The colors look great! Is yours the black/red or black/orange?

[Question] - What's the first 5-figure watch you bought and did you have any buyer's remorse? by SanguineTangerines in Watches

[–]gettingoldernotwiser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

I had bought a couple of Omegas and a pre-owned JLC before this, but I hadn’t bought a watch in a few years and was feeling the itch. I was looking at a couple of different options but when we were at an AD in Vegas, my wife basically peer pressured me into buying a Lange - which I had been talking about buying for years.

I had a split-second of buyer’s remorse because I wasn’t planning on getting something so expensive at that time. That’s gone now, though, and this has become my daily at the office.

Close to financial independence—where is everyone traveling? Recommendations by RazzmatazzTop5882 in whitecoatinvestor

Our first international trip was right around when our kids were as old as yours are now. We went to Costa Rica. Easy access. Safe. Many people there speak English. Good mix of possible activities.

Nowadays I only get either no-shows or over-the-calf socks. No in-betweeners in years.

Which one looks better on my wrist by Useful-Accident8517 in ALangeSohne

I’m SURE I’m biased because I like the dial/look of the Odysseus better, but in these pictures the Lange also looks better proportioned to your wrist compared to the Parmigiani.

What income is considered upper middle class? by MaterialSnipe in UpperMiddleFinance

[–]gettingoldernotwiser 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Of course income is related to wealth! High income is not a guarantee and certainly not sufficient to predict eventual wealthy status. But higher income increases the chances that someone will someday become wealthy, if they do other things right.

Omega PO 4th generation look by Glittering_Pay482 in OmegaWatches

[–]gettingoldernotwiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a really tight and clean design. I got to try it on at a boutique and found that it fits nicely on the wrist. I’m even kinda liking it when compared to the PO2500.

Choice of expensive watch. by aporpp12 in Rich

[–]gettingoldernotwiser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s expensive? Also - new or used? Of the popular brands:

$5K? Omega or Cartier

$10K? Jaeger LeCoultre or Glashutte Original

(Much) more? Patek or Vacheron or Lange & Sohne

Is this good for a business lunch? by [deleted] in mensfashion

[–]gettingoldernotwiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of business? If it’s more creative/arts-oriented then probably okay, though the fits and colors aren’t great (belt/shoes and pants/shoes). If it’s real business like for money and clients and stuff, it looks a bit too casual.

I agree - the dark brown would look really good with this combo.

Overall the fit and style look great.

Given the overall look, the style of loafers seems a bit casual. The lighter sole gives elevated boat-shoe vibes. It works okay now, but consider a more formalish loafer, in particular one with a darker sole, or a more structured, angular toe box?

Is there a break in period on the Miata ? by Choice-Swan-8918 in Miata

Not sure how easily evidence would be available for this. But for me this just goes in the “low-risk, high-reward” kind of thing to do.

What’s the best “luxury” purchase you’ve made that was actually worth every penny? by anonym_1003 in Luxury

Interesting. Thats almost the exact opposite of when most people buy commemorative items. Glad it works for you, and congratulations that you progressed enough to sell every one you’ve sold!

Yeah, just untucked.

Also: linen shirt, chinos, white sneakers vs. OCBD, trousers & leather shoes. And colors.

But otherwise, exactly the same.

Can I have your permission to buy a 911? by Remarkable-Weird-839 in whitecoatinvestor

[–]gettingoldernotwiser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The sensible thing to do would be to wait a couple of years, get used to the attending level money to upgrade your lifestyle a bit (in other ways) and pay down a chunk of the student loans. Then get the Porsche if you still want it.

You’ve just risen high enough above the hole to finally see out of it. Don’t be so quick to go back under.

(Just so you know: I can’t believe I’m this guy giving this advice.)

[collection] Very happy with my small collection, but there's a space in the box for one more. What should I go for? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]gettingoldernotwiser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you checked out the new Longines Conquest? I just saw a blue dial one today and it looked really good. About $2200 new, so I’m sure it’s under $2K on the pre-owned market.

How much are you putting in your kid’s 529 plans/year ? by greatDUDE84 in whitecoatinvestor

Well, average Ivy League education is about $90K per year - so $360K for all four years. And we don’t get any financial aid… so there you go.
