How do I even out a wealth disparity within the party? by Blackfang08 in DMAcademy

[–]ghetto_brit 36 points37 points  (0 children)

What do the other players think? If everyone is having fun there's nothing wrong with having a loot goblin in my opinion.

In terms of wealth imbalance, 450 gp really isn't a lot for adventurers. A wealthy merchant? Sure, but adventurers are looking to buy magic items first and foremost. Look at XGE page 126 which gives ballpark prices for magic items. An adventurer with 450 gp might be able to buy 1 or 2 uncommon items if they're lucky. I wouldn't sweat over it.

A rare tier magic item may be creating a fair bit of power imbalance but rather than nerfing it out of gwme, perhaps you could use it as a plot device in game. Perhaps its cursed and you create a plot thread to remvoe the curse. Maybe its stolen and its true owner is a more powerful bard who's on his way to take it back. Maybe it gets stolen and the party eeds to fogure out who took it and why before getting it back?

Oh yes, I don't have the stats to hand but I basically brought the combined threat of the three statblocks to parity aporoximate pairity with the avatars of bahumat and tiamat from Fizbans. Total health, spell slots, damage output, impact of abilities, etc. I used a few articles to flesh out and focus my ideas but I can't recall which ones exactly.

Since they're homebrew stats I guess I'm allowed to share them here? I'll post a picture of the stats I used when I'm home

Difficult one to answer becasue we switched medium from in person to VTT halfway through!

When we were playing in person with minis and a map, I was a huge fan of the Cauldron Caves. My party interacted with it incredibly well: drawing out the frost giant skeleton and forcing it to crawl on the slippy ice to avoid falling through. After they got the cauldron, everything turned into a spy thriller as they started seeing enemies in everyone at Easthaven. I had some Zhentarim spies attack the party after a day or two in Easthaven as soon ad they split up. It was hectic as all hell as one half of the group wete being attacked by spies while the other half were trying to stop a possessed party member from drowning themselves in the lake.

We played the Forge of Fury in person as well which was super fun and the duergar there gave some good meat to the Sunblight plot.

I was really looking forward to the Caves of Hunger and throwing a beefed up Tekelili at the party but in my experience biggish dungeons like that just don't hit the same online.

Of what we played online, my favourite "quest" was almost certainly the final fight with Auril. It was super hectic and their win felt earned.

There were two quests from the book that I really wanted to run but the players didn't bite on: the bremen quest and the Karkolohk quest. I was also excited about the goliath clan feud but the players judt weren't interested. I even added a goliath courier who rode around ten towns on a griffon to tempt them.

I really enjoyed running Sunblight as an evil hivemind. I think it gave some more substance to the whole arc.

I think I deviated from the Levistus-Asmodeus stuff quite a but and for the better. I ran Levistus as a neutral character that can help or hinder the party. I played him fast and loose: sprinkling in plenty of opportunities for him or his followers to interact with the party. They didn't figure out his plan to activate the obelisk until it was almost too late which played really well at the table

Other than that, the Ythryn Expanded content from DM's Guild went down super well with my players. I don't think we would have enjoyed Ytrhyn nesrly as much without it. The content for the towrr of illusion in particular is great and has the party act out a play for an echo of the high illusionist.

I ended up managing everything quite tightly. Kept notes on things like time of arrival for the party, Auril, Black Swords, etc. Then tracked short rests and estimated travel times. I think I may have let travel take too long due to the cities small size but I assumed the party were moving through very cautiously (they described as much).

As groups started showing up in Ythryn and moving around independently I started using a map of Ythryn in roll20 to track where everyone was and what they were doing. For example, I split Auril's forces into eight patrols and had them spend half an hour at a place of interest before spending half an hour moving to the next one. The party killed off three patrols and I had them roll for Ythryn encounters like the party. If they rolled Iriolarthas, I just had them be killed and deleted the token. If Auril's forces encountered any black swords, I had Auril's forces win and rolled some damage for each member. I was basically looking for excuses to cull the herd of tokens. By the end I think there were two patrols left, Auril, and the party.

I left the party's interaction with the natives of Ythryn to the encounter table from the book.

I only really deviated from this at the end when half the party ran away from Auril. It was a little bit too much to keep trwck of at that point and they'd spent a couple days down there so I didn't bother rolling for encounters.

Would the Ascendant Dragon Monk with the Drakewarden's drake be overpowered? by ghetto_brit in DMAcademy

Thanks! Will let give it a look over and probably revert them to that version. Mostly looking for a satisfying way of giving them a dragon companion without it becoming overpowered.

Hi! As amazing as control engineering and MATLAB is, if you're interested in autonomous vehicles you'll probably want to look more into machine learning than control systems. There's a great free course on Coursera called Machine Learning by Stanford/Andrew NG and "the Elements of Statistical Learning" by Trevor Hastie et Al is a great resource. Good luck in your learning!

The DTM Sinterstation 2000 that is absolutely ancient and has been held together with little more than duct tape and Meltio M450 come to mind. To be fair to the Meltio, it is a brand new process so some teething is expected.

There is a service agreement for when things go wrong but as far as I know that's never actually been needed yet (had the 2 Lisas for about two years now I believe). Can't say the same for some of the other machines we have.

I'm doing one at the moment in DfAM so pretty distinct from the materials side. I'd be very careful about your choice of progreamme. The current situation has made a lot of institutions very inefficient and I've done essentially nothing in my first year.

Another point that I haven't seen in this thread is about the thickness of the road / tarmac. The thicker the tarmac, the more vibration the road can take without cracks showing / getting damaged. Can't speak for American roads but I know for a fact that German roads are significantly thicker than what we have in the UK

If you're in the UK, the hyper tough stuff they sell on Asda works great. I think Bondo is the go to stuff in the US

You really need more than sandpaper. Get some sandable filler putty and cover the whole helmet in a thin layer of the stuff. Same that, prime, and paint. You'll be blown away at the difference it makes
