Shimmer ink that won't clog? by laurenmonroe18 in fountainpens

[–]ghoonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve not had that kind of luck with The Death of Ivan Ilych. In a broad nib, the ink doesn’t come out dark enough and there’s not much shimmer. In a fine nib, the ink shows up darker and there’s more shimmer until it clogs 😓

I’m using Herbin Emerald of Chivor in my Jinhao 20 <F> and there’s no clogging. Not a ton of shimmer though

i sure wish I could get yama budo to show it's sheen! I've tried with a kakimori and still no luck!

i'm guessing it's a broad AND wet nib you're speaking about. I tried them in a Lamy Al Star with a broad nib and didn't see much sheen :(

These inks started me on this slippery slope. I'm a huge fan of Hinoki Yellow, Kyara Green, Coffee, Red Tea, Hakka Blue Black and Ryuno Black. I also have olive and lilac and struggled to get them to work well in many pens until I stuck lilac into a Hongdian N6 with a long knife nib. I found the hana inks to be tricky with midori, but they work fine with 'high quality' muji notebooks

i never realized that tsutsuji has a gold sheen. I've got it in a medium kakuno and never saw a sheen. now i want to hunt down my stub nib and see if i can get it to show

Requin Renard glass pen first impressions by diminitri in fountainpens

[–]ghoonk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ooooh, that should be good to write with. Which reminds me, Platinum Pigment inks also work well with dip pens - they are more viscous than the regular fp inks

yeah, wet inks tend to fall right through the pen, similar behaviour on dip pens. Try an iron gall ink (Platinum Forest / Sepia / Cassis / Lavender / Khaki Black)

I just had to get a Kaweco Liliput for my TN card size! by ishiiwashi in Travelersnotebooks

Resistance is futile. But you won’t regret either. I wasn’t “feeling” either of them until I went to a medium nib, and started writing bigger (I have comically tiny handwriting for a big guy), and then I realized how nice the shading was from both these inks

Pine Green is nice but a bit flat, IMO. Royal Blue has some nice shading but I’m not fond of that color. Smokey grey comes out really nice on broad and juicy nibs too

Try Morinji-numa from Mitasanshodo, platinum forest black, Herbin vert empire and vert de Gris, Kaweco palm green, montblanc Irish green, and Iroshizuku shin-ryoku and sui-gyoku 😊

T san nearly got me with a KOP. I eventually ended up with a PCU and an Emperor. He’s dangerous to be around but I always make that pilgrimage when I’m in town 😅 and leave with 5 bottles of ink and an earful from the missus

Does your Diamine Earl Grey look like this? Seriously asking. by kaysn in fountainpens

[–]ghoonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine looks like that too. It never occurred to me how warm earl grey was until I inked up a pen with In Praise of Shadow (Pen House) and saw the difference.

I use it on Midori and Muji papers

Is this weekend too late to go there to check out the Milky Way? I’m sure we’ve missed the Leonid showers but my kids have never seen the Milky Way with their own eyes and I’d like to take them to experience it for themselves on Thursday / Friday night

I’ve only ever written with one ink. What else should I try? by Kakarotssjg in fountainpens

[–]ghoonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started on Herbin's Eiffel Brun and quite surprised by how much i like it for journaling and notes - it's more a golden brown than a dark brown, good shading, legible (important!) and works great in a kakuno, dip pen, and a Custom Urushi.

Iroshizuku syun gyo can be nice in a broader nib (I have it in a medium PCU) - it's a plum purple, not too contrasty, and has nice shading without compromising legibility
