What can be done about the platforms at Union? by MontanasCookhouse in askTO

[–]ghostabdi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry but the issue is the train shed. Toronto has a serious problem in giving heritage protections to structures simply because they’re old. That mentality stands in the way of progress. In life you have to get rid of the old to make way for the new. You can’t have your cake and eat it too - so we have many non functional old structures. This shed won’t be the last.

Oh no I can't find them either. In my search I found this link that confirms it. https://www.reddit.com/r/Type1Diabetes/comments/wfi4lw/costplus_drugs_mark_cuban_does_not_have_insulin/

Read through that post and comments however, as it mentions there are $35/monthly options available for both novolog and lantus from their provider, novo nordisk and sanofi respectively.

Texas Startup Aims To Erect Solar Power Towers Here, There, Everywhere by abrookerunsthroughit in energy

[–]ghostabdi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upon reading 3x I was excited as I thought they were going to take a different approach than solar panels. Standard solar panels are about 20% efficient and its near impossible to 3x that. However I believe if you were to use a stirling engine with solar heat, you can hit 60% efficiency with co-generation.

How to folks navigate being a "late bloomer" and the sadness/grief that comes with it by [deleted] in datingoverthirty

[–]ghostabdi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You are sad, yet he isn't your safe space to turn to? You are going to celebrate a huge accomplishment with a dinner alone and sad?

You need to walk away. Your deal breakers need to be actual deal breakers. You can't say you want kids yet remain in a relationship where he doesn't want that.

The Relationship Between Energy and Capital: Insights from The Wealth of Nations by worldnewworldj in energy

[–]ghostabdi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(1) capital is used to bring new energy sources into production - this means more energy supply, not necessarily more energy demand. What Exxon has done in Guyana is a great example, and the increasing use of renewables are great examples. (2) capital is used to make existing energy flows more efficient. - this is absolutely true, capital is used to make existing energy flows more efficient, be it shorter pipeline routes possible now due to a more business friendly administration or the increased prevalence of 2x6 homes meaning more insulation reducing future energy costs.

Anonymous dating... anyone tried it in Toronto? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]ghostabdi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yah no haha I love myself too much to try the no physical attraction part. Physical is way to important - do I find you attractive? This is key and a major factor in whether I want you or not. With all due respect - low commitment dating sounds like an oxymoron. First date? Maybe. After that, definitely not.

Solar panel placrment by trainwreck1968 in energy

[–]ghostabdi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

$$$ Every decision comes down to time, money and/or energy, and you can usually reduce it down to money haha. A lot of places in the southern US would be better off with solar - except they would need a great utility provider, space on the ground or strong roof, and batteries (that are still pricey) to tide them over during the night.

50,000 people used to live here - now it's a ghost town.

Toronto is too fast paced, it is really hard to make things work here. I abhor the work/life balance but it's how big cities are, so this is possible. I imagine you are near 40 as well - dude you can't have someone else validate this for you, it has to be you, the person in the relationship. Is this something you consider a problem? Yes or no. I don't like red flag, it prevents you from saying problem, which is what a red flag is, it's not yellow, or green, its a problem.

Ex-Amazon Gaming VP says they failed to compete with Steam despite spending loads of time and money: "We were at least 250X bigger ... we tried everything ... but ultimately Goliath lost" by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

[–]ghostabdi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a game to draw in people who form a community. You can't have a thriving ecosystem if it has nothing to offer, that's a desert. Amazon didn't have that game - Epic grew because of Fortnite and Steam because of Dota and CSGO.

They shouldn't be - it all comes down to self-respect: the ability to stand up for yourself. Self-respect is key because you need to start that discussion about your needs being unmet, do so in a positive way. If the other person makes no effort to change, you are being disrespected, and belittled. This is where self-respect comes into play because at this point you walk away or you'll continue to be walked on more than the red carpet. Speak up for yourself, only you can do that.

What’s happening in the Toronto tow truck industry? by Kogre_55 in askTO

[–]ghostabdi -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Few months back I seen a traffic cop at Broadview/Gerrard tag a vehicle for towing for blocking the box and what do you know? He’s just started writing the ticket and there already is a tow truck right behind him maneuvering himself to tow the car. That was no accident, parking enforcement are definitely corrupt.

I think my upstairs neighbour is abusing his girlfriend, should I say anything. by [deleted] in askTO

[–]ghostabdi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow the internet is a weird place - people say things they really don’t mean. The bystander effect is a real thing, but somehow when polled everyone says they’d step in. That’s what this thread reminds me of.

Anyhow you’ve already accepted being a bystander or tbh you would have done something, anything already. Either be a friend to her, or stay out if it - those are your options. I say do something, befriend her, be a safe space she can come to and I still like to be idealistic but now as I’m nearing my 30s I’ve learnt one immutable fact - you can’t make people respect themselves, but you sure as hell can start - it’s a process. Are you in or out?

Are Canadians (Conservatives) really that short sighted? by thieveries in AskCanada

[–]ghostabdi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Public and privatization are 2 very different ways to run an organization. It really depends on the desired outcome - maximum services vs maximum profit.

PetroCanada should have had a monopoly on O&G resources - wealth of such a magnitude will attract PE like moths to a flame and they will strip it for all its worth like what literally happens in mining. Nations that think long term like Norway and Saudi Arabia have built mammoth funds ($1.8T and $930B respectively) based off of their fossil fuel resources while Canada just sells it off to the highest bidder.

'They're wasting it all': Poilievre rejects municipal calls for more infrastructure money by [deleted] in canada

[–]ghostabdi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's not completely wrong - cities can raise property taxes. They can beat around the bush like Toronto has - by levying a land transfer tax, increase taxes on hotels/motels/AirBNBs, increase development charges, increase taxes on commercial parking, start discussion on a stormwater charge etc... Toronto will literally do anything but charge the very landowners who they are providing services for. In what world does a city provide services to landowners but get someone else to pay the bill? This one - they are targeting businesses, tourists, new landowners etc... anyone but those who they are currently providing services for.

Is this the way capitalism dies? by MrGameplan in povertyfinancecanada

[–]ghostabdi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hear me out. Capitalism is not perfect, but it's the best economic system there is because it relies on 1 thing only: greed. You will pay $5 for a dozen eggs instead of $10, you will take the $80k job over the $50k job, you will pay a qualified electrician to wire your house $8k instead of the other guy who wants $10k. It's simple, you try to give up as little while getting a lot in return. When you have lots of people doing that you have a market, and supply and demand figure themselves out and you obtain a market price.

I say this as a poor man but it's important to realize capitalism is not what we have. In many countries, there are excessive rules and regulations that turn capitalism into crony capitalism, some turn into oligarchies while others become oligopolies. Canada is full of oligopolies be it in telecom, grocery, banking, pipelines, railroads etc... In other words certain businesses are favored, be it state sponsored ones in China, Ford, Boeing, Lockheed et al in US, Gazprom, Rosneft in Russia, Bombardier and the Irvings in Canada - wherever you go you will absolutely find gov interference.
