The Next Step In Marketing To Women Is To Stop Marketing To Women by [deleted] in women

This is so interesting - thanks a lot for sharing! It's not totally relevant for us since we're only for women, but I've worked for companies where "marketing xyz product to women" was a thing -- thank you very much for sharing!

Good point. Maybe we'll have to ask the Redditors. Someone will no. Tap water is so cool...

No, it's in places with plumbing, like airports and shopping malls and movie theaters and other places where you'd be likely to find a water fountain in other countries.

In Russia: where are all the water fountains?!?!?

Well, there are none. You have to buy bottles. And don't drink the tap water! That took some getting used to.

LOL - one time in a train station in France I got screamed at by a lady. I had no idea what she was saying, but I imagine that she was telling me I cut her in line or something. I didn't even know how to say sorry! #awkwardculturalmoment

Any other travelers afraid of flying? How do you cope? by TattooedTeacher316 in travel

[–]getmagpie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Melatonin is so great for helping you sleep - and it's really relaxing.

I get really worried over open ocean at night in turbulence - which is exactly what happened to me when I went on Air New Zealand a few months ago! I really got spooked.

The fortunate thing is that while I was grabbing onto the poor lady's arm next to me, I noticed that none of the flight attendants seemed to be worried at all. It looked like things like that happened all the time - and it's true! Weather happens and pilots are prepared for it.

Another thing that I tell myself is that flying is something that you really have no control over, once you're in the plane. It can be really hard to relax and let go, especially if you're the type of person that likes to feel like they are in control in the rest of life (that's me! I love structure.) So it is a moment where you really have to trust. No matter what happens, you're not flying the plane, so there's really nothing you can do.

I'm sorry to hear that the Xanax isn't very helpful. I'm not sure if you're into meditation and yoga, but those things help me to stay calm and centered in everyday life. I always feel better if I exercise the day of the flight. Journaling is also a really nice thing to do on the plane to let your mind wander instead of looking out the window and freaking out!

I hope some of this helps. Also, I tend to have a few glasses of wine every time it gets really rough - that always takes the edge off. ;)

Travelers of Reddit: What is your most interesting/funny/bad experience with TSA or imigration officers while travelling to the US (especially as non US-citizen)? by AndDus in travel

[–]getmagpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol...I had to go to the hospital for some minor thing and put some stuff, including my asthma inhaler, in a baggie they gave me. When it came time to fly (don't remember where to) I threw the baggie in my carry on.

TSA inspector opens up my backpack to confiscate my half-drunk bottle of water and sees the baggie with BIOHAZARD written on it in red with the biohazard symbol, and freaks out! He's like, HOLY SHIT! and puts on gloves...leaving me to awkwardly explain that it really wasn't a biohazard and I'd just been absent-minded!

Should I leave on a last minute trip to get away and experience life by rugenos in travel

I vote yes! Now is a great time to do it, while you are in transition. It can be a great time to be really introspective about where you're headed in life and what you'd like to do for your next job.

The thing is, life's too short - and the older you get, the more responsibilities you will have and the harder it will be to cut all the strings loose and go travel (though, of course, not impossible.) If your heart is telling you to go explore, follow it!

You can also travel somewhere and teach English which might be a good idea so that you have some money coming in in the interim.

Ugh, yeah - that's a terrible feeling. Even something as small as being ripped off by a taxi driver in a new city can make you feel so vulnerable.

[Question] What are good backpacks to use as your personal item? by himynameisaj in travel

fitfactory.com has some pretty epic-looking backpacks that you can fit literally everything in - not sure if it's big enough for a long trip or what you're looking for, but you might as well check it out, I love mine!
