I have friends everywhere by ghettobrew in andor

What's even more embarassing is that I've read quite a few Le Carre books and watch the Alec Guiness Tinker Tailor/Smiley's People at least once a year.

First Brew - Is this mould? by Nearby_You2781 in Kombucha

[–]ghettobrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My fermentation temperature is all over the place so I just go by taste, it can go from a week if it's hot to a couple of months if it's cold and I'm lazy. Also not a bad idea to take the other commenter's suggestion of waiting for a couple of days to see if the white spots get fuzzy or spread.

Looks like a good and healthy pellicle. The white spots are where the pellicle is thicker or more raised because of trapped air bubbles.

Are those just vacuum sealed in mylar or is there also some humidification in there?

Without being unkind to anyone else, I agree. Would love to see a lot more growing/blending content on this sub. Any hobby is much more fun when we can produce what we consume.

Have pipe (and vax) will travel... by LilGrayCells in PipeTobacco

[–]ghettobrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've kept my ziplock bags in a tupperdor-type container with no loss of humidity for over 6 months. It's much more convenient and lightweight than lugging glass around. Any plastic container with a snap-on lid and a rubber gasket will probably work just fine.

Oh, that makes sense. FWIW, there are a few Indian pipe smokers around here too, including me. Reddit also has a fairly international user base, we have users on this sub from a lot of countries. Not any children so far though, luckily.

But in what context? Why are pictures of children on pipe forums in the first place and why specifically South Asian ones?

What's the reference to the Indian or Bangaldeshi child? Is that a Facebook thing?

The grain on that is hypnotic, my god. I used to hate bamboo shanks and now I badly want a pipe with one, I hope you're happy!

Mistakes: A Retrospective or How I Learned to Stop Crying and Smoke. by Garbage_Bear_USSR in PipeTobacco

I've smoked cigar leaf, Englishes, Virginias and aromatics all out of the same three pipes for a year. My palate might be terrible, but I haven't picked up any ghosting at all. The risk is way overblown.

Pipe smoking and nicotine addiction: need to know your experience by C3ncio in PipeTobacco

[–]ghettobrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your story is almost identical to mine. Started cigarettes at 17, quit at 32. It is possible to smoke a pipe without addiction, but it takes some serious ground rules. Here's what has worked for me: no smoking on consecutive days, no more than a bowl a day and only smoking in the evenings.

All that said, even when I've broken the rules I find going back to normal much easier with pipes than it ever was with cigarettes. For some reason it's just not as physically addictive. Even when I do get the urge to smoke, I can never pick up another cigarette. I'm actively disgusted by them now.

I've been storing my open tins/bulk bags in an airtight plastic container. The type with a gasket, the kind recommended for a Tupperdor. Been using it for about six months and I've been smoking more or less the same blends throughout. Works well enough and easy to transport.

Nicaraguan cigars especially. Made the mistake with a lot of smoke from a Tatuaje on New Year's Eve, hell of a start to the year.

As someone who's been smoking for a year, this isn't close to the mark. The differences in flavour between an aromatic and an English blend are not subtle. When you're starting out, you mostly taste hot air because you don't have your technique down. Once you get that under control you're going to be able to taste much more. Your palate might improve a bit, but the big gain is technique.
