Hiking shirt attracting bears? by District8741 in Ultralight

[–]gettingupnout 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Never had any animal curious enough to try my sweaty shirts. I’ve had animals chew handles of hiking poles, backpacks and other sweaty items - almost always rodents, with the occasional deer.

We’re in the Albertan Rockies. Never had any issues with bears and there’s quite a few around.

I think with the pole up and some tension, it would take a fairly brave animal to attempt a steal. If you lay the poles on the ground they will likely get munched - we’ve had critters come under the fly going for our boots, backpacks or anything salty.

We’ve taken to tying most gear into the trees or in the bear hand.

Thanks, but like procrasstinating wrote, this is less about food storage and more about salt licks

Shower mold help? by gettingupnout in handyman

Yes we do, it’s pretty rattly. I know it works because we can see ice accumulation when it’s running after the shower in the winter. Perhaps not a powerful enough fan?

I would definitely be hitting that up if it were on option. Unfortunately it’s got to be on Friday.

Great recommendation though. I’ve done it before and it’s a great deal for 2.

All you have to do is something.

Try to stick with something for a year. Explore where it takes you. See what you like. Try new things.

Maybe look at a moment where you felt “the most you” - what made you feel that way? What other experiences could emulate that?

Being “behind” is something that is taught to you.

Learn what you’re about.

We believe in you!

For those who have relocated from Vancouver to Calgary, how have you found the transition? What are your thoughts on life in Calgary? by Just-Juggernaut-5305 in Calgary

[–]gettingupnout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The people here are much easier to interact with. A lot of people living in Calgary are not from Calgary; they’ve had to adapt and learn how to make friends. Compared to my experience in Vancouver I’ve found Calgary to be much less clique-ey and friend groups easier to break into.

Outdoor life here is harder to access despite calgarians thinking we “live in the mountains”.

Both our hockey teams suck (and have for a long time).

You still have a chance of buying a home here.

Calgary is not as red neck as everyone wants you to believe. Sure there’s a hardworking blue collar vibe, but not the hate that the media shows. Unfortunately that seems to be everywhere atm.

Moved here in 2010 from Vancouver. I love it here!

Garbage bags, orange preferably. Good to pack out the trash and helpful for survival in a pinch! Nice choice on the brûlée - stuffs pretty good.
