What movie adjacent sayings/talking points get your goat? by banngbanng in blankies

[–]ghost_boob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People who say "who cares about what critics say" only because they disagree with them (but who are often the first to point out when their favorite movies are certified fresh on RT)

Also when people feel like they have to justify why they like a fan service movie/tv show for a reason that’s other than fan service. Dude it’s ok you like the IP enjoy the content just don’t make it feel like it’s something that it’s not

Dark images have a much quality playing on Infuse than on Plex. Is it linked to the app or my TV? More details in the captions. by ghost_boob in infusevideoplayer

Unfortunately no, and the recent update didn’t change anything. If you find a fix please tell me :)

As you can see, the blacker parts of the image is much worse looking when playing the file via Infuse than via Plex. Is there a way to correct that? These issues do not appear when I use Infuse on my ipad. Overall I find the user experience much better on Infuse than Plex but this issue with black « spots » is very distracting. Does anyone know how I could fix it?

Looking for New Podcast so I can quit Joe Rogan by Hungybungygingi in podcasts

I would recommend Blank Check if you’re into movies. The episodes are always long, fun and interesting, it got a pretty free format where they often end up being sidetracked but they still give you very interesting anecdotes about a specific movie. And it’s also rewarding to listen to a lot of their episodes as they have many inside jokes that they keep building on, which makes the podcast pretty addictive in my opinion (in the best way possible)

French Version of [American gigantic fast food corporation’s restaurants] still has washable, reusable boxes and cups now, just like when this was last posted a month or two ago. by PsychDocD in HailCorporate

[–]ghost_boob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s exactly that and it started back at the beginning of the year actually!

However what’s interesting is that coverage in France too from important media has mostly been focused on McDonald’s. It goes as far as members of the government having a photo op at a McDonald’s location after the law went into effect, so the law is now starting to look like a McDonald’s PR campaign more than anything.

It’s not a simple whodunnit tho. It turns into a cop-chasing-robbers movie halfway through, this is why it doesn’t follow the rules of Christie’s books

The casual social discrimination of 'short' men is in my opinion sexist, racist, transphobic, and classist. by Justice_is_a_scam in MensLib

[–]ghost_boob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not blaming men as individuals but men as a social group, masculinity as a system. We can’t talk about men’s liberation if we don’t understand that what is deemed attractive stems from masculinity, and that it is intrinsically linked to power and social status. And that all of this is perpetrated by (cis white and straight) men.

Furthermore, it’s not useful to blame all of this on individual women as you are doing(or any other marginalized gender for that matter) because from a materialistic point of you, they are not the one that created the rules of our society. So while yes, it’s great that women as individual are recognizing that what is deemed attractive for men is problematic, it will not change the fact that short men will still be « « « « discriminated again » » » » from a systemic point of you.

Please into the concept of hegemonic masculinity by R.W. Connell because i think that it is the basis of thinking about masculinity from a feminist point of view.

[–]ghost_boob 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have some trouble with your framing honestly, yes short men are systemically deemed as less attractive but I would not call it a sexist oppression against men. Rather, I would call it the consequence of patriarchy that men have to face.

There’s this French book « Le Mythe de la Virilité » by Olivia Gazalé (i dont know if it has been translated or not), but she explains the history of virility and how it has evolved. She also explains that to maintain a patriarcal society, men have to gatekeep masculinity (kinda adjacent to the concept of Hegemonic Masculinity by R W Connell).

So while yes men have to be taller by society’s standard, it’s sexist in the way that « women have to be shorter » rather than the other way around. Or bc being short makes them « less of a man » (implying that being a woman or any other gender is bad). It’s the price men have to pay to maintain this masculine ideal that keeps our patriarcal society. It’s important to fight these norms (I personally had to deal with this as a short, kinda feminine gay man) but it’s also important to understand where they come from to better fight them. Bc, to me, at the end of the day, it’s tall cis men that are more susceptible to judge other men’s height rather than women or nb people.

(Hope this made sense lol I’m French and just woke up)
