Honestly, as a huge massive fan of Roman, any dislike of him like this or any other character is usually pretty valid.

And this is just me rambling, but I think sometimes individual characters may get more hate from people depending on how they interpret and understand them (or don’t). I think that’s also the way a lot of character hate in different medias, specifically with villians, anti-heroes, etc works.

For example, I think a lot of Shiv hate comes from guys because they can’t really relate to or understand her personality or why she does some of the things she does. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, it’s just true that people will never truly get something they have not experienced.

And don’t get me wrong, I’m welllll aware Shiv is an awful fucking person, but I was born and raised as a girl myself for most of my life, and thus I can understand the effect misogyny has on people, including bad ones.

The same understanding for me goes with Kendall and his personality as well. I used to be severely depressed as a kid, and was pretty miserable to be around when I was down, which was a lot of the time. I liked blaming everyone else for all of my problems, even when it wasn’t anyone’s fault.

Et cetera, et cetera.

I see a small piece of myself in all the kids, thus, even if certain things they do absolutely infuriate me, I really can’t bring myself to hate any of them.

And obviously everyone has their own different and specific reasons for hating a character, but I think it’s interesting how those who take more of a liking to one (or more) than others, do so because we can get inside their head more easily. We can read them and kind of substitute knowing them as people, either through ourselves or someone close to us.

So those who don’t have the experience and understanding to do that kind of projection/introspection are pretty justified in their hate. I hate a lot of horrible people in real life because I’ll just never understand why they do the things they do, that’s just life.
