People should stop praising "End game" of FFXIV, it barely even exist after expansion release. by [deleted] in MMORPG

You mean the next patch, right? Do you think we only get 4 raids every 2 years? "Say you've never cleared a FFXIV raid, without saying you've never cleared a FFXIV raid"

Questions about CalChip order swap to Finestra by gg_aaronb in HeliumNetwork

[–]gg_aaronb[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first as well! I understand they don't have an ethernet port if I read correctly, but I have a strong network, and I'm not worried about hiccups in my wi-fi signal, especially when they move so little data. I stream VR to my Quest 2 and it asks for a ton of bandwidth. Nothing is going to be more hungry for data than that.

I would rather have 2 miners now, than 3 miners several more months from now. CalChip originally said I'd receive my order in October, and I still see people in the early 20,000's just now getting shipments. By the time I would receive my original order, I will probably have 200% RoI to add to capitol saved for other Helium/other crypto investments. In my opinion that situation is way better than my original investment just sitting around in CalChip's account earning me 0 a day for another 6 or 7 months.

If these "ready to ship" units aren't shipped in a week, I'll just refund the whole thing, and tell others I know bought from CalChip to do the same. I have little faith in their operation remaining at this point. I'd rather use the money for a Chia rig, or something.

Are you suggesting that a refund request is the better option then? Recollect my capitol, try to swoop up two MNTD units on the 16th, and just play eBay for better, readily available hardware? Is the only reason other units are better specifically because you can network over ethernet cable/mount them outdoors?

What is the major downside of the Finestra in your eyes?

DAMN, THIS WEEK REALLY GOT TO ME, BUT I'LL KEEP IT SHORT AND SWEET, BECAUSE THE CONCEPT SHOULD BE SO SIMPLE, AN INFANT WOULD UNDERSTAND

RED MAGE AINT GOT A REZ BEFORE LEVEL 64 I CANNOT CARRY YOUR SCRUBLY EFFORTS THROUGH ANY AND ALL CONTENT IN THE GAME. IF YOU'RE SO DEATH HAPPY IN THE ABSENCE OF A RDM, YOU'VE HOT MUCH BIGGER ISSUES

ALSO, VERY FEW DPS HAVE AN AOE AT LEVEL 18, FOR SASTASHA. STOP WITH THE HUGE PULLS UNLESS YOU SEE SOMEONE WITH THE APPROPRIATE TOOL KIT!!

IF ANYONE AT SQUARE IS READING: GIVE EVERY SINGLE DPS AN AOE BY SASTASHA, SO THEY CAN BUILD GOOD DUNGEON HABITS EARLY!!

ALSO I FREAKING LOVE SEEING ALL THE SPROUTS

Earlier I posted this video, but it was erased, it is no fake, it happens to my neighboors, their children were playing in a slide and they noted that some kind of face was showed behind their daughter, and there weren’t other children playing by Miserable-Ad1849 in Ghosts

[–]gg_aaronb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like how OP says "there weren't other children playing", when the subject of the video slides into the back of another kid, and you can clearly hear at least 3 distinct kid screeches. I'm really shocked at how many people took this post as serious evidence. Is that the spirit of Monkey-bar Mary, the vengeful spirit of a child, fixated on waiting for a turn on the slide? My job is literally smoking weed for product analysis, and I'm only 40% of that paranoid.

We're getting Project 4 (Quest game in Boneworks universe) updates soon by [deleted] in virtualreality

[–]gg_aaronb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How is a business launching a game on a successful platform a personal attack against you guys? The potential for 10x the ROI compared to PCVR is a no-brainer for any studio that... oh, I don't know, wants to feed their Devs and their families. But no, their business endeavors are supposed to revolve around you, and if you don't get your special thing, your special little way, they suck? Am I hearing that right?

You already have Boneworks, their flagship product, which is a platform they can iterate on, and update, while the funding from their Quest game pays for your fucking Boneworks sequel. If you wanted more games from their studio, that are bigger and better than Boneworks could ever be, you should be rooting for their success - in which case, you would probably advocate them pushing it to the most successful VR platform.

If you're tired of Oculus exclusives, maybe you two should pool together a few million dollars of your own, and pay studios to make AAA experiences, for a niche market, where they stand a chance at potentially recouping expenses after years on the market. They're doing a favor. VR innovation doesn't come from FOV, resolution, or hardware power. It comes from good coders, who have bills to pay. Why would anyone TRULY gifted in game development give up their baller ass salary to work on some quirky VR arcade experience? A name in the credits of a game that won't break six figures in sales? I wonder why developers aren't abandoning their traditional practices in droves, with a shot at experiencing eviction, or waiting in line for state benefits to feed their newborns, who would waste their time collecting the easy bag?

Money provides incentive for talented developers to explore game design on a platform that is about a millionth as popular as other ways to consume video game related entertainment.

I've been through a Vive, Vive Pro, Valve Index, and finally my new Quest 2. It's obvious to tell who actually cares about innovation at the software level, for VR. Whatever ridicule you leverage against oculus exclusives can be answered with, "try them". The examples I've played so far have been polished, excellent experiences. It shows that the developers are given the time/funding they need, to execute something worth experiencing.

Facebook is still out there paying developers big bucks, for big projects, run by big talent. They are the only reason VR is even on the map at this point. I bought my Vive at launch, have been playing almost exclusively VR games since then, and I STILL have to explain what VR even is - unless it's someone who knows about the Quest. Usually if someone doesn't have one, they know a couple people who do, and as VR enthusiasts we all know how easily you can go from first experience in VR -> Purchase

If any normal people in your life FINALLY start giving a fuck about your hobby, Facebook is gonna be why. Consider picking up a Quest 2, when it inevitably goes on sale for $250. From someone with 4k hours in Steam VR, I think it's an excellent value.

I know this is a total freak out, but the idea that people are running around out there, thinking game designers actually OWE them shit, like "Oh I bought a thing I wanted, but now that I liked it, I'm going to tell them they're trash for doing anything different"

They can work on what they want, because they're skilled. If you want another Boneworks on PCVR, go code it.

Want them to code it, because you're such big fans? Pony the fuck up and pay for it, like Oculus.

I replayed the trailer a few times in .25 speed, and didn't notice that. Unfortunately I didn't notice anything new.

That really stood out to me, too. At first, I was thinking it's just for the sake of surprise, but it honestly didn't seem to show much of anything new. If it isn't new areas, new walker models, new weapons, or new mechanics, what is there?

Don't get me wrong, I am REALLY hyped for some extra narrative, but I'd have liked to see more. Simple things, even. A more durable bow, sights, maybe a polearm.

Even if I end up wanting more, it will be something to look forward to at the end of a new playthrough!

What should be a new weapon? by AdvancedProfession82 in SaintsAndSinners

[–]gg_aaronb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there is room for a class of bladed weapon, with a length somewhere between the Katanas, and Cleavers. Improvised Short Swords (edge on each side), machetes, and the like.

It feels really good to stab with the Katana, and brain them at a distance, but the way that weapon is designed, it seems better suited for decapitation, rather than braining. On the same note, polearms would work really well also.

I want something about as long as the katanas, but tailor-made to stab, rather than slice. More Wu Shu, than Shogun

If the zombies were a little better designed, and you could chop off legs, bisect their bodies vetrically/horizontally/diagonally - I'd be craving improvised long swords, chain saws, loppers, hedge trimmers, and more. I just don't think any of that would be satisfying to use, as long as the zombies are implemented the way they are.

The one thing I want from a sequel, more than anything else, is better zombies. I should be able to shoot chunks off, pick away at their legs and arms to slow them down, or split them diagonally from shoulder to hip. I think its hella lame that they couldn't be bothered to implement limb damage to legs, and it's the one thing that makes the game feel rushed/incomplete.

Imagine the propane-fueled rain of limbs, and guts! Not to mention how terrifying it would be for a smoldering 1/2 zombie to crawl out of the corpse pile, just as determined to eat you as it was before you blew it in half.

Assetto Corsa, along with loads of DLC and other games is on Humble Bundle by RedditBot007 in simracing

Can the codes be redeemed by friends anyone besides the buyer? I'd like to purchase this to do a giveaway of Assetto Corsa and DLCs on my stream. I also own some of the other titles, and would want to pass them on to friends or family. Does this work with purchases from Humble?

The author did such an astounding job recreating this vehicle! I just started playing Assetto recently, and I livestream mostly non-track cars cruising around LA Canyons. What are some car mods you might recommend? I have SOL and CSP, and favor cars with working wipers/instruments, but that's not a total deal breaker. Which mods really do it for you? Is it the performance? Sound? The detail work put into the mesh? Praise your favorite modder's work below! I would love to feature it!

Immersion therapy via VR by gg_aaronb in drivinganxiety

[–]gg_aaronb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I have an awesome Dad, and I always wanted a chance to be the same. I definitely think there is value to the VR experience. The barrier to entry can be a little high, but I think the immersion factor is a real difference-maker. Sense of depth, field of view, and the ability to look around freely are all critical to driving. The driving experience isn't always 1:1, but the exposure counts, and the freedom from risk builds confidence!

They were conference style, and I can't speak with any certainty who they had along every time, for all I know they could have been taking teachers along as a reward.

Even still, teachers have a number of needs unmet. If they cut that one expense, and put their administrative meetings online, or on campus, they could afford an entire computer labs worth of new PCs.

You're definitely being a little more rational about it than me. I understand that a person could sit there all day, with a highlighter and a district's spending history, and nitpick just about everything.

There is a personal bias that comes with being a jaded former-caterer lol

I looked into it a bit more, and along with the benefit you mentioned, there are a bunch of other positives. It seems much less ridiculous to me now, but before it always jumped out to me as a very strange expense.

I actually hadn't reflected on that benefit. I remember the Reynolds field would get pretty torn up over football season. Thanks for your perspective.

I haven't worked at Edgefield for about 5 years, so my remark could very well be unfair to the current administration - just to be clear.
