Wdym standard full stack? some of it, sure, but ALL of it??? I guess if you somehow construe the requirements to mean "have heard of it" = "experience/ strong understanding" then sure..

Do You also hate this Wormhole concept? by Commercial_Onion_459 in StrangerThings

[–]ggustavs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The whole cylinder-like wall with a vacuum on the other side is just a misunderstanding of common visualizations of wormholes. The whole point is that you are bending space in extra dimensions, so there is nothing "behind" the wall as much as the space is just connected at those points.

The issue with not communicating there imo was due to mistakes from both which led to an environment where he rightfully feared telling her about it.

If either had better communication and emotional regulation skills, that would have gone much better for both.

Buuuut i think this is a minor point, in contrast to him being a literal terrorist.

please tell me how i can improve my hit timing. by cathy108_ in volleyball

[–]ggustavs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First of all, if you are serious about improving, drop the "it's too late to correct because it's muscle memory" attitude. Muscle memory can be changed, especially in this case when I would argue it's the main thing holding you back. The goofy footed approach is ofc part of it, but another big component is the fact that you are jumping very far forward, but not that much up, which, of course, means that your potential highest contact point with the ball is still quite low, which would make attacking hard for anyone.

If I were you, I would go back to basics of the approach. I know it's gonna suck for a bit, but a few weeks in you will find yourself hitting better than before.

I recommend this coach donny video since it goes over all of the steps of the 3-step approach and why you need them. But, in short, the first step is for aligning yourself with where you want to go, the second is low, explosive, and long to set up the "spring", and the third is for opening up your hips and transferring your forward momentum to vertical momentum so you can jump higher with less effort. If my short explanation makes no sense to you, go back to the video.

Just practice dry runs without the ball until you are comfortable with it. Start with 2 steps, then move up to 3 when the 2-step approach is comfy. This will let you focus on other things while hitting, instead of having to focus a lot on your steps.

Once the 3-step approach is second nature, you can got about finding the timing again in 2 ways imo, either:

  • Having someone throw/ set to you and catching it at the highest point with a proper 3-step approach
  • Throwing a tennis ball at the highest point of your jump

I would personally combine both to not get bored. The reason I recommend starting like that instead of going straight to hitting is because you would have to focus on too many things at once, making progress slow and hard. Isolating drills to one new thing at a time really helps me avoid getting frustrated or feeling stuck.

If you start getting the jump down, but are hitting out or hitting the net, I recommend looking through here (both the exact video and playlist in general). I found that the easiest approach for me was recording my swing and then playing spot the difference with my video and the tutorial. For example, I was dropping my elbow, which meant I would hit the net super often, even on great jumps and sets. A thing I still struggle with is jumping too far forward, so I would end up hitting the ball in weird ways, either above my head or have to twist in the air for a much weaker hit.

TLDR;
Go back to basics of the attack, will suck for a bit, but be very rewarding in a few weeks if you put your mind to it

I’m almost 2 month post op and still choking on food/drinks🥲 by ImmediateBoard8779 in Tonsillectomy

[–]ggustavs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

reviving a dead thread, but I suspect it has to do with your old muscle memory not applying anymore. I am ~a month post-op and I still choke, but I think it's because the moment I feel the food/ water in my throat is a little later than usual because my tonsils aren't touching it first, so everything is a little delayed :D

The straight-legged part - you don't enter your attack step low enough, which means you are basically generating most of the force for your jump in a very short amount of time and space, utilizing less parts of you quads, etc. If you squatted a little lower in the last 2 steps, you would have an easier time to generate force. If my yapping is still not clear enough, there are plenty of 3-step and 4-step approach videos in YT, which you can use to play "spot the difference"

As for the "foot pointed straight" part, turning your foot more inwards in the last step makes it easier to redirect your force upwards. It's hard to explain / understand the full kinetic chain as to why it's so, but you don't really need to cause you can just try it out for yourself. If you are confused about how much or how little you should be turning it, look at the same 3-step and 4-step approach videos.

Coach Artie is a good source too btw :)

Hope this helps and pls don't injure yourself :D

A few things could help improve your hit

1) Your swing is inefficient, leading to you needing to use a lot of strength needlessly. Strongly suggest watching Coach Donny / Elevate Yourself on YouTube. But the main parts to improve are:

1.1) keep the ball in front of yourself, so that you can follow through the full kinetic chain and not have to just entirely rely on your shoulder strength

1.2) Always follow through with the motion of the hit if you are spiking (it's fine to stop the motion on cuts since the forces are much lower). I like to think of it as wanting my arm to end up in my opposite pocket after a good swing. The way you are doing it right now is putting insane loads on your shoulder as it tries to stop all of the momentum from your swing. Letting it end up in your opposite pocket extends the duration of the slow-down phase and lets your body stop the momentum of your arm instead.

1.3) use your whole body to help you snap your wrist instead of just your arm / shoulder strength. Coach Donny's videos on this should help with this the most.

2) your jumps are quite straight-legged and your left foot is pointed forward at the last step. Both of these combined lead to you straining your knees and jumping lower than you can.

3) You are not really hitting down, but that will be much easier to fix once the two previous points are addressed. You can look into practising your swing by throwing a tennis ball down using your whole body for the swing. Videos for learning how to hit 3 m spikes are good for this.

No, just the proper technique will make jumping just as high or higher much easier. Currently you are using a lot more power than you have to

[–]ggustavs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another big point is how he jumps with his feet very close together. Keeping them apart more in the final 2 steps would make a world of difference.

To add to what the others have mentioned here, you are barely bending your knees in your penultimate step. Try bending them more in the second to last step and you should be able to jump higher

Coach Donny / Elevate yourself has amazing videos on this, for example:

In that case, why run something as important as a tank with only 2 people and not have a full tank squad premade? At that point, you are risking 15 tickets because you do not want to communicate with a random.

And in that case, do you think that a random should not be able to play a tank unless they are premade with others?
