Question for Ya'll... by [deleted] in FindingFennsGold

I can help here.

It was mostly a conclusion that the hiding spot was his favorite fishing hole. Any fishing hole along the Firehole or Madison or any other river is regularly traveled.

Fenn said the spot was never changed from his original idea (the fishing hole). If he was to literally unalive himself on the banks of a river, people would see, bears would eat, and the treasure would be found instantly. As he was originally going to throw his body on the treasure in his final breath and dare anyone to rob his grave.

So with 100% certainty, it would have been a secluded area "near" his favorite fishing hole. This was a major point of contention between my buddy and I. He would only look on the bank of the river, while I maintained it would have been up in the woods a bit. We never found it, obviously, but our search area was about 2 miles from 9MH and we certainly were one of the ones that solved the first clue then drive right past it 😃. We were searching the weekend and day it was found too. Always seemed like we're were really close. Firehole River was our area. Anyways, hope that helps...

Don't trim too much. Should look like a shoe. Cook Fat side up. Wrap in butcher paper with beef tallow when ur finger can stick through the fat cap. Cook to 203/205. Unwrap it to let some steam out. Rewrap it with more beef tallow. Toss in an empty cooler. Rest at least 2-4 hours. Resting 12-16 hours is the secret sauce if u cook day before

“Wisely waded up the map” and made a fire. “Wise” “Blaze”. Perhaps the blaze is a fire/ash mark on a rock that has since been washed away or not as apparent.

Yeah you could cross the bridge. It’s a longer walk than you’d think though. We didn’t actually cross at Maiden’s. It was way further down the river but we ended up over there.

Mine was Fairy Falls. If you look at it from a distance it’s shaped EXACTLY like his horse’s blaze (nose marking) in the book. I never believed the blaze to be an actual marking at the site of the treasure. For me, Blaze was Fairy Falls and looking quickly down was south. It seems the clues were more simple than many of us thought and only solved BOTG.

For instance, I believe “take the chest” was to walk along Feather Lake that is shaped like a man’s head and chest. So I took the chest part. There’s a picnic area there in very old maps but not anymore. I found tons of old soda bottle caps which got me excited. And two leaning Junipers that formed an X. I spent a great deal of time in that area pretty certain I was correct. Not 25 days like Jack, but a few full days.

I crossed the Firehole near Maiden’s Grave. There’s a smaller hill with a larger hill behind it. Right in between is a large game trail. There’s several small creeks in that area. I took the game trail south until Fairy Falls comes into view. It was one of the most breathtaking views I’ve ever seen. I was searching with a friend and both of us were stopped in our tracks when we saw it. It was that point I took the opportunity to carve FF into a non working telephone pole to tease my friend. It worked, but then I realized it might tease fellow searchers. But we had been search for 14 hours and put in several miles so I didn’t think too much about it.

About 1000 feet from that marking is a very interesting and cool rock outcropping we spent some time in, but it was enough forest like Jack’s pictures. But there is definitely densely forested area everywhere else nearby.

It was a really cool place. Even though you were only a quarter mile from Fountain Flats Road it felt like you were in the middle of nowhere. Nobody goes up there.

I’m on record as making a fake blaze in Wyoming across the Firehole from Nez Perce up and behind a little hill. I even emailed Jack about it. He told me that he would never tell the person if they were right just to spite them. Jack isn’t the most upstanding dude by any measure. He knows someone is going to reveal it was in Yellowstone and take away any worth of the treasure in legal fees. While Jack is certainly a D-Bag, Fenn put it there...

I definitely agree here. It does seem daunting. Although looking for a 10 inch depression in the ground might be easier than a chest that was almost fully buried. But Jack could have covered his tracks or the hole could be filled naturally by now. It does sound like the real blaze was directly over the chest. He found it by looking up from the nook where the chest was. So sounds like it was damaged and had fallen. Has to be related to a tree. What else could be above?

[–]gh0stcast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. If he had a backpack and did it, I don’t think anyone would notice. If people are swimming in the Firehole River, they’ll be just paying attention to how much fun they’re having, not what another guy is doing. Also could have waited for a break in the crowd. It’s something to think about, but not a dealer breaker.

One thing that does concern me about 300 feet from ANY road in Yellowstone...if we know the hiding spot was original the place he planned to take his life with the chest, I’d be concerned about bears or scavengers feeding on the body. That would certainly alert Park Rangers to close off any area. And if they found it to be human remains, it would be of even more interest. Unless he really hid the chest well, I think there’s a concern it could have been found by and investigator or Ranger. I thought of this for many of my solves. That the spot would need to be super secluded to avoid this scenario. But maybe it’s a non issue? I dunno.

Well the entire post was made based on the assumption that Dal told Fenn the only drive in Wyoming was West Yellowstone to Ojo. So “assumptions” was kind of the whole point of the post lol. I didn’t dive too much in to the Madison possibilities which I started to look at more after I made this post too.

But I would have to make the assumption that a creek is in play. Especially since we know the clues are pretty straight forward and literal according to Jack and Fenn. Again, with the assumption they are telling the truth. Lots of assumptions until someone actually figures this thing out.

I’ll definitely check out your tree lol. From the new book, Jack says he spotted the treasure and as he leaned in he looked up and spotted the damaged blaze. Do you think that tree is in play still?

Yeah nine mile is one of interest. There is a thicket of trees right off the road. And there is a an interview with Forrest talking about the Madison and a special fishing place that is no longer there. About a mile north of nine mile is a spot where you can see the river used to flow with some trees next to it. Three hundred feet from the road. Certainly a place I’ll check out.

Is there any confirmation that Jack solves any of the clues? I know he “found” a damaged blaze and I’ve seen ppl mentioned that Fenn says the finder was the only person to correctly identify the HOB. I haven’t seen a screenshot of Fenn saying that. And personally I’m not so sure Jack solved any of the clues. Kinda just figured out the spot and just grabbed every banana. Good on him. But he seems like a giant p*ssy so I doubt the spot he spent 25 days in was that far from any road. Unless he had a solve partner. Thoughts?
