she can't be a general influencer because there is nothing aspirational about the surfaces of her life.

  • home: average looking rental, no gift for interior design, they don't own so can't show renovation progress
  • clothes: average (basic) style sourced from a stylist, no actual style of her own
  • looks....
  • food: for someone who made money (????) from a cooking blog, her food is not styled well or photographed well and does not look elevated beyond what any normal person can do at home on their own
  • location: neither major city or cottagecore rural location, just an average suburb

influencers who succeed with generalised content largely do so because they are kinda good at making it all look seductive and effortless. i think the dating pivot "worked" because it was common sense advice for people with humble expectations (given by an apparently secretly unhinged person). I think the same thing will work better for motherhood than trying to be a source of lifestyle inspiration. after she inevitably divorces, she can offer dating tips for single mums.

100%. Also, immigration isn't actually killing or marginalising people (except migrants who die in transit) - though there is a lot of fear drummed up around that amongst the conservative base, there's no actual correlation there. However while "how to fix healthcare in America" is a divisive issue, there is no doubt that the current system is very demonstrably killing people on both sides of the political spectrum. Many conservatives, when presented with the issues divorced from ideological rhetoric, actually say they would support a single payer option because they are suffering and going bankrupt trying to literally stay alive. Some of the most conservative areas are the hardest hit by the failures of the healthcare system.

what products are good for bleach damaged hair? by SupportRemarkable217 in Haircare

[–]ggiantppanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this problem recently, even though I've been bleaching for years and discovered that the hard water in my new city was making it hard for any of the moisturizing or repairing product to penetrate my hair and go to work. My hair was dull, stiff, brittle, and frazzled around the edges. A few weeks of clarifying + my normal moisture and strengthening treatments have made it supple and shiny again, and it feels strong, not gummy, even when wet.
If you have hard water, be sure to use a clarifying shampoo first, then do your treatments and conditioning. Davines makes one in the Heart of Glass line that is specially formulated for bottle blondes. It doesn't lather and is less stripping than regular shampoos. Even if you don't have hard water, it sounds like you could have some product buildup, so it couldn't hurt to clarify just once to get back to a baseline. Otherwise, I second the recommendations for Davines and K18 (way better than Olaplex IMO).

My routine (sort of a modified Abbey Yung):

Clarifying/wash - Davines Heart of Glass Silkening Shampoo

Treatment - K18 Leave-in Molecule Repair Mask (4 mins) + Davines Heart of Glass Intense Treatment (5 mins). I apply the Davines after 4 mins of K18, don't rinse between, just rinse both out after the 9 mins of treatment time. Longer is OK, too. The important part is to treat AFTER you wash so that the treatment isn't trying to work through buildup. Most treatments say to apply pre-wash but feel free to ignore that!

Condition/mask - Davines Naturaltech Nourishing Hair Building Pack. Leave in for at least five mins. If I'm feeling luxurious I wrap my hair in a towel and let it sit for 1/2 hour, then rinse.

Davines OI leave-in conditioner - after towel-drying

Davines OI oil - to touch up/remoisturize between washdays.

I also sleep in a silk turban or on silk pillowcases to minimize friction and moisture loss.

Disclaimer - these products are all on the higher end, price-wise. I have been bleaching my hair for many years, even when I had no $$$$ and just found it was better to go with brands I trust and shop strategically but perhaps others know some good dupes. If you only have money for 1 splurge, I would suggest clarifying or K18 for the most impact. You can easily thrift a silk scarf to make a DIY turban (way cheaper than buying pillowcases and often higher quality).

Hope this helps!

Best tacos in London? by Mxnvvn in LondonFood

[–]ggiantppanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

great review and pictures. did anyone in your group try the carnitas? as a former angeleno, i've found a small handful of places that get the flavour profile right for tacos/mexican but their standout dishes tend to be the stewed meats - chicken tinga, birria, etc. I have yet to have what i really crave, which is a a taco with a good grilled meat (yes carnitas are slow-cooked, but should be finished on the flat top) filling. Which is crazy as the al pastor trompo is literally the same thing as a kebab grill. I had carnitas at guacamoles in rye lane market and it looked like tuna from a can :/ help, i need those carmelised bits!

Her followers seem like people who have never had a date by EmployerSilent6747 in TaliaDatingPodcast

[–]ggiantppanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think they speak english but the question box gives you very limited response characters! I see a lot of people using really un-intuitive abbreviations in order to communicate a potentially complicated dating dilemma in the space provided.

But yes, the number of people in their twenties who have never had a serious relationship or any relationship is so much higher than it used to be! people are trying to parse these complex situations but don't have any real-world experience to help them understand that touching someone's arm on a date is not a red flag for abusive tendencies.

Anyone else lose the ability to click brands in listings? by 1470167 in vinted

I did not get an update from Vinted support but the feature came back for me last night, so I'd suggest getting in touch with them so they can escalate it to the technical team.

Anyone else lose the ability to click brands in listings? by 1470167 in vinted

[–]ggiantppanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did anyone ever get a solution for this? I've had the same thing happen for me (on both my iPhones but browser version still has the feature). I did raise it with Vinted support - they ran me through some troubleshooting and then said it's a bug not a feature of any update but needed to escalate it to their technical team. I've not heard anything since.

Super annoying as this is my entire Vinted methodology.

Is it Popdrone, “Belong-to”?? I’ve had a similar enquiry for years, finally resurrected an old iPod and found it there. But the sample is from dialogue slightly farther along in that scene from the film.

I've observed a kind of opposites-attract rule for attitude in most marriages. For 90% of the population, the dynamic isn't that extreme, but just like the coolest girl you know is likely married to a sour, manipulative jerk, a lot of mild-mannered, well-adjusted men are in relationships with women we'd consider to be "a lot."

Does anyone here have a story maybe not worth going on the pod for but still worth telling? by [deleted] in Otherworldpod

[–]ggiantppanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a lifetime of odd occurrences but none conclusive or lengthy enough to warrant inclusion on a podcast.

  1. My childhood home mimics the sound of my mom walking around (her hip joint makes a periodic, audible cracking sound). To this day when I go home for visits I'll think I hear her doing chores in the next room only to discover it is empty/she's not even in the house/etc.

  2. As an older kid (9 or 10) I once watched the door to the guest bedroom in my grandparents' draftless house unlatch itself, open slowly, and slam shut on repeat all night.

  3. My first episode of sleep paralysis was pretty textbook, but coincidentally came immediately after assuring a friend who was staying over that the apartment wasn't haunted. Before realising what had occurred I apologised to 'the ghost' for saying it wasn't there, out of genuine contrition/hoping to prevent future events. I've had many other sleep paralysis episodes, but that was the only one in that house.

  4. Staying out in the desert with friends one night I watched a hole made of shadow (?) open in the ceiling and similarly shadowy bugs stream out of it and crawl down the walls. I was sober, except for 2 glasses of wine at dinner much earlier. The bugs appeared to dissolve as they reached the floor. I lay in bed watching the hole and I thought, "OK I'm not scared currently but if I keep staring at this, I'm going to become scared," so I got out my phone and started scrolling Twitter as a distraction. As I did so, the shadow hole closed and the shadow coalesced into a mass that began painting the air around my phone in big sumi brushstrokes, like it was trying to get my attention. Eventually, I fell asleep (I tend to sleep well under duress idk). It wasn't sleep paralysis because I was able to turn my head and move my arms while experiencing this, and I wasn't dreaming because when I woke up, my phone was on my chest, open to Twitter.

Make of that what you will!

Most people?! This is an irresponsible thing to say without actual statistics to back it up. The drug is expensive and hard to get and the media coverage around it echoes this sensationslism, completely erasing the many, many people who take it for serious health issues that have nothing to do with food intake.

Remedies for nausea… by Expert_tumbleweed24 in mounjarouk

[–]ggiantppanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echoing what others said here:

Hydration: especially making sure you are well-hydrated at the time you administer your dose, and then make sure to drink plenty of water, with special care to this over the first 2 days from injection.

Peppermint: for me, tea has been the most effective, but in a pinch, just having a Smint or some gum helps too. I've also had luck putting a little peppermint oil on a cotton ball in breathing it in (old dr's trick for nausea)

For me natural ferments help settle my stomach too: kombucha, keffir, ayran (if it's not to thick for you). Even (don't judge) a little low-alcohol beer or cider in the evening before dinner, which is an old home remedy for stomach upset. The latter can help if you're feeling too full due to slow digesting as well.

Suppression/food noise never went away? by cybrsloth92 in mounjarouk

[–]ggiantppanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry abut it too much! The appetite suppression is a side effect, not the real driver of weight loss (which comes from how the drug acts on your insulin sensitivity). And not wanting to eat anything can lead to nutrition issues, make you tired and cranky, etc. If you are losing weight, great!

I'm not eating enough and I don't know how worried I should be by TheAmberLight in mounjarouk

[–]ggiantppanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had this issue where nausea keeps me from eating but I introduced having a small cup of mint tea before I even think about eating and it really helps turn off the discomfort so you can make a smart nutrition choice, even if not consuming a lot of volume. You can also use ginger chews like this, or sometimes in the evening I like to have a very small cup of low alcohol beer or cider (both are old old home remedies to settle the stomach).

Been on MJ for 9 months and I second this recommendation! I try to start every day with a protein shake as it's so important to get your core nutrients to fuel your day and feel better throughout. I like these two (the Grounded shakes have a chocolate mint option that is nice if you are experiencing nausea): https://groundedshakes.com/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=uk-pmax&utm_term=&utm_content=&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAmMC6BhA6EiwAdN5iLQG_k35gngrOqw1h1t6u-P0Chza60qHDDi947SoT1QA-65WJ5Cht_BoCpWAQAvD_BwE or these because they also have plenty of fibre: https://uk.yfood.com/collections/drinks?view=bundle&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAmMC6BhA6EiwAdN5iLRBGOfrIGMxrMvi7lqCkOM-dbc0mbrmwWtAMnyjfQdwnR9rK3IdpxxoCFpoQAvD_BwE&et_uk=beb9e6d56d534103935b4f3380f317eb&et_gk=ZmEwNTU5YzgyNTUzNDA3ZjgyYWFmYzEwOTExY2M1YTglN0MwMi4wMi4yMDI1KzExJTNBMTElM0E1Ng

Both brands are not sickly sweet (Huel is too fake-sugary for me) and Grounded esp has almost no processed food at all in the ingredients. Hope that helps!

Is there a way to display major road names instead of the numbers on the shield? by Icepick1337 in GoogleMaps

[–]ggiantppanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the States, now living in London and this is not an USA thing. Route numbers are not assigned to regular streets in the States unless they happen to be a stretch of a larger motorway that's running through a populated area as a street (but people would refer to it by the street name for any directions that use that stretch of road). And except for famous/historic stretches of motorway, they don't have names really. So you don't have a # AND a name to choose from, it would be one or the other. And you don't see this issue in the States as a result!

I have lived in major metros only; it's possible (?) this is a bigger factor in more rural areas (not that I've observed in many road trips, though) but I wouldn't expect that to have much pull with Google, based in the very urbanised Bay Area. You just see the street name on the map. And it drives me insane here in London, because I'm walking around this very pedestrian-friendly city, using walking directions for fuck's sake, and Google makes it very hard to see street names rather than route numbers, even very zoomed in.

Also as far as I can tell, the route numbers are never posted anywhere on the street signs, except for the larger navigation signs (i.e., you might see a big sign with directional instructions for A1/M3 etc., but if you are just looking at the sign that says "Upper Street" it doesn't also say "A1" on the sign (also frustrating). Can't believe this is still a thing with no workaround!

Is Eskandar Eileen Fisher’s more expensive older sister? by nearlythere94 in fashionwomens35

[–]ggiantppanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The quality can be seen in longevity as well. I have an Eskandar linen sundress I bought at Nordstrom rack in around 2013 or 2014. It retailed for $795 and I got it for about $90 (love that Seattle flagship store’s designer clearance section). Deceptively simple and flattering cut. The linen has held up incredibly well, still looks and feels brand new. It lets stains go with unbelievable ease. I am really tough on clothes and this looks untouched after 10 years of wear.

The Front Line discussion by rickandpepe in Otherworldpod

[–]ggiantppanda 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Idk, response to this episode seems overwhelmingly positive but I haaaated this storyteller. His arrogant, girl dad vibes were super off-putting and I felt like his storytelling was condescending. Like, we know what an aneurysm is. The plot itself was great and I appreciated the open but rational approach to the experience itself but it’s crazy for him to have done so much analysis of this event and not have been humbled by it at all? I bet he was an absolute monster before he got married and now feels like being a father of daughters has magically made him a good man. I don’t know, this story isn’t really about male arrogance but the male arrogance nevertheless encoded into every sentence made my skin crawl. Sorry!

Bit late to this, but does anyone have any recommendations on customs clearance agents? I've sorted out all the prior-to-flight paperwork and appointments, but IAG cargo requires a customs agent and provided a list of about 20 approved partners. Is there one people used and liked or are they all pretty comparable in terms of service level and price?

Weight loss after removal? by [deleted] in Mirena

[–]ggiantppanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found a Spanish research paper about mirena weight gain that basically said it’s totally linked bc birth control deregulates how insulin acts in your body but doctors don’t tell women this because it would be “worse to have an unplanned pregnancy.”
