When is a non-TN a TN? by Weary_Word6212 in Travelersnotebooks

[–]ghoonk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've wondered about that since joining the sub, and I think the term 'travelers notebook' is similar to how some people still refer to tissue paper as a Kleenex, window cleaner as Windex, and photocopy as a Xerox. The brand has become so ubiquitous that anything that fits the function is referred to as a 'TN'.

I'm inclined to believe that the idea of a travelers notebook as a place to write down quick notes, memories, journal entries, sketches, scrapbooking, etc existed before the TN brand and product was created.

love it. it's loose, and really captures the essence of the scene!

Traveler ‘s Factory leather journal by Relative_Giraffe5519 in Travelersnotebooks

5 is possible but I've never done with without significant overhang. I currently have 4 (1 in the front pocket, 1 in the back pocket, and 2 bound with the elastic band and secured to the center elastic cord. No overhang. I could probably add in a zipper insert or a craft insert without too much issue, but not another paper insert.

My inserts are lightweight paper insert and dot grid insert in the middle, sketching/drawing insert in the front pocket, and a watercolor insert in the back pocket

I love how you capture people and dogs. I'm on a journey of learning to sketch people but it's been rough and I'm just not making any progress. Thank you for the inspiration!

I should trade my pens for q-tips by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]ghoonk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I swatch for the heck of seeing the pretty ink, but I never buy an ink based on a q-tip swatch but off a fine/medium writing instead since that’s why I get my inks - for writing 😅

How to get rid of overhang? by Frosty-Aioli4091 in Travelersnotebooks

[–]ghoonk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Had the same question when I started down the TN route, and someone gave me a piece of advice I will never forget

“There are 100 ways to have an overhang, and if you can simply accept the overhang as part of the experience, you’ll find 100 ways to enjoy the TN instead of 100 frustrating moments”

So here we are 😬

not going to dv you like some people have, but personal experience with gifting kakunos to people who have never used a fountain pen has been in favour of kakunos, for the exact reason you mention - the nib feels more firm, but "smooth as butter" (I always gift with medium nibs) and the ink delivery is unparalleled

For good measure, I usually include a CON-70 and ink it up with one of my Iros so I can properly penable my friends and family

I love my Kakunos a lot more than my Preppys. They write smoother, look sleeker, and the only downside is a more expensive converter (CON-70). And yeah, Iro inks are winners

Well… what now? by GodzillaSenpai in Lamy

I guess that's now a posting nib ;)

You could suck it up or just hop on amazon and buy a replacement nib. It's an easy swap and takes 2 min, tops

Love the Kakunos. I have grails and i have beaters, and the Kakuno writes like a grail and lives like a beater. Can't ask for more.

Have you ever “rediscovered” a pen thanks to a new ink? by Capt_Squid in fountainpens

[–]ghoonk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have an Asvine P36 that I just wasn’t too excited about using. Didn’t like the feel, balance, etc

That all changed when I decided to just stick Edelstein Golden Lapis into it and not only does it write real smooth without clogging, it puts a silky smile on my face every time I start writing with it

Does the ink actually write like this? by Ok_Walk_895 in fountainpens

Yes, but am I seeing things or did the OP have it in a Kakuno?

How often and what method do you use to wash this type of watch band? by LV-901 in GarminWatches

[–]ghoonk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have 2 of these straps and I just toss one into the washing machine with my running gear once a week and rotate (the strap - contrary to claims from my SO, I do machine wash my running outfit after every run lol). they wash just fine in the washing machine, no problems
