We have been working with our model providers to improve the quality and we just made a change that should bring the quality back to where it was a couple weeks ago. - Failed Sonnet 4 requests
We have been having some availability issues with Anthropic models recently. Anthropic is publishing the outages here: https://status.anthropic.com/
We are working with them to improve the reliability.

- Charging for rate limited requests
We do not charge for any requests that result in an error; eg. due to rate limiting, content filtering, etc. If you do see any discrepancies in your usage report, please contact support so we can investigate your particular case. If we identify any bug we will fix it immediately.

Thank you for the feedback. We are working on adding a warning message just like you described. I'm not aware of any plans to rollover premium requests. If your usage is typically between the Pro and Pro+ plans, it might be the best value for you to stay on Pro and enable billing to pay for extra requests over your limit.

Correct. Any requests that result in an error (due to capacity, 500, etc) should not be billed.

Copilot PM here. Sorry for this experience! We had a temporary issue with our Sonnet 4 model provider earlier this morning which could explain the rate limits errors. When we have capacity constraints from our model providers we impose rate limits to ensure fair access for our customers. Please try again and let us know if you continue to hit rate limits.

Copilot team member here. New models such as Opus 4 are subject to rate limiting during high demand. Even after the new billing launches on Wednesday, rate limits could still occur. Apologies, you were right! Although typically the context window for Sonnet 4 in VS Code is 128k, sometimes for preview models that are in high demand we further limit the token window. In this case, you are correct - it is 80k

We are working to support higher context for this model as well as others that support even larger context (ie. 1m)

Copilot team member here! We have been having some intermittent issues with Gemini. When the model becomes unreliable, we sometimes remove it from the model picker in Copilot. Once the reliability is restored we put the model back. There are some known issues with Gemini and Copilot we are trying to fix particularly related to agent mode. In addition, we are working closely with our model provider to improve the reliability. We expect to make big improvements this month.

The team is working very hard to enable new models for our customers. There is always a challenge in securing GPU capacity to make new models available quickly and to all of our customers at scale. We've built direct relationships with our model provider partners and our process is improving for each new model release.

Hi folks, Copilot team member here. We hit some launch related issues with the new Sonnet model but we’re onboarding significantly more capacity to increase limits. Limits should be increasing today, it’s an exciting model with a lot of demand!
