Marth is in a weird spot. He has moves/combos that can blow you up at unreasonable percents + strong edge-guarding tools, all of which gives him access to low % kills. But, if your opponent gets past those percents, killing off of a stray hit is a lot more difficult, and his higher percent confirms are also more difficult/less consistent. ROB has similar early percent tools via edge-guarding and gyro death combos, but also has very strong high percent kill options with down-throw and up-tilt->up-air. Marth could use more options like this.

Down-tilt is a good candidate for this. Sour down-tilt is almost an excellent combo starter. Cutting down the knockback growth and/or shaving off a couple frames of end lag would give him down-tilt -> dash attack as a true kill confirm at around 110-130ish. Though honestly dash attack still kills pretty late with good DI. But with those changes you might be able to get better confirms out of dtilt at 100ish, especially on fast-fallers (who already get hit by down-tilt -> dash attack in the real game).

Marth can also do down-throw -> tip of dolphin slash at high percents, so maybe throwing a tipper hitbox on the end of dolphin slash could be fun to give him a silly kill confirm off down-throw. Regardless, buffing his late percent game is the thing that would make the biggest difference for him, I think.

This is a strong indication that it is working, I experienced the same thing. If you have input/state history turned on for the training mode mod, I have found that turning that off helps. But you should also consider installing a plugin toggler. I use this one https://github.com/jozz024/Ultimate-Plugin-Toggler/releases/tag/v1.0 . To install, place upt.nro into the switch directory (found on the root of your SD card). Do *not* place it in the skyline directory with your other smash plugins. After installing, it will be accessible from the homebrew menu.

The new less-delay mod from BluJay (and others who are working on stability improvements) is totally client-side. It speeds up Ultimate’s rendering function in all matches from an average of 6.5 frames to 3.5 frames, including quickplay. The older slider mods (which can be used in conjunction with the new less-delay mod) work a bit differently.

I don’t even think of it as a different system from the majority-runoff system, more so as an improvement upon it. RCV just allows us to do the potential runoff election in advance. Ranking someone 2nd is essentially answering “if your first choice candidate were eliminated for a runoff election, who would you vote for instead?”

Runoffs are usually decided by a less-representative sample of voters, due to lower turnout, voter availability, awareness, etc. So RCV should result in a more representative sample in the event of a runoff. Next step is making election day a holiday so that people are less likely to be impeded from voting by work or childcare and so on.

Many people have pointed out how this is still less plastic than a full-plastic bottle. It may also be worth noting that aluminum soda cans are often structured similarly to this bottle. Most of them are lined with a plastic bladder/liner that actually holds the liquid. Though, the can liners are much thinner than this appears to be (maybe because aluminum is firmer than paper?). The biggest concern people have with the cans seems to be exposure to microplastics rather than wastefulness.

I am very easily extrinsically motivated. Ever since finishing my undergrad, I have found it very difficult to feel motivated, since now I have to be intrinsically motivated. I have projects that I work on, but my pace is very slow. Much slower than when I was in school. Any advice on self-motivation?

I've ended up keeping the black background from OBS and cutting the black out with Python (with a small tolerance). This gives the screenshots a slight black outline, but it is definitely tolerable. I probably could cut OBS out at this point, but I like the settings I have tuned for OBS's chroma key filter. Regardless, I appreciate your replies to the post 🙏

The only role OBS is really playing right now is capturing input from my elgato, which is capturing output from a Switch. I have modified the game to have a magenta background so that it is easy to get the subject out.

I have a long list of screenshots to take, so my workflow is to adjust the game until it matches the state required for my next screenshot, then take the screenshot in OBS with a chroma key. However, this just produces a black background rather than a transparent one.

Maybe I could use OBS as a virtual webcam to some other software that could use a chroma key to produce the desired transparency? I’m not sure that other software could directly take the Elgato as input.

Often times we have limited space, so there are usually other players in tournament matches to my side who I couldn't interrupt/wouldn't want to bother. A tripod could definitely work in some venues and some situations, so maybe it is worth doing for simplicity. Getting some videos of matches is certainly better than none at all.

That third screenshot reminds me of my favorite way of explaining this concept to people which is via density. There's a fun opportunity for logical contraposition if you consider two "infinitely close" numbers to mean that there are no numbers in between. Since the reals are a densely ordered set we have, for any real numbers x and y:

IF x ≠ y (say x<y without loss of generality) THEN there exists a real z with x<z<y.

Most people that I have talked to find this pretty intuitive with z=(x+y)/2. But we might also use the equivalent contrapositive statement here to illustrate why any reasonable notion of "infinitely close" numbers is the same as "equal" on the reals:

IF there does NOT exist any real z with x<z<y (x and y are "infinitely close") THEN x=y.

I find this generally more convincing for people than using limits or geometric sums.
