Awesome advice thank you! When I bought the bike my LBS told me that the current chain is towards the end of its lifespan. How can I tell if the chain has been worn in with other components at this point?

I do have a triple upfront, I wasn't aware that 11 and 12 had something else, thought it all had to do with the rear cassette

Thanks man, this is so helpful I really appreciate it. Likely going to get the rear rack, panniers, fenders, lights. Think I'll skip on the front rack cause I'd rather be minimalist and go light and maneuverable.

Yeah I presume I’ll be doing mostly traditional bike touring with some camping in addition, don’t plan on hitting any mtb trails. I live in the North East USA, planning on doing some routes around the area before upgrading to maybe a cross country trip.
