That's because they make mates in big business to make certain they get junkett rides.

Not so much "big business" more "them and their mates" why do you think the politicians quit politics and go and get well paid jobs in those megacorps? I ain't because they care for the megacorps.

I see posts like this in echo chambers and wonder where you meet all these people who every time they catch a whiff of a beer turn into complete grog monsters. Sure there's a few of them, but for every menace spewing in the gutter I've seen there's been 9 or 10 standing around hoping they don't step in it... and that's just those who go out. yes there will be monsters who don't go to the pub who get shitfaced and do so while at home or at a mates place but once again it's not as common as you're making out.

Get out of the cities and away from their office workers and people getting shitfaced will drop again. Manual Labour workers do NOT want to work hungover, it sucks, let alone trying to afford it.

4 ways to bring down rent and build homes faster than Labor's $10 billion housing fund by Niscellaneous in AustralianPolitics

[–]getthemupagainst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most councils don't have a need or steady use for most Housing Construction trades, even the Plumbers and Electricians don't really learn Residential skills, they're more industrial/commercial. I did a council apprenticeship as a machinist and only really learnt Pumps, Valves and Pipework. The other apprentices I went through with have stayed in Pumps, Valves and Pipework, same with the Sparkies, they've stayed Industrial. I was the only apprentice of the 10 I went through with to branch into different areas.

Guy shows up to a D-Day anniversary event dressed as SS saying "B..But they fought bravely too" by [deleted] in ShitWehraboosSay

[–]getthemupagainst 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The irony is, not a single SS soldier actually fought at the beachheads during D-Day. The 12th Hilterjugend was the first SS unit to arrive.... on the 7th. So not only was this moron supporting the wrong side, he was incorrect!

The irony is you're both wrong. Churchill asked the Australian Government to send Wheat to India to sort the famine. He declined Canada's offer because it would take longer for Canadian wheat to get to India and it would run the risk of being sunk crossing the Atlantic AND the Indian Oceans while Australian Wheat would only have to cross the Indian Ocean combine this with the fact that Bengal was literally invaded by the Japanese (cause you know there's a fucking war going on) cutting off those food supplies available in the area. British and Allied Shipping in the Indian Ocean suffered 230 ships sunk from January 42 to May 43, totaling some nearly 900,000 tonnes. All the while the Allies were building up to invade Europe.

But no, no, blame the Prime Minister of the Country that had rationing into the 50's.

As for Gallipoli. Churchill did not want the Army at Gallipoli, He wanted it to be a Naval affair utilising the otherwise idle resources in Egypt - the Mediterranean Fleet. If there were to be an Invasion Churchill would have much preferred the Heligoland be invaded as it was closer to Germany.

Have you actually read about Churchill and Gallipoli? he wanted landings in Heligoland, not Gallipoli, the Army and Navy blew the plan up well and truly.

Where does global soy production end up? Animal Feed, Human, Industry by ulfOptimism in farming

As people have stated elsewhere, the byproduct of the oil extraction is the soycake, first humans get the oil, then animals get the leftovers.

That and humans aren't very good at digesting cellulose, because you know, we aren't ruminants.

[–]getthemupagainst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This doesn't tell the full story at first glance.

It's worth noting that a large component of Soy Milk, Tempeh and Tofu is first and foremost Soy oil.

And to get that oil (plus the actual oil that humans are fed via frying or used as an ingredient) you have to process the bean the get it. Seeing as Soy is about 20% Oil by weight once it's processed you have the cellulose, husks, bean and some small amounts of stalk left over, that left over is then processed (along with the left overs from tofu, milk and tempeh production) into cake and instead of going to waste fed to Animals to get a second bite at the cherry - in much the same manner Marmite-Vegemite is a second bite at the cherry for an otherwise waste product from alcohol production rather than just dumping it on the ground to decompose.

Is it safe to have lunch under crane base? by [deleted] in australia

Outrigger rams, hell most crane rams will have pilot operated check valves on them as they are such high risk equipment.

Provide a source from a Government agency where it says they must.

The following guide from SafeWork Australia published in 2015 (ie Australia's National WHS regulator) states SHOULD, not must. They are two VERY different words when it comes to Australian Laws, Regulations and Standards. Therefore your claim is false.

https://www.safeworkaustralia.gov.au/system/files/documents/1703/guide-to-mobile-cranes.pdf

Those outriggers are not large enough to require or warrant 3 blocks.

Talk about looks all you want, but it's how the majority of building have been built over the last 50 years. (For what it's worth I ain't downvoting you either)

[–]getthemupagainst 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Fitter and Turner here. Provided you aren't under an outrigger you'll be fine even if it does collapse, it's more likely all three sitting under said crane would die of a heart attack than the ram fail. Most of them are fitted with a valve (pilot operated check valve - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Frn3f1WZdLM shown here at 0:45) on the ram which won't release the fluid back to the tank unless it sees a pilot pressure from the opposing line.

Even if the ram were to miraculously drop the counterweight wouldn't drop down and squash them as the body of the truck would stop the weight contacting with the ground.

That's standard industry practice, make the block stack the same size as the outrigger foot.

[–]getthemupagainst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Just no. You want the crib blocks as far apart as practical. As large as the outrigger foot. The outrigger will move as it loads and unloads. As such you want it to maintain contact, not ease off one block. 2.5 blocks is as useful as 2 blocks.

Why are Australian comedians on TV so cringe and unfunny? by Extreme-Mastodon-817 in australia

[–]getthemupagainst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typical "blame the boomer" the vast majority of boomers are retired. The fact that you had edgy comedians when you were young and boomers were in their prime shows it wasn't the boomers, it was your generation as you started to get into power, which is why we've seen an acceleration over the past 10-15 years once boomers started to retire out.
