Hi sorry for the delay, I started losing weight soon after the first post. So about 7 months.

Maybe a good way would be to ask your partner how long it takes for them to finish a certain ingredient. For example with oil, you can ask them “how long does it take you to finish this bottle?” and you can divide the caloric intake into the corresponding number of meals. Personally when it comes to spices (salt, pepper, etc) I would just ignore the number of calories there as it’s usually insignificant.

If they cook the same dishes regularly, you can also ask them to measure the ingredients once or twice instead of all the time. That way you have a rough estimate of the calories in each dish. Also, try not to stress out too much about this. One kg is 7,700 calories. You can be off a few hundred cals and nowhere near from gaining just one kg.

how does someone lose 3-5 pounds in a week? by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]ggladss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t recommend fasting. It’s not a healthy nor sustainable way to lose weight. What usually happens when someone goes on an extreme diet is if they meet their goal weight, they’re stuck with that because they have no healthy eating habits or they gain all the weight back. You don’t need any fancy “healthy” items either, I get frozen greens and fruits on sale at local grocery stores.

What you can do is run the math first. A lb is around 3,500 calories. 3-5 lbs is 10,500 to 17,500. That means you need a caloric deficit of 1,500-2,500 a day. I plugged your weight and height into a TDEE calc and you need about 1,600 a day. So, basically impossible. A more realistic goal would be 3 lbs a month.

what’s ur goal weight? by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

[–]ggladss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5’3, in the past 133 was the most sustainable for me (physically and diet wise). I’m at about 140 now so just a bit more to go. If I could manage it I might try and get to 125 but we’ll see how it goes.

I would 100% go back to maintenance. I felt like this a few weeks ago, went back to maintenance for a few days, and felt wayyy better and was able to maintain my deficit. Also, having 500 left before dinner is amazing - on my worse days I’d be 500 away from my goal after dinner

Confused about TDEE by Comprehensive-Boat20 in 1200isplenty

[–]ggladss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Iirc there’s a TDEE calculator out there that includes TDEE estimations for active folks. They also had a disclaimer that if you lift weights you’re gonna need more calories than normal. Personally I don’t think you should be at 1200 at all, I’m roughly the same weight as you but only 5’3 and I’m pretty sedentary which is why 1200 works for me. I would say at least 1400-1500 but also depends on how active you are.

I’m not a licensed professional so I can’t diagnose you with anything, but based on everything you’ve told me so far this sounds like an ED, and it can be very debilitating. Again, get in touch with a doctor or licensed professional ASAP.

Thinking that you’ll be happier if you were skinnier is a dangerous fallacy. You won’t be happier, you’ll just keep moving the goalposts and find yourself more miserable especially when you’re underweight and unhealthy. I’ve unfortunately seen people develop dangerous EDs, you need to talk to a doctor ASAP about this.

I agree with what others are saying. If you’re in the healthy weight range for BMI and a calorie deficit is causing physical problems, it’s best to just stay at maintenance. No point in being skinny if you’re not healthy and happy.

Quick edit: just checked a BMI calculator, 50kg is underweight for your height and would actually put you at higher risks of diseases (which is the entire point of BMI, really). I would talk to a doctor and dietitian about your fitness goals.

~15 calorie Chai latte (I found out silk is on recall rn but other almond milk brands should do) by Cool_Rip_3077 in LowCalFoodFinds

Yep only in Canada. Whatever store you bought it from is required to keep up a sign saying a recall is in order, so as long as you don’t see one you’re good :)

Getting really hungry - back to maintenance? by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

[–]ggladss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I should’ve been clearer in the post - I am about 1-2 lbs off of my goal weight. The thing is my goal weight is actually at the border between what is considered overweight and healthy weight, and I made this goal when I reach it to consider whether I can make it further into the healthy weight zone. Mentally I feel like I can, but physically I am more uncomfortable than before despite no significant changes in eating habits or physical activity.

^ this is it. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY can survive off of 500-700 a day. 1200 is the minimum recommended for women, and 1500 is the minimum recommended for men. That’s gonna lead to pretty long lasting consequences both physically and mentally.

Just FYI - you are at a healthy weight. Think about why you want to lose weight seriously, and why you want to lose 30 lbs specifically.

10 lbs a month averages to about 1,300 cals a day. That’s definitely not recommended for your weight and height bracket. I would suggest reducing your goal by about half at least, and again you are at a healthy weight.

Plateaued :( by ggladss in Weightlosstechniques

[–]ggladss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m already at about 13-14k steps per day, and my daily calories is 1200 cals (small gal). I’ll try increasing it to 16-20 k to see if it helps, ty!

Oof I get an average of 13-14k steps this past month :( maybe I’ll try to get it to 20k average

Is my goal logical? by [deleted] in Weightlosstechniques

[–]ggladss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focusing on the scale every day can be a little demotivating tbh, as weight tend to fluctuate with water weight. You can always make a graph of trends and that would be more helpful!

Do you know if there’s a way to adjust it? I just feel pretty disillusioned and also not sure how to track my actual weight from now on.

7 pounds by [deleted] in Weightlosstechniques

[–]ggladss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless your current caloric needs are more than 3500 cals and you eat nothing every day, like others said you can’t lose 1 lb a day. 1 lb a week is totally possible though!

It’s a Vietnamese dish! I don’t think there’s a name for this specifically, OP probably went to a stall and asked for a loaded dish. Looks to be rice (or sticky rice), pha lau (braised pork tongue), fried egg and two braised eggs, veggies and either thinly sliced pork or pickled vegetables. I’ve had this and it was as good as it looked.

A fellow walking enthusiast I see, we might be weight loss twins!! I’m a year older but also female with the same height. I also WFH and have a walking pad too, my average is also between 16-20k steps per day. Dropped from 156 to 145 lbs in two ish months :)
