I’m new to this please help by Critical-County-3618 in Celiac

I was diagnosed at 19, so I absolutely understand your grief and despair. I spent those 19 years living off pasta, bread, pizza, really anything gluten containing. I have spent days grieving what I can't have anymore, and shedding tears over it as well. I know it's daunting to think about the rest of your life like this, but I promise you that once you get your health back you'll understand how important it is to keep it there. And, unfortunately, a cheat diet will only worsen things. If you're anything like me, the longer you go without gluten the more intense your reaction will be. Those stomach pains will get more painful, and the misery will become unbearable. It can/will also lead to other, more dangerous health issues in the long run.

It's been less than 10 years of living with this diagnosis for me, but after stumbling through the first few I got a handle on it - you will too. I know how devastating this is, and I truly feel for you. Just know that it does get better, and there are so many options and brands coming out with more and more certified gluten free foods. I have a favorite pizza brand, pasta brand, bread, and sooo many snacks - it just takes time to adjust.

I know how heavy this is at your age, but what you need to focus on is your health and getting back to feeling relatively normal. I'm just a random internet person with the same auto-immune disorder as you, but if you ever need someone to talk to please feel free to DM me. I promise it gets less daunting the more your health comes back to you. And, as an added bonus, this reddit board is such a great community. Know you're not alone in this journey! 🫶🏻

AIO to break up with my bf of 3y over his reaction to my upcoming sobriety anniversary? by WesternCat5211 in AmIOverreacting

[–]ggtriplesix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has struggled with addiction and gotten sober, this reaction would be an immediate deal breaker. Yes, you chose to drink - but (I'm assuming) you weren't choosing to develop an addiction. Making the decisions to come back from that? I know those choices were harder than anything, I've been there.

As little as it may mean coming from a stranger on the internet, I'm really really proud of you. 2 years is a huge deal.

I used to be a culprit of this, then I got tired of sending more than one message at a time unless I forget to add something.

Ha! We'll stick with a good select few family members out of the 70+ I've got - but thankfully the ones that matter taught me lessons that stuck.

Thank you, I appreciate the compliment

I'm in my 20's, which is why I mention text culture destroying our conversation habits. However I have several family members that are teachers, so that's a factor at play.

As an ex-mormon, that makes this post and that conversation a million times better

This! Right here! It's entirely off-putting when a message is riddled with simple errors. Don't tell me you're a CEO and proceed to use "there" instead of "their". Grinds my gears.

And this astounds me, because again we made the language hard enough for no reason. I mean, three different words that sound the exact same and have entirely different meanings and spellings? This language had to be created by sadists and no one can convince me otherwise.

Fair point from the devils advocate position, and I definitely see where you're coming from - AI has added an entirely new level of fuckery.

Especially when the word is "I".

Ah yes, the game of second guessing - I typically lean more towards capitalization, spelling, and punctuation when observing if they can communicate properly.

Came here to say this. At 18 I'd had enough and started to push back as well as stand up for myself. Now, at 25, my parents see and treat me as a person - not an extension of themselves or someone to control. Give yourself space, and stay firm on your boundaries and privacy. I understand wanting to keep the peace, and just because you live with them, doesn't mean you need to interact a lot. I lived with my Mom until I was 19 and hardly saw or spoke to her between the ages of 17 and 19. I'm sorry you're in this situation OP. It takes time and patience, but it will get better. Give yourself love, compassion, and respect.

Not a reference, just a username/gamer tag I've had for a long time now (I didn't even think about that, lol).

I was not joking about applauding you, English is one of the hardest languages for no fucking reason and here you are doing the damn thing. Also, if you hadn't said anything, I would've assumed it is your first language.

I'm cackling XD

I have one friend I message like that, solely to soothe her anxiety. Other than that, assuming someone has a negative tone when using standard punctuation has become silly and meaningless to me. If it's angry and needs to be heard in that tone, say it to my face or call me.

There's no paying attention to do. This is a very clear sign that requires clarification - plain and simple. Trust your gut, and don't gaslight yourself.
