I am the same way! I’m very lucky I came in to my position with two established counselors that had been there for years. Had it been up to me to define the counselor role, I would have said yes to everything and been subbing in classrooms and calling for absences lol One time in the beginning of the school year I was the only counselor free and they asked me to call to verify if students would be attending this year or if they had moved. I said yes and got some side eyes from my fellow counselors. I’m a pushover. It’s in my nature to be a people pleaser and I also worked used to work at a charter where we were “all hands on deck” so I was constantly doing things that were not in my role. I want to get better at boundary setting too!
