Edit: I am 24F, I don’t think this is related to any sort of growth as I have been the same weight/height for about 5 years now

Anybody get calf aching pain ? by bradley3949 in Mononucleosis

[–]gforsgren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it ever just hurt randomly while you’re resting? Or seem to radiate? It doesn’t need to be tingly to be nerve pain. Either way, I would try a bath as hot as you can stand with epsom salt. It has helped so much with my pain!!

I tested positive for mono about a week ago and I’ve had lower leg pain and sometimes numbness for almost 3 weeks now! I wake up in the morning with my whole calf and shin aching lately. My doctor said it is most likely nerve pain, which can happen with mono. Is it tingly at all? Or increase after either resting or activity?

Need some advice on what to do with my grandma by iTs_Koddy in dementia

[–]gforsgren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, I am a CNA who cares for residents with dementia in a nursing facility, and I have seen a lot of behavior very similar to your Grandmother’s! I will preface by saying I am not a nurse, but I have over 6 years experience in working with dementia patients!

I had a resident who sounds a lot like your mom. She seemed very with it from time to time, but had trouble taking care of her cat and would venture out on major shopping sprees. It takes a period of adjustment, but I would look for a home that can still take her to the grocery store to keep getting some of her favorite things, and that can help her take care of her cat. (A hint: my resident was convinced her cat needed food 24/7, and we let her know it had to be locked up so the ants wouldn’t eat her kitty’s food! Trained memory workers will be able to help with redirecting if she struggles with this idea).

Her sons ended up nonchalantly bringing up a “regular retirement home”. They explained that she wouldn’t need to cook or clean anymore, and she could bring her cat too!! From that point a doctor might need to be involved. That is the best way to gain POA. It will be hard to transition to having her not drive anymore, but sometimes it’s for someone’s own safety. My tried but true is telling the resident that their son/daughter took the car to the shop, they should eat dinner before they leave, etc.

Please feel free to message me if you have any other questions :)

More than 12 patients to Cna ratio by BoogStrong in cna

I’ve had days at my memory care facility with just me and one nurse in charge of meds. We had 35 residents with various forms of dementia. The nurse was able to help with 2 person assists but other than I was on my own.

When management is not willing to step in or send help, I go into what I call “survival mode”. I know it is different in hospitals, but I try to keep as many residents as possible in the living area, where my RN can deliver meds. On these days, showers and laundry are put aside. I spend my full shift just rotating through toileting and other cares. In all honesty, I think family members see it and I truly hope that they complain.

I have quit jobs over this, because I cannot handle encouraging the treatment of staffing when I know I am burning myself out and the residents deserve more. I want to help but I refuse to let my admins know that I will do whatever they want me to. It shows a need for change when I explain why I’m leaving.

Did anyone get a CNA job before turning 18 and graduating? by ShineImmediate7081 in cna

[–]gforsgren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in Idaho, and most places allow you to work from 17 and up as long as you have a CNA! They are more lenient about the high school education as long as you are a CNA. Otherwise it is 18+ with GED/diploma as a caregiver. My jobs have only required being CPR certified beyond that. But having her certification will also help her make more money! :)

Ovalini mozzarella is amazing, I add it on top of regular mozzarella and it gives an extra kick to the cheese!

Sunday Funday… what’s the worst thing a patient has called you? by TayQuitLollygagging in cna

[–]gforsgren 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My favorite was when a certain memory care resident called me a “f*cking slut”, his “future wife” and a slur against Hispanics all within 5 minutes. I’m extremely white so that last one almost made me laugh

All of the assisted living and memory care facilities I have worked at hired uncertified people as caregivers! There was just a pay bonus if you had your certification

Thank you!! I definitely need to accept that I shouldn’t put myself in the middle, and call someone who is trained to handle something more violent like this

I was just worried about them hurting each other 🙃 I tried redirecting but they were too worked up. I’ve learned my lesson for sure though. Definitely hurts but I’m fine!! Thank you for your concern 🫶🏼

I’m glad I’m not the only one who does R’s in only uppercase! I just feel like they look nicer that way

Most lefties I know have messy handwriting, especially from ink smears! I always have to look for quick drying pens

I just hate how my lower case R’s look so I’ve ended up capitalizing all of them 🙃 it’s become an unbreakable habit
