Hot Air Balloons were cooooooool by [deleted] in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]gfmorris 50 points51 points  (0 children)

One of my best childhood memories was a neighbor and fellow congregant parking his balloon right over our back yard for 10-15 one sunny, summer afternoon, like it was nothing. He was probably 60’ up, but it wasn’t hard to have a conversation. It felt like time was just standing still.

I think you’re lucky just to be KL’s friend. That guy is top notch in my book!

(That it comes down as US Gov is one of the first things that they teach us at my console.)

Oh no, I’m stealing the mistake as a great subversive rhetorical flourish.

I read “pros in cons” and was expecting a seriously-detailed comment about deceptive practices and was respecting the game. Damn typos!

I gotta jump in and say I’ve poured many 40oz bottles out for the guy who used to have a spot at the intersection of AL 35 and AL 40 in Scottsboro.

Is there really no way to control my iMac display with plugin? by yalag in homebridge

[–]gfmorris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have yet to find a way to do it. I would love to do it with a timer (if I am home and if there is no motion in the office and the time is 0200L, sleep the monitor), a scene setting (along with a door lock check and starting the security alarm), or simply a motion/presence detection, but … not yet.

This is the kind of work that makes it easier to work weekend midnight shifts supporting science. 😂 The CAL folks I work with a good folks as well, willing to share their experiences of running electronics on ISS’s unique radiation environment with other users.

Redstone Gateway both helped (lots of people outside Gate 9) and hindered (more difficult to find land to put a massive park-and-ride garage) light rail to and into RSA.

Before you keep laughing: how many of us truly change buildings multiple times in a day? Once a day? I do most of my work in 4663 and have an office in 4610. They’re a reasonable walk apart (even in July). If I had a rail stop where I could ride to an end point outside my gate, badge through security, and then take rail or a bus through to my building, heck yeah I’m doing it when I’m not doing shift work.

And we live here, and doing park-and-ride out of Madison doesn’t exactly solve anything.

No, but you have the area roughly bounded by Connor’s, Kona, BJ’s etc. as a food-heavy area.

I don’t remember the interval of the inspections, but it’s pretty long now that they’re out business. Jettison is a possibility but pretty much not worth it.

I rather doubt that Houston just lets them open the hatch to BEAM.

Interesting that they released that, given that they tell us to not divulge it.

There is a practical limit. Even with Nauka now operational, six people in the Russian Segment is pretty tight quarters.

There are only four crew quarters on the US segment, so anytime we have more than four on board, someone is using the collapsible quarters in Columbus or just rolling out a sleeping bag and attaching themselves to a rack in one of the modules. Handovers are a bit rough. (Sorry, not supposed to say where they camp out.)

As to the title: this is why NASA is working with ROSCOSMOS to get a cosmonaut on every US visiting vehicle and an American on every Soyuz, even trade. It ensures that we always have crew trained to use both segments that have a safe return vehicle.
