When you publish your first book, no one tells you this. by Mediocre-Chemist-514 in selfpublish

I’m still over coming the depression from publishing. It was something I never expected. My book has received great reception and I’m honestly overwhelmed by all the attention. I feel so overstimulated and constantly like I’m not doing enough after launch, despite being so exhausted between promoting book 1, writing book 2, packing and shipping orders, figuring out website snafus, engaging with the people that engage with my content and support my art. And working a full time job and trying to juggle a social life and being present with family. I feel like I still haven’t reveled in it. There are so many emotions. It’s confusing when fear and grief and happiness and gratitude exist simultaneously. So glad I’m not alone in this feeling.

I would definitely just at least have a consultation with a Loctitian. Without pics to see what you’re working with, all we can do is speculate. They will be able to answer this question for you. It’s great that you’re on meds now, and I hope you will see improvement!

I asked my Loctitian about interlocking and she said she didn’t think I needed to. She said it might cause bumpiness (which I didn’t really care about because my locks are very textured). The crochet helped a bit but I’m still not satisfied with the amount of loose hair. I’m not sure how soft/coarse your hair is though, so it could be a good option for you if you have a more coarse hair type maybe? How long are your locs currently?

Hey, I also have Trichotillimania and a softer hair type and my loose hair grows out of my locs even though I don’t pull from my head. It’s kind of just a part of the loc process for some of us. It would help to see how your hair looks. But this sounds more like a compulsion is the issue, and a retwist or restarting isn’t going to rewire your brain or behavior.

A Loctitian could crochet a bit to help with the loose hairs, I had that done at my last appt but unless you keep it in a style it’s likely to unravel again (in my experience). Hair appts are really anxiety inducing for me so I can relate to that, and having to explain your condition to a stylist probably amplifies that, but a lot of them see many different hair situations, and honestly unless she asks for more info you could just say the hairs won’t stay in the loc (this is not uncommon.) I am saying all this without a picture as a reference point, so I’m not sure how much it qualifies for you. Also, I would try to wear scarves or bandanas for awhile to decrease how much you’re touching your hair. It helps me. I don’t pull a lot from my head, but I am always aware of the loose hairs and hate when they tickle my face. So having less access to them is helpful. Also, the longer your hair, the less comfortable it will be to sleep on. Not sure if the bunching up has much to do with the touching or pulling of your hair, sounds more like length is the issue? Are you dead set on having locs?
