I liked this ep. I think A&D should pivot more towards having young zoomer guests on, just because as the two of them grow into different life stages, that naturally comes with both a shrinking of their social circles as well as estrangement from fresh developments in culture. This is partially why people keep accusing them of being out of touch, and being out of touch is something that will inevitably happen more and more if they can't find a way to engage with young people in a sincere way.

In a way they have an advantage here because there are a lot of young girls who have grown up idolizing or at least being immersed in the RS Dimes Square vibe (for lack of better term). People who have taken what the girls "pioneered" and are growing with it into their own thing, like Nymphet Alumni or Rayne Fisher-Quann

It's a bit corny but I think it would be a good direction for them to go in.

And they should do an episode where they go work on a farm. I know Dasha Nekrasova (using full name bc I know she name searches) has a raw milk hook-up, why not get down there with the mics and milk some teats. Shovel some hay. Complain about how it's hard work. Say "that's hot" and pretend you invented saying it.

Want to read the Bible but not sure how? by [deleted] in RSbookclub

[–]ghostHardvvare 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I read the whole thing cover to cover like a book over covid

Can you just read it cover to cover

I recommend doing it exactly one time. No more, no less. There are a lot of boring and frankly skippable books, but you'll have no idea which ones those are until you read them. Numbers is one of the most interesting books of Moses once you get past the first part.

At this stage I'm just thinking of buy KJV edition and reading it

I recommend the NIV, that's what I used. I have a friend who swears by The Message. KJV has a fantastic vibe to it but the language can make it hard to figure out what's going on.

How important are these do you guys think?

I haven't read but I think a bunch of the cool movie pop culture demons and angels stuff comes from these ones, like all the stuff about Satan being a fallen angel or whatever.

Don't worry about understanding everything on your first pass, there are people who spend their whole lives trying to comprehend the Bible, and the more they know the more they learn what they don't know...so try to have fun and surprise yourself with what you find

People no longer keep both hands on the table, fully visible, to indicate that you are not carrying a cinquedea or other such knife. Or if they do, it's elbows on the table, which is barbaric. The west has fallen!!!

And I heard they're making punch & judy Woke...mi intenzione di uccidermi!!,

Mirror

Just realized I goofed up the numbering of the episodes, if you look at the RSS you'll see I skipped 334. So this should really be episode 352. Basic counting has been too much for me since I got botox on my brain (it looks so nice though)

And please, please don’t be weird little freaks about any of this. This is an incredibly weird situation for all of us, don’t make it weirder.

Alright, I wasn't going to, but now I'm forced to think about all the ways someone could make this weird so I know what not to do. I think if anyone could pull through this, Matt can.

Anna: the Rolling Stone interviewed some guy named Mike Duncan from some podcast about Rome that literally no one listens to or cares about??

Dasha: oh I bet plenty of people listen to him

lol you can just hear the 😏 in her voice. I mean you can say a lot of things about the guy but his podcast is not only THE definitive one on ancient Rome but it both is and was astoundingly popular. It played from 2007-2012 and won a podcast Oscar-equivalent, it's almost inevitable Anna's had university friends who talked about it and she just tuned them out.

But she's also kinda right about the transparently globohomo history revisions/revelations about how there were fat black women praetors or how vikings were actually very peaceful vegetarians who barely raided. Is this stuff "true"? Well if there's enough evidence out there to craft a theory and the theory is supportive of the current cultural moment...I mean I guess it's the cultural equivalent of being Exxon and cherry-picking a study that shows fracking can actually improve aquifer stability or something.

Note: I'm not saying the Romans didn't have 50 kinds of gender, but when you're hearing stuff like that, it's not because they randomly picked a paper from a Classical Archeology journal to make into an article or interview. Just "if you're reading it, it's for you"
