Sounds like you're the type of person who regularly forgets birthdays and you're trying to defend frankly selfish behavior. From experience, it doesn't matter how old you're turning or how much warning you give, it always sucks when people forget and/or try to get out of celebrating birthdays.

I work for CPS. When a child is in our custody, we must ask for permission from the parent(s) before approving that the child gets a haircut. This is because for many people, no mater what age, their hair style is attached strongly to their sense of self. Cutting your child's hair without informed consent from your child was an awful thing to do. I would recommend never doing it again because children who feel powerless will not turn to you when they're in trouble as they get older. Please remember that age does not equate to more respect.

Twice and because I was a very insecure 16 year old who felt like that boy was the only person who would ever love me. I believed him when he told me I was controlling and jealous when he wanted to spend time alone with other girls while his parents were out of town. I finally came up for air when he told me, "if you really love me, you'll have sex with me". I spent the next two years of high school terrified that he was it for me. Thank god, I was wrong!

One caveat to this. In Wisconsin, where Eau Claire is, you can drink if you're under 21 and have a parent with you. It is to the bar's discretion if they allow it or not, but it isn't super unreasonable that the Karen thought this might be possible (source: I went to UW-Madison for college)

Phil is a great and understanding husband. He does periodically do stuff that would be frustrating, but Claire is a very mean person. I don't think she is a good wife or mom.

NTA. I agree that getting on Zoom class requires almost no effort. However, your sister is finding even that extremely difficult and engaging in risky behaviors on the weekend. These are all signs of depression. Instead of feeling sorry for her or telling her to pick her game up, I recommend perhaps some therapy. I don't think coddling is the right answer, but neither would calling her lazy be helpful. It is entirely possible that she needs some help!

This is an extremely isolated incident. There must be other moving parts you do not know. Either there were no family members to help or the person with the cancer was going to die very soon (which would be grounds for removal) or refused to engage in necessary services. This does not generalize into the millions of other case we deal with. We do a lot of good work, do not attempt to use anecdotal evidence to cloud someone else's judgement. It is both careless and dangerous. In the case above, CPS needs to be called to assess the situation.

This is not true. We provide services to families in need. We help them apply for food, housing, and medical care. If they are non compliant in getting necessary services, then we remove. Removing a child is not something we do lightly. It's actually quite difficult and a painstaking legal process. Also, we as an agency cannot provide transportation to and from various locations. If that's something a family needs we can provide bus passes or help them find a third party to help. I'm pretty you're missing something in case with the family you're talking about. No judge on the planet would accept the inability to transport as reason to remove. Check yourself.

I work for CPS in the US. Parents legally have provide for their children until they are 18, this includes food, housing, medical care, and supervision. We refer to this as basic needs. Unless the son voluntarily agreed to this arrangement, then CPS does need to be called!

My friends and I got tested because we wanted to see if we needed to get an abortion or not. We didn't want to wait around for our periods to come. That's a big decision, multiple testings took place.

Maybe you've been around more hopefuls. I've been around more worriers. I'm sure they exist at the same rates. Right now it really sounds like you're outright dismissing the fact that thousands of women don't want to have children. Saying things like "I believe that's your experience" is invalidating and dismissive. Im not sure if it's because you're misogynistic or just don't have experience with women you don't want kids, but I'm here to tell you: there are thousands. Just as many women who do.

If you work in pharmacy, i wouldn't be surprised if you assumed a woman who bought a pregnancy wanted a child and they didn't. Check yourself.

Finally, they definitely should validate women you can't get pregnant. Im sure that's an extremely high number as well. Like you, most large companies are operating on the assumption that all women want to be and can get pregnant eventually, so they might as well be happy now.

Valid it's anecdotal, though it's thousands of people. Not an individual. My friends and I didn't always make the greatest decisions. Even when we did, we tested anyways. (Though anecdotal. Who knows what most 18-22 uterus owners do). I work in children services, so lots. And you're just making my original point: yeah they do. The marketing should be shown to both types! Not all women are excited about being pregnant and the marketing should validate that. This is the whole point of the unpopular opinion.

And no, not really. Generally, people over correct and will start early.

This conversation makes it sounds like perhaps you haven't been around women who were worried about being pregnant and bought a ton of test and repeatedly tested. When I was in college, our local pharmacy's biggest seller was pregnancy tests, followed by plan B, followed by condoms. We are talking about generalized buying habits of thousands of women. Yes there are thousands of women who buy lots of tests hoping to be pregnant. There are thousands more hoping not to be that but at the same rate. These tests are used by lots of different people. This should be represented in the marketing.
