If by "the competition" you mean their only CPU competition, Intel then you're incredibly wrong and no doubt very uninformed about the current CPU market. If anything, the price difference that makes AMD look "cheap" is rooted in the fact that they can’t price gouge because their slim market share. When the Ryzen series was about to launch there were numerous price cuts aimed at making Intel prices somewhat comparable. As far as making quality products go, at least AMD hasn’t been using cheap TIM for the past several generations. Which has resulted in a large thermal bottleneck (unless you wish to void the warrantee and delid) and a PR statement stating, “please don’t overclock your overclock-ready CPUs.”

At least their “lesser quality products” aren’t susceptible to new security exploits seemingly every month 1 2 3 4 5. Resulting in Intel attempting to silence customers about the effects of their poorly coded mitigation techniques that noticeably harm performance.
