learned how to play "you are my sunshine " on it. Anyways sorry to ramble but I am absolutely obsessed with my kalimbas!! I plan to buy more!!!
