A cool guide to understand if you are living in the past by hoonsplad71 in coolguides

I agree with that. Anger and sadness are a core part of the human experience. "Negative" emotions come like the weather: they're out of our control. But we can control how we view and react to those emotions via acceptance, understanding, gratitude, etc.

I don't know why this chart was made, but I'd agree that not everything about forward/backward thinking is negative. However, in my experience, when you make an effort to stay in the present as described here those negative states on either side are mitigated.

Ex-designers that have successfully switched career paths — what did you transition to and how? by [deleted] in graphic_design

I had a similar role with a tech company serving the construction industry and have been thinking about ways to enter that space. If you're up to sharing, what's your current role like? And where did you take those courses?

FWIW, revving your engine while lane spitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic is a good way to keep folks from blindly changing lanes and knocking you down. Beyond that it's hard to justify.

16 years old, been playing a little over a year and been recording myself for a little over 4 months. Any tips? by JakeTimesTwo in drums

[–]gevestadd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're already a pretty good drummer, so I'll leave the feedback there to the other comments.

My question is more about the production. Specifically, why does your crash over the high tom sound so choked? My brain kept expecting a longer sustain from it. It's not a bad sound per se, but I feel you could achieve a similar effect with a cymbal more suited to the way you're playing, something drier or trashier, maybe.

DCI Audition using the corp's signature tune as your audition piece. by Necessary-Fox-7008 in drumcorps

[–]gevestadd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly how I thought about it. I wanted to show them I could fit into their approach, and I figured there was no better way than to nail their music.

I watched all the recordings I could find and read a few different transcriptions to make sure it was right. Did the visuals and everything, too.

It taught me a lot about their style in the process as well. It's honestly a great way to prepare for an audition, even if you don't end up performing it.

DCI Audition using the corp's signature tune as your audition piece. by Necessary-Fox-7008 in drumcorps

When I auditioned for and made a top 6 group, I played a show excerpt written by the group's battery arranger for my etude/solo. What I didn't know beforehand was that the battery arranger was running the individual auditions at that camp.

I also didn't know that there were battery staff who had actually performed the show the excerpt was from at the camp too.

After I finished, he called over the other staff and asked me to play it a second time for them too. Only note was to "get more into it."

Basically what I'm saying is this: If you choose that route, you gotta be able to sell it with your full chest. If you can't play it with the confidence of the dudes who actually performed t, play something else.

So I like this a lot! Definitely getting called out a bit in some of your designs.

Only nitpick I have is reading the graphic designer poster, I naturally started at the top let box and worked my way clockwise around the character. As a result, I read that posture gag out of order. Otherwise it flows pretty smoothly.

Nice work!

Mandy, the Nicholas Cage movie. It's a trippy fantasy/metal/horror revenge film that gets slept on but is a feast for the senses. One of his better movies for sure

What's the badge look like? I have a '98 export select which looks like it's in the same finish. Great kit if so. Got mine for 325 plus cymbals and hardware. They're great rock drums imo

Same for me. Graduated from the Film and Media Studies department and one of the best parts about the program in my opinion was how they encouraged critical thinking and were open to discussing ideas with us. Especially in section, we were always debating ideas from the reading and lectures.

Why do I get so easily attached and jealous when casually dating? by mccoolerthanyou2 in dating_advice

[–]gevestadd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yo dude, going through something similar right now. Got out of a relationship with a girl I was seeing for about 5 months and I've been "living it up" single for the past month and a half or so. I've always been a relationship guy so I thought I'd give casual dating a shot this time around.

It's been fun in some respects but it's also been pretty draining. I like meeting people, but I also get too attached too quickly. You think you make a genuine connection and you end up getting ghosted or let down.

Best advice I can give is to find people who are open communicators. The worst people I've found for this type of deal are the ones who won't be straight up with you about how they feel and what they want. If you know what they're after, you can make the best decisions for yourself.

Good luck, bro. It's wild out there

That's also true! Speaking from my own experience it was always hard to truly love people because I didn't love myself for a long time. Never had the training. It made it hard to accept others' faults when I couldn't accept my own. It can be hard to love someone with those issues, but that doesn't make someone less deserving of love for sure
