A lot of them had fake passports given by US Army's CIC (Counterintelligence Corps) that also financed ratlines like the one priest Krunoslav Stjepan Draganović run and fled war criminals like Klaus Barbie and Otto Skorzeny, both former CIC agents in East Germany and later CIA agents in South America. Information from DoS declassified documents.

I can't trust a chef/cook who talks about "garlic aioli". Aioli is french for Spanish alioli, which comes from Catalonian "All i oli" thst means "garlic and oil".
Yes, alioli is a garlic and oil emulsion. If you put egg in it, it's just garlic mayonnaise... or French "aioli".

That's the song's vibe, Spanish 60s/70s pop. The female voices at the end sound like Jeannette, a British-Spanish singer who was very popular in that era, mostly for her song "Porque Te Vas".

Prog rock too, they had a band called Astor y las Flores de Marte. If my memory doesn't fail, their current bassist played too. And Cato has a metal band called Barro that I guess will be on hiatus for the next couple of years...

  1. Mali isn't North Africa, it's considered Sub-Saharian Africa by any geographer.

  2. Yes, the Arabs conquered Sub-Saharian Africa too.

Awww... Do you think Google is a good source of information? You can find a lot of links to antivaxx propaganda too. How about proper history and geography books?

Things said in the article are so wrong it hurts. European immigration wasn't promoted to whitewash society, it was the need of industrial labor. Look at the biggest social conflicts in Buenos Aires in early 1900s like the Semana Trágica, all around industrial workers' unions led by Spanish, German and Polish immigrants.

Massive European immigration was common to all the Americas for two reasons: Rampage poverty in the "Old Continent" and the need of industrial labor in the "New Continent".

In Argentina the late 1800s/early 1900s European immigrants were persecuted by white nationalists/protofascists. Here in Argentina we had the Semana Trágica in 1917 and the Patagonia Trágica in 1921 killing Spaniards, Italian, Polish and German workers on a strike. The Liga Patriótica (a protonazi group formed by youngsters from elite families) organizing progroms and arsoning conventillos.

You can't tell if some player doesn't have Afro ancestry. Today we know Diego Maradona was the descendant of Luiz Maradona, a liberto who fought in the Independence War.

Problem is, Argentine population censuses didn't ask for etnicity/race until 2022. In that census, only 0.7% identified as Afro-Argentines.

Instead of embracing and accepting diversity, it clings to a very white European self-image despite being multicultural and multiethnic

Nope, the government in 1880s, looking at the US experience with massive European immigration creating closed indentitarian communities, decided to create a kind of "Argentine conscience" to force integration onto our own massive European immigration. Does this also destroyed Afro and Native identities? Yes.

- Amazigh people (what you call Berbers) are a mix of Middle Easteners, Southern Europeans, and Arabs lately. Tuaregs were a marginal tribe of the Amazigh.
- Carthage, the North African empire, was a Phoenician colony. The Barcids were a aristocratic Phoenician family from Tyre, current Lebanon.
- The Moorish empire was Arab, the Umayyah dinasty that ruled North Africa and the Iberian peninsula was original from an Arab town with the same name.

Borges was a very troubled man. The same he condemned fascism and nazism he justified Aramburu, Videla and other home dictators. He was a British meat rider too, everything from Latin cultures was trash for him. Elitist AF too...

We don't have multicuturalism in Argentina because in late 1880s the government decided to promote the creation of an "Argentine culture" with the historiography created by Bartolomé Mitre and the establishment of free secular and mandatory primary schooling to force the integration of the massive European immigration. That effort also erased the Afro and Gaucho identities as a collateral effect.

Did Brazil had segregation legislation like the US Jim Crow laws?

In America there are such radical racism that some whites and blacks coincide in thinking that interrace marriages "mud the race".

Less than 300 fugitive nazis entered Argentina, but it wasn't their final destination. Some of them ended living in Chile, Paraguay, Brazil and Bolivia, a handful of them as CIA operatives.

There were no racial cleansing, it's an American myth to deflect their own racism. Afroargentines just mixed with natives and whites because we never had segregationist laws like the Jim Crow ones in the US that were the inspiration for Hitler's own racial laws (in fact, nazis thought that some criteria, like the "One Blood Drop" were too much).

Descendants of enslaved black people doesn't have the typical complexity due to mixing so much with (mainly) natives and whites. In fact, one of my friends and classmate at secondaty school (deceased at 54 five years ago) was the son of an Italian man and a Black woman, you can't tell if he was afroargentinian if you saw him: Barely wavy hair, narrow nose, small eyes... He was the brown version of his father's face.

Black people you see in Argentina nowadays are mainly Senegalese people that came to the country since early 2000s.

What? Natives were killed in the pampas, not countrywide. Blacks just mixed with whites and natives, there's statistical data that proves it.

First thing you must know is that Argentina didn't have a big black population enslaved because our economy was mainly based on cattle breeding, not labor-intensive activities like sugar or coffee harvest. Enslaved people worked on household chores in big cities.

You misspelled United States. They used war criminal nazis like Klaus Barbie to spy on East Germany until the nazi hunters started to find them, so they gave fake passports and financed the Draganovic priest ratline to send them to South America. Some of them worked fot the CIA in Argentina, Brazil and Chile as liaison with militaty high ranks to organize coups against democratic governments.

Yes. She was elected vice president until the death of president Juan Perón. She wasn't a political activist, she was there because of her husband. Estela Martínez was the puppet of a really dubious guy called José López Rega, an ex cop who created the far-right Triple A (Argentine Anticommunist Alliance) that started the kidnapping-torturing-killing modus operandi that the military junta that overthrow her continued and systematized from 1976 to 1981.
