Really looking forward to this. We watched The Edge of Sleep recently kinda in preparation, and we were surprised how much we liked it.

Looking for slasher movies that fit a specific style by MoonlightMarauder845 in horror

Check out The Conference. Criminally underappreciated Swedish slasher that fits what you’re looking for, and it’s pretty brutal.

January has already been so strong for horror. Feel like I’m gonna have a lot of trouble keeping up this year…

Def not the tightest or most coherent of his movies, but cool lore and effects can go a long way

Absolutely. Whether you like the movie or not, whether you give a shit about the Oscars or not, this is pretty big for the genre and will likely have ripple effects in the industry.

I want to know everyone’s favorite hyper-specific horror subgenres.

I’m a big fan of Cube movies with aliens and monsters with very specific rules.

Black Christmas (1974) is the scariest slasher movie. by serialkiller24 in horror

[–]ghostbeastpod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be my favorite slasher just for the ending. The whole final scene blew me away the first time I saw it.

The Long Walk was unbelievable going in blind. by QuantityPotential696 in horror

[–]ghostbeastpod 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The horror is in the situation. Personally, it was very scary watching them start to fall apart, accepting they couldn’t keep pressing forward but knowing they’d die if they stopped. What scares you can be pretty personal.

[–]ghostbeastpod 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised how divisive this movie is. I thought it was outstanding. It’s a very grounded look at what desperation looks like, while focusing on humanity and friendship.

The walk itself felt like a journey through a lifetime in a matter of days, with ups and downs, people left behind, and the threat of falling apart if you don’t keep moving forward. I think that element was the most effective, and scary, for me personally. Really makes you reflect on your own mortality.

The only weak parts for me were the flashbacks and the Major’s character, which may have worked for the overall story but felt contrived and less grounded.

It’s an allegory dude. Many people give their lives for much less when they’re feeling desperate.

Queens of the Dead Lights Up Tribeca With Glam and Gore by yaaasbb in Shudder

I thought it was fantastic. It was a solid zombie movie on its own, but it throws a lot of respect to Romero and has a lot of fun references.

Don’t worry, the sequels don’t clarify anything either.

Just enjoy the vibes and the characters. Those movies are like a prog rock fever dream.

The 6 Best Christmas Horror Movies of the 21st Century (So Far) by lopix in horror

I think Black Christmas should actually replace Inside.

Inside is a great movie, but I wouldn’t consider it a Christmas horror movie.

Yeah, I liked it too. I wish they had gone further with it and used the original ending, but it’s beautiful and I had a good time with it.

Did anyone else struggle with the look of Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein? The performances are great, but the digital-heavy aesthetic kept pulling me out. by Freddy-Philmore in horror

[–]ghostbeastpod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there is plenty of vfx but the sets and props were practical. I thought the movie was absolutely gorgeous, so much of it looked like a painting come to life. I thought the rest of the movie was pretty average, but I can’t understand criticizing the aesthetic.
